Air India did not respond to a request for comment. Reuters reported last month Air India was closing in on a deal for about 500 jets. The aim is to corner 30% of the domestic air travel market over the next five years thus narrowing the gap with market leader IndiGo. Tata's four airlines, including two budget carriers, Air India and Vistara its joint venture with Singapore Airlines (SIAL.SI), have a combined market share of 24%. Analysts have said Air India has the ability to claw back some passengers from rival Gulf carriers but not before it matches their quality of fleet and service.
The company reiterated it expects to generate $3 billion to $5 billion in free cash flow in 2023. Boeing generated $3.1 billion in free cash flow in the final quarter of 2022. Boeing reported $2.3 billion for all of 2022. Boeing reported fourth-quarter revenue of $20 billion, up from $14.79 billion in the same quarter in 2022, and a loss per share of $1.75. Earlier this month, Boeing reported a sharp jump in airplane orders and deliveries in 2022.

REUTERS/Peter Cziborra/File PhotoJan 24 (Reuters) - Europe's chief aviation regulator pointed on Tuesday to a narrowing gap in talks with Boeing (BA.N) over cockpit design requirements for the future 777X airliner. "We are hopefully converging," Patrick Ky, executive director of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) told Reuters, when asked about the progress of ongoing discussions on the 777X. Ky's remarks come shortly after industry sources said EASA held talks earlier this month with Boeing and the FAA to review certification expectations for the delayed jet. U.S. executives argue the 777 jet, which is being upgraded to create the 400-seat 777X, is one of the industry's safest.

Boeing has seen 737 MAX customer demand recover briskly after two crashes and the COVID-19 pandemic battered the airline industry. However, analysts warn Boeing still faces major risk to increasing aircraft production, as supply chain recovery and additional regulatory requirements could delay schedules. Investors will also be looking for Boeing to shed light on why it is taking so long to deliver MAX planes sitting in storage. Boeing aims to gradually grow production of the 787 to five a month, but slowed production after a December parts delay, Reuters previously reported.

REUTERS/Stephane MaheDELHI/PARIS, Jan 20 (Reuters) - European planemaker Airbus (AIR.PA) is set to win an order for 235 single-aisle planes as part of a historic purchase of some 495 jets due to be announced by a resurgent Air India on Jan. 27, industry sources told Reuters. Air India and Boeing did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Reuters reported last month that Air India was close to placing orders for around 500 jets from both Airbus and Boeing after months of intense talks on the core plane order. Air India, with its maharajah mascot, was once known for its lavishly decorated planes and stellar service but its reputation declined in the mid-2000s as financial troubles mounted.
Lessor says Air India to order around 500 jets

DUBLIN, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Air India is set to order around 500 planes as an airline industry recovery takes hold following the pandemic, one of the world's leading aircraft lessors said on Monday. The comments are the first public indication of the scale of the planned order after Reuters reported in December that Air India was close to ordering as many as 500 jets as it carves out a renaissance under the Tata Group conglomerate. Air India did not immediately respond to a request for comment. China last year placed a block order for Airbus jets. "We do expect a number of airlines will place large orders and again most of these orders will be for replacement," Udvar-Hazy said.
The Airbus A380, the white elephant of the skies, could be getting a new lease on life. Among its merits: Unlike the Boeing 777X, it already exists. One of the best-performing stocks in London in 2022, having more than doubled, is a tiny company that owned a single asset: one of the Airbus A380s in the Emirates Airline fleet. Most of the gains came in July, when the Dubai-based carrier agreed to buy the plane for about £25 million, equivalent to about $30 million, once its lease expired. The deal, which closed the week before Christmas, massively improved the expected liquidation value of the investment company, called Doric Nimrod Air One (ticker: DNA).
WASHINGTON, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) said on Thursday it had resumed flight testing of its 777X jets after an inspection in October found an engine issue. The 777X, also known as the 777-9, is a larger version of the 777 wide-body jet and has been in development since 2013. Boeing in April said it was halting production of the 777X through 2023 and confirmed a delay in handing over the first 777X jet to 2025 from the previous target of late 2023, but said it remained confident in the program. Congress approved a sweeping certification reform bill in late 2020 after two fatal Boeing 737 MAX crashes that had added new requirements to getting aircraft approved. Boeing Chief Executive Dave Calhoun said in April that it is "definitely a more rigorous process that we're all going through" to get airplanes certified.
WASHINGTON, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) said on Thursday it has resumed flight testing of its 777X after an issue with a GE9X engine prompted a halt following an inspection. "We’re supporting GE Aerospace as they continue to assess a recent GE9X engine issue," Boeing said. "We have resumed airplane testing following our comprehensive safety process and appropriate mitigations while our supplier and technical teams continue their work." GE (GE.N) said last month it was reviewing a technical issue that occurred during GE9X post-certification engineering testing of the plane that is formally as the 777-9. REUTERS/Peter CziborraPARIS, Dec 21 (Reuters) - Airbus (AIR.PA) plans to deepen its industrial presence in India, Chief Executive Guillaume Faury said on Wednesday after meeting the country's prime minister. Faury's comments on industrial presence come as India is increasingly involved in the civil supply chain. Airbus declined to comment and Tata Group was not immediately available to comment. In October, Tata Group and Airbus said they would make the C-295 military transport aircraft in India.
LONDON/NEW DELHI, Dec 16 (Reuters) - Air India is close to a deal to order more than 200 Boeing (BA.N) jets including 190 narrowbody 737 MAX and 30 widebody 787s - part of an historic fleet shake-up roughly split with Boeing's European rival Airbus, industry sources said on Friday. The deal is also expected to include an unspecified number of Boeing 777X long-range jets, they added. Airbus (AIR.PA) is separately moving towards a deal with Air India including at least 200 of its A320-family narrowbody jets as well as dozens of larger A350s, industry sources said. Industry sources said Airbus is expected to win a slightly larger share of the huge fleet replacement and expansion. Bloomberg reported on Friday that Boeing was closing in on an order for as many as 200 of its 737 MAX jets.
New York CNN —United Airlines placed a massive order for at least 200 Boeing planes on Tuesday, split between two models dogged by recent problems: the 737 Max and the 787 Dreamliner. United generally picks Boeing over AirbusThe order, while an important lift for Boeing, isn’t a total surprise. While United has some orders with Airbus (EADSF), nearly 80% of its existing fleet is composed of Boeing jets. The 100 737 Max jets United is buying includes 44 planes for which it already had an option to purchase, and 56 new orders. In June 2021, it announced the purchase of 200 of the 737 Max jets, along with 70 competing planes from Airbus, in the largest aircraft order that United has ever placed.
Nov 25 (Reuters) - Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd (0293.HK) is in talks with aircraft manufacturers about orders for medium-haul aircraft and dedicated freighters, a senior executive said on Friday. Lam said the focus would be on acquiring more medium-haul jets to operate in the Asia-Pacific region as well as dedicated freighters, though he did not provide the numbers or types being considered. The long-serving executive, who will take over as chief executive on Jan. 1, had raised the prospect of jet orders in an interview with Bloomberg last month. Lam told analysts that the passenger outlook was improving but that cargo demand and prices had weakened compared to an "exceptional" performance in 2021. The latest salvo concerns some of the world's prime real estate - the cabin of a big jet where comfort meets cost. Airbus said in a blog it was introducing a New Production Standard (NPS) to make A350s lighter and more flexible. Changes include scraping four inches off interior walls and making the cabin longer by moving a bulkhead and squeezing the cockpit. Currently most A350 economy cabins have nine 18-inch wide seats per row. Airlines opting to add an extra seat per row to fly 10 abreast will have 17-inch wide seats.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury speaks during a visit of German Economy and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck at Airbus research facilities in Hamburg, Germany, January 18, 2022. A stretched version of the lightweight Canadian-designed airplane makes a lot of sense, "but we don't want to be right too early", Chief Executive Guillaume Faury told investors. Airbus has seized a commanding lead in the main part of the single-aisle market, most recently through the larger A321neo which Asam said would have an increasing proportion of sales. However, the industry's biggest single-aisle variant, the delayed A321XLR, is not emerging as quickly as Airbus hoped. Improvements in the range of the largest single-aisle jets like the A321neo have eaten into the lower end of the market traditionally reserved for bigger wide-body jets, where Boeing has for decades widely been seen as the market leader.
