Washington CNN —Democratic Rep. Dean Phillips of Minnesota is leaving his position in House Democratic leadership over his party’s support of President Joe Biden’s 2024 reelection bid. “My convictions relative to the 2024 presidential race are incongruent with the majority of my caucus, and I felt it appropriate to step aside from elected leadership,” Phillips said in a statement Sunday. Onward!”A moderate Democrat, Phillips has said for months he does not think Biden should run for reelection, and CNN previously reported he’s eyed his own White House bid. I respect them taking a hard look at it,” he said during an April press conference when pressed on concerns about his age. “I take a hard look at it as well – I took a hard look at it before I decided to run, and I feel good, I feel excited about the prospects.”

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Ben Phillips’ childhood memories include basketball games with friends, and neighbors gathering in the summer shade at their St. Louis housing complex. Phillips and Deanes, 75, are co-founders of PHACTS, which stands for Pruitt-Igoe Historical Accounting, Compensation, and Truth Seeking. Their attorney, Elkin Kistner, said it would be “appropriate and necessary” for Hawley's proposal to be widened to include former Pruitt-Igoe residents. And St. Louis wasn't alone in being subjected to secretive Cold War-era testing. The area of the testing in St. Louis was described in Army documents as “a densely populated slum district.” About three-quarters of the residents were Black.

New York CNN —A New Jersey court ordered Starbucks to pay an additional $2.7 million to a former employee who successfully sued the company for wrongful termination, claiming she was fired for being White. In June, a jury had ruled in favor of Shannon Philips, who worked at Starbucks as regional director over the Philadelphia area. In an order Wednesday, Judge Joel Slomsky said Starbucks has to make the additional payment for damages. Starbucks did not have a comment about the order Wednesday, but said in June that it was disappointed in the decision. In that suit, Phillips said that when Starbucks fired her following the arrest, it was discriminating against her because of her race.

The Liontrust GF High Yield Bond fund has become notable thanks to one thing: A 10% dividend yield. "It's got a very high-quality credit rating, I would argue," said Donald Phillips, one of the portfolio managers behind the fund. fund manager, Liontrust GF High Yield Bond fund Donald Phillips It also holds debt considered relatively riskier by credit rating agencies but one that Phillips believes has been mispriced. The value of a credit default swap increases when the risk of default rises. He highlighted that their fund yields higher returns and charges lower fees than many similar index ETFs.

CNN —The weekend’s events in Russia seem an almost surreal interruption to the long slog of conflict unfolding in neighboring Ukraine. Yevgeny Prigozhin’s challenge to the Russian state erupted and receded in the space of 24 hours, but the consequences of his short-lived mutiny may reverberate for much longer. Prigozhin’s Wagner forces, for all his boasting, were never going to be a match for the Russian security forces. And yet, the saga was humiliating to the Russian military and at least embarrassing to the Kremlin. One Ukrainian military officer was provocatively shown on social media eating popcorn as he watched events in Russia unfold.

Phillips, who worked for Starbucks for about 13 years and managed a region of stores in the area, was fired after the the arrest of two Black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks in April 2018. The New Jersey jury returned a verdict of $25.6 million, including $25 million for punitive damages and $600,000 in compensatory damages, according to Console Mattiacci Law, which represents Phillips. The jury ruled unanimously after a six day trial, the lawyers said, noting that Phillips will also be seeking back and front pay. Starbucks said it is disappointed in the decision and is evaluating its next steps, spokesperson Jaci Anderson told CNN. A jury found in favor of a former regional director who accused the company of racial discrimination.

Starbucks was ordered to pay $25.6 million in damages to a former employee this week. Shannon Phillips claimed she was fired from her role as a regional director because she was white. After a 2018 viral video, Phillips pushed back on disciplining a white manager who wasn't involved, she said. The director — who disagreed with Starbucks' handling of the issue that triggered a nationwide discussion on race — had claimed in a lawsuit that she was fired because she was white. She disputed that the white district manager was involved, said she had no performance-based reason to suspend him, and said the store in question was overseen by a Black district manager who was not facing discipline, she said in the suit.

London CNN —Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega says it has been the victim of “organized criminal activity,” alleging three of its former staff members admitted working with intermediaries to sell a fake Speedmaster watch for some $3.4 million dollars. The watch was bought by Omega itself for 3.115 million Swiss francs—25 times the auctioneer’s upper estimated price—at a Phillips auction in in Geneva in November 2021. “OMEGA and Phillips were the joint victims of organized criminal activity involving the selling of this specific watch by auction,” the statement added. “This timepiece is currently a key piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation that must also bring to light the seller of the watch. “The watch was bought by OMEGA for the OMEGA Museum and we understand from OMEGA that it has discovered that the watch is composed of unrelated parts from various sources, and that OMEGA employees may have been involved in assembling the watch.
