Shanghai — It’s less furry than a traditional companion, but a six-legged Chinese robot “guide dog” could one day help vision impaired people live with more independence, according to its research development team in Shanghai. The robot dog, which is currently being field-tested, is able to navigate its physical environment via cameras and sensors, including recognizing traffic light signals, which traditional guide dogs are unable to do. “If this robot guide dog comes onto the market and I could use it, at least it could solve some of my problems in traveling alone,” Li said. In China, there are just over 400 guide dogs for almost 20 million blind people, Gao said. “I think this could be a very large market, because there might be tens of millions of people in the world who need guide dogs.”

Especially the last bit: Corporate America is obsessed with ensuring their employees are staying productive when they’re working remotely, away from the gimlet eyes of management. It’s easy to imagine the types of pretend productivity gadgets these employees might have used: “mouse jigglers,” gizmos with a questionable name that make random, small motions of a mouse or touchpad. And Wells Fargo’s crackdown on these gadgets is just the latest attempt by big business to rein in perceived slacking by remote employees. That perceptual gap reflects a vast and growing mutual distrust between workers and employers in America. They’re how workers are battling back against boardroom Big Brother, in a technological arms race that’s only getting wilder as devices get more sophisticated.

CNN —On Sunday, England will face Serbia in its first game of the Euro 2024 championship, hosted by Germany. Since then, the FA, the European football association UEFA and FIFA , the sport’s international governing body, have visibly upped their anti-racism game. One might conclude, for instance, that Monday’s court decision in Spain meting out prison sentences to three Valencia fans for hurling racial insults, is evidence of European soccer’s new, tougher line against racism. Saka knows UEFA observers will be on duty at every Euro 2024 match and will be on the lookout for racist incidents. I see it as an attempt by professionals who should know better to make a Black player carry the can for a disappointing performance by the whole team.

The fury of European farmers is more than just a major issue in elections across the continent this week — it’s also one of the primary subjects of disinformation timed to the vote. In Italy, inaccurate claims circulated on social media that the European Union was banning animal breeding; a rumor making the rounds in Spain claimed that the government was causing droughts by demolishing dams. Those claims are part of an abundance of deceptive content aimed at voters electing a new European Parliament, spread by far-right politicians, information operatives based outside Europe and others, according to disinformation researchers. It is coming in the form of recycled videos and photos presented as current, misinterpretations of policy proposals and inflammatory political ads, addressing topics like agriculture, climate change and migration. Foreign propaganda, even content explicitly prohibited by the European Union, continues to seep into the information ecosystem.
