Dacus and her husband have to stick to a tight budget: their household only receives $23 a month from SNAP. But some struggling families, like Dacus', don't receive enough help, or their income is considered too high to receive any help at all. But $23 a month in food benefits isn't even close to affording what they need to eat. SNAP benefits don't always align with household needsAmerica's SNAP program provides low-income households with money to grocery shop, and the qualifying criteria is based on the federal poverty line. Yet, many households like Dacus' don't receive the maximum because their income isn't low enough.

AI and data centers are driving up electricity usage in the US after a decade of flat demand. As a result, the utilities sector is performing strongly, especially independent power producers. IPP stocks like NRG, CEG, and VST will benefit the most from AI, says one portfolio manager. Investors are pouring into utilities stocks as data centers drive outsized demand for electricity. This is big news for the US utilities sector, which has experienced essentially flat demand growth over the last decade.

How should traders invest in a higher-for-longer rate environment? Before the Bell: What do higher-for-longer rates mean for the stock market? What I find interesting and actually kind of invigorating is the resilience of the US economy in the face of these expected higher-for-longer rates. There will be some sectors that higher-for-longer rates will impact. And so we can see consumer durables slowing down or suffering a little bit in this higher-for-longer rate environment.

That's how much the average "hidden costs" of homeownership will set you back for a median-priced U.S. home worth $436,291, according to a new analysis by Bankrate. Hidden costs include property taxes, homeowners insurance, home maintenance costs, as well as electricity, internet and cable bills, per Bankrate's study. "The [hidden] costs of owning a home are at the same level as buying a used car every year," says Bankrate analyst Jeff Ostrowski. While many online mortgage calculators include property taxes and homeowner insurance as part of a bundled mortgage payment estimate, not all do. As such, at least some of the hidden costs can be overlooked when budgeting for a new home.

CNN —Microsoft and Google will offer free or discounted cybersecurity services to rural hospitals across the United States to make them less vulnerable to cyberattacks that have disrupted patient care and threatened lives, the White House and Microsoft said Monday. Microsoft said in a statement to CNN that it would provide free security updates for eligible rural hospitals, as well as security assessments and training for hospital staff. Google will provide free cybersecurity advice to rural hospitals and start a pilot program to match the firm’s cybersecurity services with the needs of rural hospitals, Anne Neuberger, the top cyber official at the White House National Security Council, told reporters on Sunday. The nation’s roughly 1,800 rural community hospitals are among the most vulnerable to dangerous ransomware attacks because they often lack IT security resources and cybersecurity-trained staff. “We do see a much more permissive environment in Russia by both hacktivists and criminals, and it’s of concern,” Neuberger, the White House official, told reporters.
