On Wednesday, Boeing announced it will be temporarily furloughing a "large number" of white-collar employees. The news comes after around 30,000 Boeing workers began a strike on Friday after rejecting a new pay contract. "We are initiating temporary furloughs over the coming days that will impact a large number of US-based executives, managers, and employees," Kelly Ortberg, the CEO of Boeing, wrote in an email to employees. In a union vote on September 12, workers voted against an agreement that Boeing and the labor union for machinists and aerospace workers had proposed. Talen's surge comes on the back of its deal to sell a data center campus to Amazon Web Services and supply the facility with nuclear power from the Susquehanna station northwest of Allentown, Pennsylvania. The deal is viewed as a trailblazing agreement for the power industry, and Wall Street has taken notice. A year ago, Talen was not covered by any Wall Street analysts, according to FactSet data. And Talen's assets are located almost entirely in the PJM grid, a predominantly mid-Atlantic region where power prices are expected to explode as demand outstrips supply due in part to growing data center load. Data center developers are expected to spend $250 billion annually on data centers, Barclays analyst Nicholas Campanella said in a note this week.

The boy was attacked by a man about 200 meters (650 feet) from the gates of the Japanese school in Shenzhen, a tech-hub metropolis home to many Japanese businesses, according to China’s foreign ministry. But Japanese nationality is required for enrollment at the Shenzhen Japanese School, according to its website. Following that attack, Japan’s foreign ministry told Japanese schools to review their safety measures, Kamikawa said. At a regular news conference Wednesday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the case was being investigated. China’s foreign ministry has described both attacks as isolated incidents and did not release further information on the motives.

CNN —A senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has presented to the Biden administration a new proposed ceasefire and hostage deal with Hamas, an Israeli official told CNN. Reactions to the proposal have widely been that it will be a non-starter for Hamas, which has not commented on it. It is unclear whether the proposal addresses the presence of Israeli troops in Gaza after a ceasefire and hostage deal – a key sticking point in stalled negotiations. The Hostages Families Forum, which has been scathing about Netanyahu’s approach to hostage negotiations, welcomed the proposal. They cited Israel’s assassinations of Hamas leaders in foreign capitals, and said they believed Sinwar would prefer to die fighting Israel than to leave Gaza.

A week and a half after a highway shooting spree and an ensuing manhunt for an “armed and dangerous” suspect, officials in Kentucky have located a body near where the shooting happened. Kentucky State Police troopers are working to confirm the identity of the body discovered in Laurel County, officials said Wednesday. Law enforcement officials said the gunman parked near a ridge overlooking the highway to fire upon vehicles. The influential Teamsters union on Wednesday declined to issue an endorsement in the presidential race, Megan Lebowitz and Alexandra Marquez report. Prior to the announcement, the Teamsters also released survey data showing more rank-and-file members preferred to endorse Trump than Harris. Still, Harris has won the endorsement of just about every other major labor union in the country (the International Association of Fire Fighters remains a notable holdout). Instead, the Trump campaign appears to be approaching this apparent assassination attempt as an opportunity rather than as a moment to reflect.
