Bok captain Kolisi suffered a serious knee injury in April, casting major doubt over his availability for the team's title defence, but he has been selected for the first time this year against Wales in a warm-up fixture in Cardiff on Saturday. "It's massive for us as a team to have Siya back in the mix," Kolbe told reporters on Wednesday. "He means a lot to us as players with his experience and the energy he brings. Even when he was not playing, he was on the sidelines giving input, helping a lot of the guys." If someone gets injured, we know the next guy coming in will fill that role and is capable of doing even better."

Sydney, Australia CNN —A long, emotional day for Australian soccer fans turned into an even longer trip home when severe delays stranded thousands on train platforms at Stadium Australia after the nation’s disappointing 3-1 loss to England in the World Cup semifinal. I can’t blame it all on myself, but it’s hard not to feel bad right now,” she said. “I think they played incredibly,” Skye Marshall told CNN, as she stood outside Stadium Australia with her family after the match. LONDON, Aug 15 (Reuters) - England will host Zimbabwe in a one-off four-day test match in 2025 as part of a concerted effort to improve relations between the two cricket boards, officials said on Tuesday. It will be the first time Zimbabwe travel to England for bilateral cricket since 2003, when England fast bowler James Anderson took 5-73 on his debut at Lord's. "We are committed to developing a closer relationship with Zimbabwe Cricket and the announcement of this Test against our England Men’s team is a step in that ambition," England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chief executive officer Richard Gould said in a media release. Zimbabwe have not played an away test against England, India or Australia since 2003. The test will be played from May 28-31 at a venue which is still to be confirmed.

England's Farrell has red card overturned
  + stars: | 2023-08-15 | by ( Mitch Phillips | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
However, Farrell argued that the offence was worthy of only a yellow card and the independent judicial committee agreed. "After reviewing all the evidence... the committee concluded that the Foul Play Review Officer was wrong, on the balance of probabilities, to upgrade the yellow card issued to the player to a red card," the committee said in a statement. In the Committee’s opinion, this mitigation was sufficient to bring the player’s act of foul play below the red car threshold. Unlike the Foul Play Review Officer the committee had the luxury of time to deliberate and consider, in private, the incident." The bans that are being put in place for foul play are not stringent enough.

Scientists have uncovered traces of what they think could be the world's largest asteroid impact. The impact might have occurred 450 million years ago, wiping out 85 percent of Earth's species, one said. The structure, the scientists say, could be the remnants of an enormous asteroid impact that hit the Earth hundreds of millions of years ago. If confirmed, it would be the largest asteroid impact on record. The memory of the impact is hidden in the groundOne would think finding the world's largest asteroid impact should be fairly easy.

The rights of Indigenous peoples was one of the social causes FIFA chose to highlight at this year’s World Cup. He and the other members of Indigenous Football Australia, a council that supports his initiative, John Moriarty Football, have called for meaningful support of Indigenous-led grass-roots programs from soccer’s Australian and global governing bodies. John Moriarty Football says it has received less than 20,000 Australian dollars, or about $13,000, from its country’s soccer governing body, Football Australia, since Moriarty launched the program in 2012. “If it wasn’t for programs like JMF, the pathways for children in Tennant Creek to get to elite football, let alone a World Cup tournament, would be nonexistent — an impossible dream,” Moriarty wrote in an email. Courtney Fewquandie, a Butchulla and Gubbi Gubbi woman who serves as Football Australia’s general manager of First Nations, said the advisory group has agreed to a meeting with Indigenous Football Australia after the World Cup that she hopes will be “the first step to moving forward together.”

False claims are spreading on social media that Muslims in the UK are exempt from paying stamp duty, a tax paid when buying property or land. In fact, stamp duty relief rules for Sharia-compliant alternative mortgages stop the levy being paid twice, but stamp duty is still ultimately financed by the buyer. Social media accounts, including here , claim Muslims are exempt from stamp duty charges. Stamp duty relief was introduced in 2003 to end stamp duty charges on both transactions. The rules ensure the same outcome and amount of stamp duty payable as for conventional mortgages, a spokesperson for HMRC said.

China's increased appetite for thermal coal from Australia and Russia has led to a shift in imports by India, the world's second biggest coal buyer. From December to February India's imports of Australian thermal coal had been above 1 million metric tons per month, peaking in January at 1.79 million. In contrast India is turning back to thermal coal from Indonesia, with July arrivals of 6.87 million metric tons, up from 6.04 million in June. For July, Indonesia's share of India's thermal coal imports was 63%, which was the highest since the 65% in April. China and India both generally import Australian thermal coal of a lower energy value than the traditional buyers of Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

China to lift tariffs on Australian barley after 3 years
  + stars: | 2023-08-04 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
China and Australia agreed in April to resolve their dispute over barley imports, with Canberra to suspend a case at the World Trade Organization (WTO) over Beijing's anti-dumping and countervailing duties on barley, while China promised to speed up a review into the tariffs. Australian Trade Minister Don Farrell said on Wednesday that he was expecting a positive outcome within days. The tariffs will be dropped starting on Saturday, China's Ministry of Commerce said, citing a changing situation in China's barley market without providing further details. Beijing implemented tariffs totalling 80.5% on Australian barley in May 2020, wiping out imports of the grain by the world's biggest beer market, worth as much as A$2 billion ($1.31 billion) a year. Those trade flows are likely to shift again after China drops the tariffs, with its barley buyers expected to begin purchases of the new Australian crop harvested in October for arrival by year-end.

Other charges include hundreds of counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16 years, counts of making child exploitation material and other charges related to possessing, producing, distributing or obtaining child exploitation material. When the Israeli Supreme Court announced Wednesday that it would review a new law designed to curb its power, it set up a complicated choice for itself. Over the last few decades, attempts to weaken the courts around the world have become recurring signals that a democracy is in trouble. It’s more like a flashing red light, and how the judiciary responds can begin to decide how much damage is done. “What helps determine whether courts come back from the brink?” said Rosalind Dixon, a law professor at the University of New South Wales in Australia. “The mix of skills and strategic behavior of the court, and the degree of support it has from civil society and institutions and elites.”

But plans to introduce bilingual road signs featuring both the English and te reo Maori languages have sparked a divisive, racially charged debate ahead of the country’s looming general election. Slightly less than a quarter of New Zealand’s 892,200 Maori speak te reo Maori as one of their first languages, according to the latest government data. Part of the reason that te reo Maori is not so widely spoken is that back in New Zealand’s colonial era there were active efforts to stamp it out. The Native Schools Act 1867 required schools to teach in English where possible and children were often physically punished for speaking te reo Maori. “The primary objective of these standards is to guarantee that all road signs are unambiguous, uniform, and legible to all,” he said.
