PITTSBURGH (AP) — Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick believes the hit that ended B rowns running back Nick Chubb's season on Monday night was unfortunate but not dirty. HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Republican David McCormick is expected to announce Thursday that he will enter Pennsylvania's U.S. Senate race and make his second bid for the office, this time to take on Democratic Sen. Bob Casey after losing in last year’s crowded Republican primary. McCormick's aides have sent invites to a “special announcement” by McCormick at the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh at 5 p.m. McCormick, 58, was heavily recruited to run again by the party establishment and, thus far, has a clear GOP primary field. He is a stalwart of Pennsylvania’s Democratic Party — the son of a former two-term governor and Pennsylvania's longest-ever serving Democrat in the Senate. McCormick, who grew up near Bloomsburg, is the son of Pennsylvania’s first state university system chancellor.

"Obviously, he's a candidate who has completely united the grassroots," a national Republican strategist, speaking on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to discuss the candidacy, said. In a background call with reporters, a McCormick campaign strategist said the candidate "will address" those concerns "head on and directly." And the McCormick campaign strategist said the candidate will enter the race with the support of each Republican member of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation. "Dave McCormick has done a remarkable job of unifying the grassroots in Pennsylvania," Montana Sen. Steve Daines, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said in a statement. "His ability to unite both the grassroots and the establishment is extremely impressive," the national Republican strategist said.

Aug 3, 2023; Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA; Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher J.C. Mejia (36) delivers a pitch against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the eighth inning at American Family Field. The latest suspension of Mejia, who last May was given an 80-game ban after testing positive for Stanozolol, is effective immediately, MLB said in a statement. Mejia, a 27-year-old right-hander acquired from Cleveland in November 2021, appeared in nine games for the Brewers this year before being shut down in August due to shoulder inflammation. In nine appearances out of the Brewers bullpen this season Mejia allowed 15 hits and seven earned runs in 11-1/3 innings of action. The Brewers, who lead the National League Central division, placed Mejia on the 15-day injured list in August and last week transferred him to the 60-day IL.

Opinion | Can We Put a Price on Climate Damages?
  + stars: | 2023-09-20 | by ( David Wallace-Wells | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
But whenever anyone tries to put an actual price on the damages from global warming — to calibrate a carbon tax, assess past responsibility or aid in litigation against fossil-fuel malefactors — the numbers are almost too much to process. One problem is that the damage accumulates over time, like a compound interest of climate degradation. Most carbon, once emitted, hangs in the air for centuries — and some of it lingers even longer. A lump of coal being burned in Shaanxi or Inner Mongolia today does climate damage equivalent to a lump that was burned in 19th-century Newcastle or 20th-century Pittsburgh, and an oil well decommissioned three decades ago may still be doing climate damage three centuries from now. I used an optimistically low future price for such technology and assumed no obstacles to scaling that tech, though many analysts see many such roadblocks.

If voters in the heavily-Democratic district cast their ballots for former congressional staffer Lindsay Powell, Democrats will keep the slight majority they previously had. The party has defended its majority in a series of special elections since November. With either outcome, Pennsylvania's government will remain divided with Democrat Josh Shapiro in the governor's office and Republicans holding a Senate majority. With control over the calendar, Democrats have advanced a number of their priorities on a one-vote margin. If Republicans gain control of the House, they can take some of these questions to voters through proposed constitutional amendments without Shapiro's approval.

A selection of her work in this vein is currently on display in the exhibition “Harmonia Rosales: Master Narrative” at the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art in Atlanta. At the core of Rosales’ art is the idea that “storytelling is a journey of personal discovery and a reclamation of one’s cultural identity." Elon Schoenholz/Harmonia RosalesAcross 20 oil paintings and a large-scale sculptural installation, Rosales’ work challenges viewers to consider the universality of creation through a Black diasporic lens. Rosales' work demonstrates her journey towards empowerment and self-love, with figures in her artworks painted with features she used to dislike about herself. Every one of these (artworks) tells my stories.”“Harmonia Rosales: Master Narrative” is on display at the Spelman College Museum of Art in Atlanta through December 2.
