U.S. President Joe Biden is welcomed by Air Force Colonel Angela Ochoa (R) as he arrives to board Air Force One at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on July 5, 2024. Biden is scheduled to speak with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos during a campaign trip to Madison, Wisconsin. The Trump campaign and Republican Party, in turn, have started ramping up attacks on Harris. We're selling 50 shares of Morgan Stanley at roughly $100.04 each and 110 shares of Wells Fargo at roughly $60.65. We're making two small trims and locking in solid gains in our two bank stocks following their strong moves toward their 52-week highs over the past week. The bank stocks are viewed as beneficiaries of a Trump presidency due to less regulation and a more accommodative stance on mergers and acquisitions, which would benefit their investment banking operations. Morgan Stanley, Bank of Americ a, and Goldman Sachs report the week after next. From these two sales, we'll realize a gain of 12% on Morgan Stanley stock bought in July 2021 and a big gain of 77% on Wells stock purchased in January 2021.

PinnedThe monthly employment report on Friday is projected to show that employers added 190,000 jobs in June, according to a Bloomberg survey of economists. That would be a downshift from the 272,000 jobs added in May. The economy remains solid overall, with unemployment still low, the stock market hovering at new highs and wage growth outpacing inflation. But many economists say the labor market is in a sensitive place. Interest rates, which the Federal Reserve has driven significantly higher since 2022, have remained elevated longer than many businesses had hoped.

Comparing the timing of seismic signals as they touched the core revealed changes in core rotation over time, confirming the 70-year rotation cycle. But the depth and inaccessibility of the inner core mean that uncertainties remain, she added. The mysterious region where the liquid outer core envelops the solid inner core is especially interesting, Vidale added. “We might have volcanoes on the inner core boundary, for example, where solid and fluid are meeting and moving,” he said. Because the spinning of the inner core affects movement in the outer core, inner core rotation is thought to help power Earth’s magnetic field, though more research is required to unravel its precise role.

The prospect of "higher for longer" rates has also made short-term fixed income assets especially attractive. "We had a lot of investors who were in, if not cash, then sub-2-year duration fixed income at the start of the year." Takeaways for investors It doesn't hurt for retail investors to review their fixed income allocation now that the year is halfway over. A combination of fixed income assets may be what it takes to benefit from today's higher rates, lock in yields and capture rising prices once the Fed cuts. "We don't buy that there's one fixed income asset class that you should tilt toward," said Calcagni.

U.S. crude oil was little changed on Friday but was on pace for a fourth straight weekly gain as falling inventories show an uptick in demand. Oil market analysts have been forecasting a tighter market in the third quarter as summer fuel demand picks up. U.S. inventory data appeared to confirm those forecasts, with crude stocks declining by 12.2 million barrels and gasoline falling by 2.2 million barrels last week. UBS is forecasting that global oil demand will grow by 1.5 million barrels per day, or bpd, this year, above the long-term growth rate of 1.2 million bpd. "As such, we still believe Brent will likely reach the USD $90/bbl mark this quarter," Staunovo said.

Termessos, Turkey CNN —Alexander the Great tried to conquer Termessos but failed. He reputedly called the city an “eagle’s nest.”Later, the Romans had more success in controlling the city. Payroll gains so far in 2024 have totaled 1.24 million, down about 50,000 a month below the same period a year ago. "Specifically, I'm thinking more about the unemployment rate, which has been slowly trending up." Under normal circumstances, a 4% unemployment rate would be cause for celebration, not concern. The May rate was 0.5 percentage point above its 12-month low of 3.5% in July 2023, potentially triggering a recession indicator called the Sahm Rule. The rule has shown consistently that whenever the unemployment rate on a three-month average eclipses its 12-month low by half a percentage point, the economy is in recession.

Private payroll growth edged lower in June, according to a report Wednesday from ADP that indicates a potential slowdown in the U.S. labor market. Companies added 150,000 jobs for the month, below the upwardly revised 157,000 in May and the Dow Jones consensus estimate for 160,000. The sector added 63,000 jobs, easily the biggest gain among the categories that payrolls processing firm ADP measures. ADP's report serves as a precursor to the more closely watched nonfarm payrolls count that the Labor Department will release Friday. For May, the BLS reported that private payrolls rose by 229,000, or 72,000 more than ADP's estimate.

Marcus' yield hike places it in an exclusive group of financial institutions continuing to offer rates in the 5% range on deposits. Citizens Access and Capital One Financial each offer a 1-year CD that yields 5%, while Sallie Mae offers a 5.15% APY. Bread Financial is at the top of the heap, with an APY of 5.25% on a 1-year CD. Indeed, LendingClub recently slashed its 1-year CD APY to 4.2%, reflecting a cut of 95 basis points, Caintic found. CNN —The number of available jobs in the US unexpectedly grew in May, signaling continued resilience in the nation’s labor market. Job openings jumped higher to 8.14 million in May, from a downwardly revised 7.91 million in April, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report released Tuesday. While both hires and job openings rates (as a percentage of total employment) ticked higher for May, the quits rate and layoffs rate were unchanged. The labor market appears to be at a crossroads, Nick Bunker, Indeed Hiring Lab’s head of economic research, wrote in commentary posted Tuesday. But some Fed officials have noted that the job market has lost momentum recently and that it’s highly unclear whether it will continue to hold steady or weaken further.
