Treasury yields dip ahead of September jobs report
  + stars: | 2024-10-04 | by ( Jenni Reid | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +1 min
The 10-year Treasury yield was lower by one basis point at 3.84%, while the yield on the 2-year Treasury was also one basis point lower at 3.697%. U.S. Treasury yields were slightly lower early Friday as investors gear up for the closely watched September jobs report. Treasury yields rose on Thursday after ADP data showed private payrolls grew by more than expected in September. Private companies added 143,000 jobs, ahead of August's figure of 103,000 and a forecast of 128,000. That was given as justification for the jumbo 50-basis-point interest rate cut carried out by the Fed last month.

Although more traditional military drones are active. The oil tanker 'Devon' prepares to transfer crude oil from Kharg Island oil terminal to India in the Persian Gulf, Iran, on March 23, 2018. Oil prices could shoot up $20 per barrel if Iranian production sees a hit resulting from Israeli retaliation, according to Goldman Sachs. U.S. crude oil prices just saw a third consecutive session of gains after Iran launched a ballistic missile attack on Israel, heightening tensions in the region. If Israel hits Iran's oil industry, supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could become of concern, other analysts echoed. This strategically significant waterway connects crude oil producers in the Middle East with major global markets.

The widespread use of toothpaste and mouthwashes with added fluoride in recent decades appears to have diminished the known public health benefits of water fluoridation, a new study suggests. Hundreds of U.S. communities, from Amery, Wisconsin, to Union County, North Carolina, are opting out of water fluoridation. And they’ve kept up a drumbeat of dubious claims about voting, along with the lie that the election was stolen in 2020. Prosecutors allege that the Trump campaign used similarly aggressive tactics in Philadelphia to force confrontation with election officials, which Trump and his allies used to claim his supporters were denied access to observe the count. Election officials have been operating in an increasingly hostile environment as GOP skepticism of election administration has climbed. Among them: shifting numbers of noncitizens Trump allies claimed had voted in the 2020 election. In Georgia, state courts are reviewing new rules from the State Election Board that Democrats say give county election officials broad authority to delay certification of the results in search of purported election irregularities.

Days after thousands of dockworkers went on the biggest strike in decades, the union announced a tentative agreement on wages Thursday and extended a deadline for bargaining. "The International Longshoremen’s Association and the United States Maritime Alliance, Ltd. have reached a tentative agreement on wages," the union and the alliance said in a joint statement. "Effective immediately, all current job actions will cease and all work covered by the Master Contract will resume," the union said. The International Longshoremen’s Association, known as the ILA, argued that big global cargo carriers have raked in huge profits since pandemic-era supply-chain snags drove up freight rates, and that workers haven’t sufficiently shared in those gains.
