A second person confirmed that apparent Russian missiles struck a site in Poland about 15 miles from the Ukrainian border. It was Russia's biggest barrage yet, and some of the missiles crossed into Poland, where two people were killed, according to a U.S. official. A Russian missile barrage on the Ukrainian power grid sent the war spilling over into neighboring countries Tuesday, hitting NATO member Poland and cutting electricity to much of Moldova. It reported massive power outages after the strikes knocked out a key power line that supplies the small nation, an official said. At least a dozen regions reported power outages, affecting cities that together have millions of people.

Summary Nadal slumps to second loss in TurinAlcaraz on brink of being year-end No. 1TURIN, Italy, Nov 15 (Reuters) - Felix Auger-Aliassime left Rafa Nadal's title hopes at the ATP Finals in tatters as he beat the struggling Spaniard 6-3 6-4 in round-robin action at the Pala Alpitour Stadium on Tuesday. Nadal, the record 22-times Grand Slam champion, has now lost four successive ATP Tour matches for the first time since 2009. Serving at 3-4 Nadal led 40-0 but a couple of double faults and some baseline errors allowed Auger-Aliassime to break. If that happens Alcaraz will be confirmed as the youngest year-end number one since the ATP rankings were introduced in 1973.

Golubic hit back to beat former U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu 2-6 6-3 6-4 before Bencic beat Leylah Fernandez 6-0 7-5 to give last year's runners-up an unassailable lead. Friday's clash between the Swiss and the Canadians was effectively a group decider after both teams beat Italy. Golubic replaced Jil Teichmann and initially the switch appeared to be backfiring for the Swiss as Andreescu ran away with the opening set. Bencic then came out all guns blazing against Fernandez to race through the opening set, but the Canadian dug deep in an absorbing second set before Bencic wrapped up victory. Gauff never quite found her form in the second set, putting up 19 unforced errors as a near-flawless Siniakova never faced a break and roared with triumph after closing the affair 7-6(1) 6-1 for the 2018 champions.
Canada's PSP fund to double issuance of long-term green bonds
  + stars: | 2022-11-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
TORONTO, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Canada’s Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments) aims to more than double the C$1 billion ($749 million) value of sustainable bond issuance by 2026, an official at the pension fund told Reuters on Thursday. The pension scheme, which manages C$230.5 billion in assets, issued its first-ever green bond in February this year as part of its goal to reach net-zero emissions. Several other pensions including Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP), Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB), have also issued green bonds. Neither OTPP, CPPIB nor Caisse have set targets for green bond issuance. PSP, Canada's fifth-largest pension investment manager, also increased its exposure to green assets by C$6.12 billion to C$46.5 billion in 2022, it said in a report released on Thursday.

She doesn't believe mortgage rates will return to 3% because that is very low. Mortgage rates have just about doubled from where they were this time last year. If you zoom out and look at where interest rates have been, you'd realize that historically, 7% is just about average, she noted. If you're a first-time buyer, you could qualify for a Federal Housing Administration loan (FHA), which requires a lower down payment but could still provide competitive interest rates. This will allow you to readjust when interest rates come back down.
A second-half goal by Brazilian defender Gabriel earned Mikel Arteta's side their 11th win in 13 league games and they have now beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea. Gabriel's 63rd minute toe-poke by Gabriel was enough to lift Arsenal to 34 points from 13 games. "We're not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall," Potter said. But despite constant pressure they could not equalise as Liverpool held on for their first away league win of the season. Tottenham are in fourth place with 26 points from 14 games while Liverpool rose to eighth with 19 points.
Leeds United backed up their stunning win over Liverpool last week when they stormed back from 3-1 down at home to Bournemouth to win 4-3 with Crysencio Summerville again the hero with the winning goal. Haaland had missed City's last two games with an injury and was deemed fit enough only for the bench against Fulham. He was sent into the fray just past the hour mark with City, despite being a man light, pushing for the winner. Almost immediately he had a headed goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check, but neither he, nor City, would be denied. Pascal Gross's fifth goal of the season then secured the win for Brighton to move them to sixth with 21 points.
LONDON, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Tennis trailblazer Billie Jean King has spent her life fighting for gender equality and championing the rights of the LGBTQ community so it would hardly be surprising if she joined the long list of those criticising Qatar as World Cup hosts. Qatar's treatment of migrant workers and restrictive social laws which prohibit same-sex relationships has led many to question world governing body FIFA's decision. Asked if she would be happy to host the Billie Jean Cup finals, which begins this month in Glasgow, in Qatar, she said: "I probably would be because, first of all, the WTA went there years ago. Organisers of the World Cup, which starts on Nov. 20, say that everyone, no matter their sexual orientation or background, is welcome. "We were there four or five years and I think it helped," King said in a conference call with a small group of reporters ahead of the Billie Jean Cup finals which start on Nov. 8.
FILE PHOTO: European Union flags flutter outside the EU Commission headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, September 28, 2022. REUTERS/Yves HermanPRAGUE (Reuters) -The European Union asked the United States on Monday to treat EU electric vehicles, batteries and sustainable energy equipment sold in the United States the same as those from Canada and Mexico, Czech trade minister Jozef Sikela said. The 27-nation EU has been complaining the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act effectively discriminates against EU producers because it offers tax breaks to consumers on such goods made in North America, but not for those made in the EU. The EU argues that, unlike the United States, it offers the same tax breaks for EU-made and U.S.-made goods in these sectors. The issue is to be resolved by a special task force, which will meet for the first time this week, EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis said.
Two Insiders Debate the Metaverse

Phil Libin, center, and Herman Narula, right, discuss the metaverse at the WSJ Tech Live conference. The metaverse is struggling to live up to the megahype. The concept blasted off when Facebook changed its name to Meta Platforms Inc. and announced a new focus for its business: building an immersive, virtual-reality metaverse called Horizon Worlds. Like other metaverse products, the idea is to create an online community where users can interact in avatar form, hanging out, playing games, working, shopping and performing other activities.
Liverpool's second successive defeat against a team in the bottom three, following last week's reverse at Nottingham Forest, left them in ninth place, eight points off the top four. Chelsea also lost ground as Graham Potter's return to Brighton & Hove Albion ended in a 4-1 hammering. Manchester City have 29 points from 12 games, one point more than Arsenal who host bottom club Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Spurs moved to 26 points from 13 games with Newcastle, who have lost only once all season, on 24. Fulham could have moved level on points with Chelsea but were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Everton.
West Ham see off Bournemouth 2-0 amid VAR controversy

LONDON, Oct 24 (Reuters) - West Ham United defender Kurt Zouma's headed goal and a Said Benrahma penalty in stoppage time sealed a 2-0 win over Bournemouth in a scrappy Premier League tussle that was marked by VAR controversy at the London Stadium on Monday. There was precious little else for either set of fans to get excited about as West Ham held onto their lead despite some nervy moments as Bournemouth finished strongly. After a check by VAR it was deemed that the accidental handball had not directly led to the goal. West Ham were unable to make the game safe, however, until another contentious decision went their way. Bournemouth did not really offer much in the way of attacking threat and, while West Ham had some breaks, manager David Moyes said his side deserved the points.
Soccer Football - Premier League - Tottenham Hotspur v Newcastle United - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, Britain - October 23, 2022 Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe shakes hands with Sean Longstaff after the match Action Images via Reuters/Paul ChildsLONDON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - As transformations go, Newcastle United's under Eddie Howe takes some beating. After 12 games last season, shortly after Howe had replaced Steve Bruce, Newcastle were bottom of the standings on six points with the only target being Premier League survival. Fast forward to Sunday and a thoroughly-deserved 2-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur, where they lost 5-1 last season, sent Newcastle into fourth place with 21 points from 12 games in which they have lost only once. "That was the key moment in the game for me," Howe told reporters. "We didn't just drop deep and go into protection mode, we remained involved in the game as an attacking threat."
"I have a feeling that we lost two points, especially with the way we started the game and the chances we had," Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said. Newcastle have already drawn with Manchester City and Manchester United this season and their only loss was a stoppage-time defeat by Liverpool. Sunday's win at Tottenham sent the clearest message yet that they can challenge for a Champions League berth. Harry Kane pulled one back for third-placed Tottenham in the 54th minute with his 10th goal of the season but Newcastle comfortably held on for the points. "Real pride in the players today and great to be part of those scenes," Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who took over last year with the club heading towards relegation, told reporters.
MANCHESTER, England, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Struggling Nottingham Forest pulled off a stunning 1-0 win over Liverpool to claim only their second victory of the season in the Premier League on Saturday, while champions Manchester City continued their chase of leaders Arsenal. Liverpool had gathered some momentum after a poor start to the season and arrived at the City Ground to face bottom club Forest on the back of consecutive league wins. Forest moved off the bottom with nine points and manager Steve Cooper said: "This is a big win but only a win. To win a game against someone like Liverpool, you need to have very good moments at both ends. Liverpool are seventh on 16 points after 11 matches, 11 behind leaders Arsenal, who visit Southampton on Sunday.
Firefighters work to put out a fire in a thermal power plant, damaged by a Russian missile strike in Kyiv, Ukraine, October 18, 2022. State Emergency Service of Ukraine/Handout via REUTERSKYIV, Oct 21 (Reuters) - Russia has hit at least half of Ukraine's thermal generation capacity and caused billions of dollars of damage in attacks since Oct. 10, but not all stricken power units have stopped working completely, Ukraine's energy minister said on Friday. Herman Halushchenko told Reuters in an interview that 30-40% of overall national power infrastructure had been hit in attacks that he depicted as intended to destroy Ukraine's energy system -- a goal that he said had not been achieved. I can tell you that it's... at least half of thermal generation capacity, even more," he said, when asked about the scale of the damage. Russia stepped up its aerial attacks on Ukraine last week using missiles and drones to target Kyiv, other major cities and energy infrastructure.
KYIV, Ukraine — Ukraine faced widespread power outages Thursday as the country’s energy system struggled to cope with the damage from a wave of Russian attacks. Ukraine’s energy minister, Herman Halushchenko, said Thursday the government was seeking a 20% reduction in energy use and that Ukrainians had responded to the appeal to ease pressure on the country’s grid. She also has a sleeping bag designed for below freezing temperatures, a thermal blanket and even skiing clothes in case temperatures continue dropping and the strikes on energy targets continue. Current restrictions are worth it.”For months, the Kremlin said it was only after military targets — not civilian or critical infrastructure in Ukraine. The British Defense Ministry also said in an assessment this week that causing widespread damage to Ukraine’s energy network is likely the “key objective” of the Kremlin’s strike campaign.
And Black families are affected the most. “And that means more Black families are impacted,” said Samuel Gross, the registry’s founder and senior editor. “This has caused deep wounds to Black families.”Thompson’s point is easily seen in Termaine Hicks’ family dynamic. While in prison, Hicks wrote a letter to his son every month for 16 years. And especially families … ”“The disproportionate representation of communities within our prison systems tend to impact Black families and communities more,” she said.

Impressive Newcastle United bolstered their place in the top-six with a 1-0 victory at home to struggling Everton. Nunez also rattled the post with a ferocious shot but West Ham could easily have taken a point. Liverpool moved up to seventh with 16 points from 10 games, two points behind Newcastle and three behind Manchester United. UNITED TAKING SHAPEAfter a difficult start Man Utd are slowly taking shape under Dutch manager Erik ten Hag and they added Tottenham to their wins already against Liverpool and leaders Arsenal. Che Adams's first-half header earned Southampton victory at Bournemouth -- their first win in six games moving them up to 14th place with 11 points.

The leaders will also discuss emergency spending to cushion their economies and 450 million citizens from the energy crunch.
