And there are definitely areas where AI chatbots could be useful — especially when it comes to business. Artificial IntimacyThe shift toward AI relationships isn't just a theoretical possibility: Some entrepreneurs and companies are already working to create chatbot-driven connections. While it has garnered a lot of attention, CarynAI isn't the first attempt at providing people with companionship through an AI chatbot. Snap recently deployed its own AI chatbot, called My AI, aimed at supplementing social interactions on the app. In researching new AI chatbots, I was struck by the missed opportunity for disconnected people to forge new connections.

Segment leader Lululemon faces growing competition not just from upstarts like Alo, but also legacy brands like Nike. Alo Yoga is building a following among two key demographics, Gen Zers, loosely defined as those born between 1997 and 2012, and their younger counterparts, Gen Alpha, according to an article in The Wall Street Journal. A quick search reveals #over55ontiktok has 47.4 million views, and @oldgays has 11 million followers. Her agency works with Amazon and others to find TikTok influencers over 55. "Older influencers have popped in popularity recently," Karwowski told the Times. And while these older influencers probably won't generate enough income to retire on, it can help give them a financial boost, the Times says. Posting on TikTok could encourage retirees to overcome ageist stereotypes that insinuate older adults and technology don't mix.

The survey results reveal a bunch of fascinating findings, especially when student loan consumers are compared against the average US adult over 18. The average income for student loan consumers was $65,400, slightly less than the $66,200 for the average US consumer. Student loan consumers are more likely to have purchased something from Nike over the past six months than any other brand. UBS argues the end of the student loan payment moratorium will hit a bunch of brands and retailers like American Eagle Outfitters, Nike, and Gap. As my colleague Ayelet Sheffey has reported, the Biden administration remains confident that the Supreme Court will rule in its favor over the legality of its student debt forgiveness.

Gen Zers and millennials are continuing to rethink their identities in relation to their jobs. But there is a strong desire among these generations to achieve better work-life balance. In fact, more than any other trait among their peers, Gen Zs and millennials admire the ability to balance work and life priorities, the survey found. Both Gen Zers and millennials worry that if the economy worsens, it will make it more difficult for younger workers to ask for flexibility at work and improve their work-life balance, the survey found. Though respondents do believe employers have made progress enabling better work/life balance since pre-pandemic, according to the survey.

But the biggest issue is probably a housing market that simply feels unfair. From a shaky economy to student debt, to general inflation and spiking healthcare costs, there's lots to be worried about. "One was the long, weak labor market in the wake of the Great Recession, and the other is how badly the housing market functions." When you look at the housing market, it's particularly grim right now. But while Americans have different health situations (and lifestyles and levels of student debt), all of them live somewhere.

A Motorola exec said that one in five people buying a model of its foldable phone were iPhone users. Apple is rumored to be making — or at least investigating making — a foldable phone of its own. One in five people purchasing Motorola's Razr phone apparently gave up an iPhone to do so. Yi's comments came ahead of the June 23 release of the Razr Plus phone, which features a larger screen and starts at $999.99. Foldable phones are a blast from the pastAnd for all the retro energy of flip phones, there's no guarantee that younger buyers will embrace them.

The 2023 survey of more than 22,000 Gen Zers and millennials around the world found the high cost of living is the "top societal concern" of both generations, with 51% of Gen Zers and 52% millennials reporting they live paycheck to paycheck. Also, 46% of Gen Zs and 37% of millennials have taken on either a part- or full-time paying job in addition to their primary position, according to the survey. WOMEN HAVE many layers. In 2023 you could be—simultaneously—a mother, an activist, a stockbroker, a summer… Hold up; what’s that last one? Ah, yes: The idea of referring to yourself as a “season,” and dressing accordingly, is back. To older generations, the mention of this 1980s-era concept might induce shudders. But some millennials and Gen Zers are embracing this way of dressing—and it looks a little different than it did 40 years ago.

And it may seem like the simple solution is to keep young kids off of social media platforms entirely, but that's not realistic for everyone. The age of 13 is "too early" for children to use social media, he said earlier this year . When you approach them about their online activities, you shouldn't only ask about whether or not they're on social media. Create a family plan for social media useMake a decision, as a family, about these key factors:What age can children in our family start using social media? To help your kids avoid developing a reliance on social media for connection, guide them to other activities for social interaction, Doumas says.

"Small businesses are AI-curious," American Express said about the results of its recently released survey of 550 small business leaders. The survey, which ran in March, showed that 41% of small businesses are prioritizing AI to help them make decisions. The findings come as Wall Street is in the midst of an investment frenzy set off by last year's introduction of natural-language chatbot ChatGPT. But AI stocks have jumped so much that some on Wall Street think it's time to reduce risk and capture some profits.

Here are some of the generation-defining events that have had a profound effect on Gen Z. As Business Insider previously reported, Gen Z was established as a generation in 2019 by the Pew Research Center, which defines generations — such as Gen Z, Millennials, and Baby Boomers — to understand how perspectives and views change, rather than to create strict categories that define people. Here are some cultural events that have shaped the attitudes and tendencies of members of Gen Z. The recession of 2008 showed Gen Z 'the fragility inherent in the system'Members of Gen Z were children, or babies, during the Great Recession, so it hung over their formative years. Instead of looking ahead to a world of opportunities, Gen Z now peers into an uncertain future," the report continued.

In 2019, Pew Research Foundation officially established a generation after millennials, Generation Z. Generation Z includes anyone born between 1997 and 2012. The newest addition to today's workforce is Generation Z, born between 1997 and 2012. Meanwhile, most of Generation Z doesn't remember the event at all. "We look forward to spending the next few years studying this generation as it enters adulthood," Dimock wrote of Generation Z, adding that it's always possible that new data could give researchers a reason to reevaluate these generational boundaries.
TikTok has a mindless new obsession called "sludge content." Gen Zers, already known for being overstimulated, are fixating on a TikTok trend that is making them even more so. Multiscreen videos, dubbed "sludge content," have been sweeping the platform. As well as "Subway Surfers," common clips used in sludge videos include screen recordings of various smartphone games and the TV show "Family Guy." The origin of the videos is unknown but some think they keep viewers watching content for longer.

The wedding industry is beginning to see the fallout of this shift away from tradition. That meant "wedding TikTok" — with its dancing groomsmen and videographers turned influencers — was the next best thing. "So it is time for us in the wedding industry to expand the definition of what a perfect day means." Adrienna McDermott spent nine years in the wedding industry before starting a marketing agency for wedding professionals called Ava and the Bee. "It really opened up my eyes for the power of TikTok," Lee said.
The result is a housing market that's fundamentally out of whack. The housing market has changed for good — and with the benefit of time-earned wisdom, we can pinpoint the moment it entered a new era. Two big things happened during the initial response to the pandemic that launched the housing market past the point of no return. Both factors have propelled competition in the housing market to new heights and made it challenging for would-be buyers to find their footing. Some aspects of the pandemic-era housing market that once seemed "odd" are increasingly becoming new norms.
Surveys show Gen Z and class of 2023 graduates want an in-person experience. In-person work can provide young workers with community, keep them engaged, and enhance their early workplace learning. Not so with Gen Z and the class of 2023. This generation wants the community, learning opportunities, and engagement that in-person work can provide — although some young professionals aren't a fan of in-office roles and prefer remote work. "Especially for new grads, they should balance the flexibility that they have for remote work and finding new opportunities with some of the benefits of in-person work," Pardue said.
A majority, 70% of Gen Zers consider freelancing to be as viable a career option as a typical office job, according to a February 2023 Fiverr survey of 7,121 Gen Zers from around the world. Gigi Robinson, 24, influencerGigi Robinson, 24, had long struggled with chronic illnesses like Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and endometriosis. When he moved to Boca Raton, Florida, at 15, he started making videos about what it was like for a Brazilian to live in the U.S. And those gained some traction. But though he'd hoped YouTube would become his full-time gig, the channel wasn't making much. He'd also started hiring freelancers to take on some of the work from his clients.
