Former collegiate coach Jon Neeter bought a tennis center in Santa Monica, CA for $40,000 in 2010. He converted his single tennis court into four pickleball courts and business is booming. Plus, he liked the idea of his work being concentrated in one place, rather than scattered at various tennis courts all over LA. A standard pickleball court is 20 feet wide by 44 feet long, much smaller than a tennis court. Plus, he was unsure about how he was going to replicate the Santa Monica Tennis Center anywhere else in LA.

Ackman, in his initial tweet about Harvard, said that "a number of CEOs" shared his desire to publicly out the Harvard students who condemned Israel. Other business leaders were quick to echo his calls, winning plaudits on social media. In a visit to Harvard, Insider spoke with a range of students about the backlash to the statement on Israel. It's ironic, of course, to accuse students of silencing dissent when Ackman and other business leaders are seeking to do exactly that. But now, some Harvard students fear that the backlash from the business community will have a chilling effect on student speech.

CEOs called on Harvard to release the names of students who signed a letter blaming Israel for Hamas attacks. Multiple Harvard students and groups have retracted their support for the letter, claiming they never saw the statement before it was published. On Wednesday, a truck drove around Harvard's campus with a digital billboard that claimed to show the names and faces of students associated with the letter. Just as Harvard students have the right to condemn Israel, so too does Ackman have the right to call on the university to release their names, Paulson said. CNN —More than 100 bodies have been found in the Israeli kibbutz Be’eri, as details gradually emerge of the horror that unfolded as Palestinian Hamas militants launched their deadly surprise attack. Civilians were killed and taken hostage, according to Israeli authorities and videos obtained and authenticated by CNN. Footage shows militants pulling three bodies out of a car, before stealing the vehicle and driving north. Another video shows armed militants taking five Israeli civilians captive, with the bodies of four later seen lying on the ground nearby in another video verified by CNN. Of the 107 bodies discovered in the aftermath, most were of local residents of the kibbutz, though some were of Israeli security forces, a search and rescue spokesperson told CNN.

Military promotions, including for the chief of naval operations, have been held up by a single senator because of abortion policy. "It could make our response significantly less effective" and imperil aid to both Israel and Ukraine. That followed the sending of a U.S. aircraft carrier strike group and military aircraft closer to Israel as a show of support. The United States is also supplying Israel with munitions and other military supplies, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said. "This kind of situation is what many were worrying about, with all the holds on nominations and military promotions.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday told investors they may be wise to sit out the "initial feeding frenzy" when German sandal maker Birkenstock enters the market in an initial public offering on Wednesday. Birkenstock is expected to attain a $10 billion valuation and is seeking to price shares at the top of its $44 to $49 range, Reuters reported. The company saw a bump in publicity this summer after its shoes had a cameo in the "Barbie" movie blockbuster. Nevertheless, he said the company has seen solid growth and profitability, and its margins seem headed in the right direction. I say you'll be better off on the sidelines and waiting for the stock to cool down, because it probably will."

The new war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas has brought more uncertainty to the markets. While stocks shook off the conflict in Monday afternoon trading, financial experts say investors should stay the course amid elevated volatility risks. "Stay calm, think long term and look for some bargains," said David Rea, president of Salem Investment Counselors in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which is No. If markets do drop, investors focused on retirement and other goals would be wise to hold on, research shows. A $10,000 investment in the S&P 500 would have grown to $64,844 between Jan. 1, 2003, and Dec. 30, 2022 — a 9.8% return, according to research from JPMorgan Asset Management.

A day that began with air raid sirens blaring out in the early morning had by lunchtime turned into one of the most terrifying attacks Israel has known in the 75 years of its existence. Though Israel is no stranger to terrorist attacks, Saturday’s assault was unprecedented – not least because of the lack of warning. Since Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it has spent billions of dollars securing the border from attacks. To stop rocket attacks, Israel has used the Iron Dome, an effective rocket defense system developed with help from the United States. The Israel Defense Forces have already begun airstrikes in Gaza targeting Hamas infrastructure, resulting in hundreds of dead and injured.

London CNN —A painting valued at $15,000 just two years ago is now expected to fetch up to $18 million at auction after being identified as the work of the Dutch master Rembrandt. Extensive tests revealed changes that Rembrandt had made to the painting. The examination, which involved x-rays and infrared imaging, as well as intensive discussions with leading Rembrandt scholars, led Sotheby’s to conclude the painting is “an autograph work by Rembrandt.” It now values the work at between £10 million and £15 million ($12.2 million-$18.3 million). Thereafter, the painting was “entirely overlooked and completely ignored in the Rembrandt literature,” according to Sothebys. “This sophisticated painting is in equal measure a product of Rembrandt’s brush and his intellect.

A source familiar with the matter said Jordan and Scalise talked Friday and they agreed it wouldn’t be wise, so the forum is now off. CNN reported Thursday the House GOP conference was scheduled to have an in-person meeting at 6 p.m. ET on Monday ahead of the GOP’s speaker candidates’ forum on Tuesday and their internal election on Wednesday. Fox News said in a press release Friday morning that Baier was holding an “exclusive joint interview” with Scalise, Jordan and Hern from the Capitol on Monday. The Republican conference needs a family discussion.”Multiple House Republicans told CNN they were infuriated by the decision for speaker candidates to participate in a televised interview from the Capitol on Monday before speaking to the GOP conference, and several of them have already communicated those frustrations to the speaker candidates.

The surprisingly strong economy has led investors to worry that the Fed will keep rates higher for longer, which, in turn, drove US Treasury yields higher. As stocks have declined and bond yields have soared, bond prices have tanked, causing pain for investors who bet that the Fed would curtail its rate-hiking campaign earlier this year. Treasury yields rose to their highest level in over a decade earlier this week, before edging lower on a cooldown in employment data on Wednesday. Bond prices cratered in 2022 after the Fed began drastically raising near-zero rates to tame runaway inflation. US Treasury bond prices jumped earlier this year after the collapse of several regional lenders led traders to bet that the Fed would soon ease its aggressive pace of interest rate hikes.
