Crude oil futures rose Thursday as inflation eased, bolstering hopes that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates later this year. Lower interest rates typically stimulate economic growth, which can bolster crude oil demand. The inflation and interest rate outlook overshadowed mixed signals on oil demand for this year. The IEA is forecasting global oil demand growth will average just under 1 million bpd in 2024 due to subpar economic growth, greater energy efficiency and electric vehicle adoption. OPEC, on the other hand, is much more bullish, forecasting demand growth of 2.2 million bpd as the cartel sees solid economic growth of 2.9% this year.

Dave Sekera, chief US market strategist at Morningstar, says that he’s watching for insights on banks’ delinquency rates. Consumers have increasingly fallen behind on or missed payments in recent months as they get squeezed by high interest rates. But banks could see higher losses compared to 2023 if the economy were to experience a downturn, the Fed warned. Investors are wagering that the central bank will begin easing rates as soon as September, according to the CME FedWatch Tool. “The worst outcome for all of us is what you call stagflation: higher rates and recession,” Dimon said in an interview with CNBC.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday gave his take on Hims & Hers Health , a digital platform that offers telehealth services, particularly for sexual health, mental health, weight loss and skin care. Cramer suggested it might be worth starting a position in the stock now that it's pulled back some from recent highs. "While it makes sense that the stock roared on this compounded GLP-1 news, I don't love that it's now trading on what's essentially a temporary business," he said. Those great first quarter numbers didn't have any benefit from knock-off GLP-1s, and I bet the business stays strong." Hims & Hers Health did not respond immediately to request for comment.

It is their second consecutive European Championship final, and the first time England have reached a major tournament final abroad. Since then, the S&P 500 has rallied 11.1% off its early May lows and extended its year-to-date surge to 16.9%. Since UBS GWM is neutral on US stocks, Lefkowitz recommends that investors keep their expectations in check and look for alternatives. Though not flashy, bonds boast attractive yields and should continue to rally if the Fed cuts rates this fall, according to UBS GWM. However, central bank officials still want to see more progress before cutting interest rates, he noted. “The most recent inflation readings, however, have shown some modest further progress, and more good data would strengthen our confidence that inflation is moving sustainably toward 2%,” he added. Fed officials expect to cut interest rates just once this year, according to their latest economic projections in June, compared to the three cuts they forecast in March. The annual PCE inflation rate registered at 2.6% in June, down slightly from 2.7% in May. Fed officials and most economists don’t see a recession this year.
