The balcony hovers right over the information desk where Ms. Schiff, a noted poet and English professor, worked from 1995 to 2000, greeting and directing museum visitors. “My boss would stand up there and look down to make sure we were smiling,” Ms. Schiff said. On Tuesday, Ms. Schiff published her fourth book of poetry, “Information Desk: An Epic,” about her five years at the museum, off and on. Her last book, “A Woman of Property,” includes the poem “Lion Felling a Bull,” about a marble fragment from the Met. But her interviewer gave her a binder of other open positions, and soon she started at the information desk.

It's a trend often fueled by economic downturns and one that some stay-at-home dads hope will stick around. A husband may lose his job or something like that and decide to be a stay-at-home dad, but then he chooses to remain a stay-at-home dad," Shannon Carpenter, a stay-at-home dad for 15 years and the author of "The Ultimate Stay-at-Home Dad," told Insider. And you can see the change starts with stay-at-home dads, that that is an option for us to go through." How stay-at-home dads are changingOver the past 30 years, the number of stay-at-home parents has been on the rise — but the number of stay-at-home moms has essentially stayed flat. But there seems to be some evidence that changing gender norms are contributing to the rise in stay-at-home dads."

After being placed on a PIP, he 'quiet quit' for 3 months before leaving in January. Within a couple of weeks I was assigned another project, which turned out to be the worst project I've ever worked on. I started warning leadership and my peers that it wasn't going to get doneI told them we needed way more resources if we were going to do it right. That harmed me as a director — I essentially became a really expensive business analyst who wasn't making any money for the firm. After being placed on my PIP, I realized this wasn't the job for me, but I needed to ride it out to make ends meet.

Preston White is YouTube star Ryan Trahan's creative director. When Preston White applied to compete in YouTube star Ryan Trahan's new video series, he didn't think it would lead to a major career — and life — change. White and two other contestants — including Zach Levet (who also landed a job with Trahan) — ended up as finalists in Trahan's three-part video series. For the video series, the contestants spent almost a week straight with Trahan, which led to White, Levet, and Trahan keeping in touch after the competition. White immediately called Trahan, and was then thrown into a trial period as Trahan's producer, which later lead to his full-time gig as creative director.

The fanfare started building minutes before Mayor Eric Adams made his arrival on Monday. Dozens of supporters, most on Mr. Adams’s payroll, lined the City Hall rotunda staircase, behind the lectern where the mayor was about to appear. With everything in place, Mr. Adams strode in to make his announcement. He was elevating his press secretary, Fabien Levy, to become his administration’s seventh deputy mayor. In doing so, Mr. Adams was underscoring the importance he places on messaging: Mr. Levy, according to the mayor, will be the first person in New York City to hold the title of deputy mayor for communications.

The hottest gig on the freelance job market isn't coding or graphic design, as you might expect — it's writing. That's at least according to new research from Freelancer.com, which found creative writing to be the most in-demand skill employers are hiring for on its platform, based on an analysis of nearly 300,000 jobs advertised on the site between April and June. "AI can't replace creativity yet," he says. "We saw a similar trend occur in the first quarter of the year, as creative design jobs were flourishing despite interest for generative AI tripling." Other writing-related skills that have become more popular on Freelancer.com include copywriting and ghostwriting, Barrie adds.

Goldman Sachs' summer internship program is harder to get into than Harvard. This summer Goldman hosted 2,970 interns, about 500 of whom were placed in the investment bank, according to stats provided by Goldman. Some rising juniors are also part of the internship classes, however, including Stephenson, who applied for her first Goldman internship during her freshman year of college. Last summer, Stephenson took the subway to work, which had its share of problems. According to Friedland, there's no "busy work" or "shadowing" and the senior bankers rely on the interns to do real work.

If there’s anything more American than apple pie, it’s Coca-Cola, Levi’s and Harley-Davidson. No wonder so many of the latest movies tell the stories behind these beloved brands. The 1980s and ’90s, for one thing, which in these movies looks like a relative golden era. And in these movies, it was a time when the right nerd/ne’er-do-well/eccentric with the right combination of charm, chutzpah and ingenuity could make his or her dream come true. The Big Apple is a good place for reinvention, and the Swiss poet Frédéric-Louis Sauser had reason for a restart here in the spring of 1912. At 25 years old he’d washed up in New York Harbor, nearly penniless after trying his luck in Russia and Brazil. Henceforth he would be called Blaise Cendrars: a name for a poet of fire, a promise of ash (cendres) and art. “Blaise Cendrars: Poetry Is Everything,” at the Morgan Library & Museum, is one of the most appealing and eye-opening shows of the summer — a concentrated pop of free-spirited trans-Atlantic modernity, alive with rich color and typographical pyrotechnics. If you haven’t heard of Cendrars, you’re not alone; in an intro French poetry class you are more likely to encounter his good friend Guillaume Apollinaire, a more polished example of modern alienation and fractured style.

Uber and Lyft drivers protest during a day-long strike outside Uber’s office in Saugus, Massachusetts, U.S., May 8, 2019. "The best antidote to unchecked corporate greed and rising inequality is building worker power through a union," Roxana Rivera, the head of the union in Massachusetts, said in a statement. The measures' proponents would then need to gather thousands of signatures to secure their placement on the ballot. The industry-backed proposal follows a similar 2020 measure in California, where the companies persuaded state voters to solidify ride-hail and food delivery workers’ status as independent contractors with some benefits.
