It is no one's fault except perhaps my father, the geologist, who named his firstborn after a rock. I have run into a couple of Rubys and even Sapphires, but I have never even run into a "Lapis" or "Lapis Lazuli." Now, I introduce myself as Lajward Zahra — no middle name and no family name. It is incredible that when you google "Lajward Zahra," I make up all the top results despite having a relatively low profile. Either way, I love reminding myself that I am Lajward Zahra when the end of a bad day or the beginning of a long one.

CNN —Neanderthals likely made a type of glue from two natural compounds to help them better grip stone tools, according to a new analysis of forgotten artifacts recently rediscovered in a Berlin museum. “The fact that Neanderthals made such a substance gives insight into their capabilities and their way of thinking,” he said. NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Times was honored Monday with George Polk Awards for Foreign Reporting and Photojournalism for its coverage of the war between Israel and Hamas. They were among Polk Awards winners announced Monday in 13 categories. In all, five of the prestigious journalism prizes were for coverage of the Israel-Gaza and Russia-Ukraine wars. The winners will be honored in April as the university marks the 75th anniversary of the awards. That prize was established by journalist Jane Freiman Schanberg to honor long-form investigative or enterprise journalism and comes with a $25,000 award.
