Sneakerheads on social media accused fast fashion giant Shein of selling fake Air Jordans. But on Temu, a bargain Chinese shopping app, similar Air Jordan knock-offs are proliferating, as both sites struggle to audit their third-party sellers. However, similar sneakers are still available on the ecommerce site Temu, which has grown in popularity as an online dollar store. When Insider searched the site for "Air Jordans," it returned more than 1,000 results which included several similar styles. The fake Jordans highlight an ongoing problem for e-commerce companies with marketplaces open to third-party vendors.

Some apps run on data crowdsourced from relatively affordable air quality sensors sold by companies such as PurpleAir and IQAir. Air quality apps and mapsOutdoor air quality-monitoring apps like AirNow, AirCare and AirVisual have been among the nation's most used apps in past years when wildfires raged in Oregon and California. Like most air pollution trackers, it uses a color-coded visual system to indicate whether air pollution levels are good to hazardous, or whether there is not enough data to issue a rating. These include a Fire and Smoke Map, which provides information on fire locations, smoke plumes and air quality, and the AirNow Interactive Map shows ozone and particulate matter from air quality monitors across the country. Indoor air matters, tooWhile outdoor air quality is important, society doesn't talk or do enough about indoor air quality, said Richard Corsi, University of California, Davis' incoming dean of the college of engineering, currently a professor and dean at Portland State University.

Facebook's going for ubiquity — the platform approach — but it's not working well. For anyone who has watched Apple's pricing strategy over the years, this approach shouldn't have been a surprise. Apple's pricing choice also illustrates a distinctly different pricing strategy than the one taken by Apple's big AR/VR rival, Facebook. But Apple's approach does come with a distinct advantage over Facebook's. If Vision Pro is a dud — or takes forever to gain traction — like Quest, Apple at least won't likely burn tens of billions on its investments in it.

Whenever there's mention of a new CEO opening in tech, former Yahoo CEO and former Google vice president Marissa Mayer's name always seems to come up. However, Mayer raised some eyebrows in 2020 when instead of turning up at another Silicon Valley giant, she launched startup Sunshine to focus on the seemingly "smaller" problem of contacts. Mayer and co-founder Enrique Muñoz Torres started working on Sunshine in 2018 to automate the mundane task of organizing contact information. The company also has Sunshine Birthdays and Sunshine Circles that delve into organizing birthdays and sharing information with groups. "The idea is that Sunshine Contacts basically becomes the brain that operates your contacts," Mayer told CNBC back in 2020 when the app was launched.

“In those moments where you just want to type a ducking word, well, the keyboard will learn it, too,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president for software engineering. The update was announced on the first day of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, where the company also introduced its Vision Pro headset. The company said the new keyboard features would be available as part of the iOS 17 software package expected to arrive later this year. Autocorrect will use a type of neural network called a transformer model to recognize iPhone users’ most frequently-typed words and offer predictive text, according to Apple. Transformer models, which are at the heart of artificial intelligence systems like ChatGPT, analyze large amounts of text for patterns.

Stratechery founder Ben Thompson believes that Apple's Vision Pro is the "future of the Mac." The Vision Pro will start at $3,499, which is a steep price, likely signaling the cost of manufacturing a complex product. An example of what Apple Vision Pro may look like at work. Those who attended WWDC in person and were able to try the Vision Pro have said that it's a product in search of a purpose. And yet, the Grand Canyon remains yoked to the present in one key respect. The Colorado River, whose wild energy incised the canyon over millions of years, is in crisis. Down beneath the tourist lodges and shops selling keychains and incense, past windswept arroyos and brown valleys speckled with agave, juniper and sagebrush, the rocks of the Grand Canyon seem untethered from time. The Grand Canyon is a planetary spectacle like none other — one that also happens to host a river that 40 million people rely on for water and power. At Mile 0 of the Grand Canyon, the river is running at around 7,000 cubic feet per second, rising toward 9,000 — not the lowest flows on record, but far from the highest.

Called the Vision Pro, the $3,499 headset is Apple's vision for the future of personal computing. Apple on Monday held its annual WWDC keynote, where the company unveiled its much-anticipated mixed-reality headset that it's calling the Vision Pro. Regardless, the Vision Pro represents Apple's vision for the future of personal computers. But perhaps the Vision Pro with its signature Apple build quality and iOS integration is what the AR/VR industry needed all along to go mainstream. Below are the most interesting Vision Pro features:

We also see knock-on benefits for rival Club name Meta Platforms (META), which unveiled its latest headset last week. Overall, Vision Pro, which debuted at Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference Monday, should prove to be a net win for the Club portfolio. The stock market appears to be less impressed, with Apple stock under pressure since CEO Tim Cook presented the new devic e in a pre-recorded presentation Monday. Apple execs didn't mention AI once during the company's WWDC keynote. It was a deliberate choice and a stark contrast to other Big Tech companies that have embraced the term. During Microsoft, Meta, Alphabet, and Amazon's first quarter earnings calls in April, AI was cumulatively mentioned 168 times, for example. Most other Big Tech companies would likely tout these as "AI innovations" to appeal to the current enthusiasm around the term. The word wasn't mentioned one time during the entire keynote, even though many rivals would likely use the word to describe the Vision Pro headset.

Apple's mixed-reality headset debut marks a "watershed moment" for the industry, said the executives of some major players in the augmented and virtual reality space as they welcomed competition for the U.S. tech giant. Cher Wang, Taiwanese tech giant HTC's CEO, told CNBC that she sees Apple's move as a validation for the industry. HTC has long been a mainstay of the virtual and augmented industry, pivoting from its ailing smartphone business several years ago to focus on its Vive headsets division. Apple says the Vision Pro will allow users to see apps in a new way in the spaces around them. With the headset, users can watch movies, including in 3D with spatial audio, view their own pictures or videos, and play video games.

The Vision Pro has two hours of use with an external battery, which Apple said would reduce the weight on the user's head. In addition to Meta, Sony Group Corp (6758.T) and ByteDance-owned Pico both recently released virtual reality devices.

June 5 (Reuters) - Snap Inc (SNAP.N) said on Monday it hired a new senior vice president of engineering from Google, the latest in a string of new recruits to advance its advertising business. Eric Young, who was previously vice president of engineering for Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google Cloud, will oversee the core infrastructure for Snap, which owns the popular photo messaging app Snapchat. While Snap has consistently expanded its audience for Snapchat, which now has 750 million monthly users, the company has struggled to generate revenue at the same pace. While at Google, Young worked on building the tech infrastructure for products like search, ads and YouTube. His appointment at Snap comes after the company hired Rob Wilk, former head of advertising at Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O), to become president of the Americas region, as well as another Google executive to lead revenue product.
