Mr. Kristof’s column elucidates how West Coast liberals are doing damage to some of the very causes they are meant to champion. We all need to demand better oversight and outcomes, not just well-intended promises. Susan GeorgeMill Valley, Calif. To the Editor:Nicholas Kristof’s recent critique misses the mark. He should spend more time in Portland, Ore., where results-focused people are effectively addressing a homeless and behavioral health crisis on our streets every day. In response to a national crisis, Portland is marrying pragmatism with our progressive values to implement effective solutions to challenging problems.

AdvertisementThis was Belgium at their finest, and Romania raised the level of their game in the second half to try to equalise. If Austria wanted to have any chance of qualifying to the round of 16 they had to beat Poland in their second group game. The wide areas were where Ukraine focused their attacks, and Oleksandr Zinchenko’s square pass to Mykola Shaparenko made it 1-1 in the second half. However, Samet Akaydin and Altay Bayindir’s mishap on the second goal decreased Turkey’s probability of a comeback. More off-ball runs in the second half led to the third, and by then the match was done and dusted.

The annual conversations around Pride marches, both in New York City and across the country, often focus on who should — or shouldn’t — be included. While these are crucial debates, they often mean that, paradoxically, what gets lost is a discussion of belonging in a broader sense. Pride retains its importance precisely because it gives the L.G.B.T.Q. A trove of photographs that elegantly capture Pride in all its inclusive intimacy, focusing not only on the marchers but on the crowds reveling from the sidelines, illuminates how powerful that element can be. “From the beginning,” Mr. Cratsley wrote, “I was excited by the parade’s exotic, somewhat chaotic sexiness and joy.

In fact, for many if not most jobs, there are no legal prohibitions on hiring those with criminal records. And when a criminal record of any kind turns up, that can kill a person’s chances, regardless of how well-qualified they may be for a position, either because an employer has a high aversion to risk or a bias against those with a record, Love said. Or the paperwork and time required to get approval for someone with a criminal record may be such that an employer simply decides to look at candidates without a record. “Sometimes people believe they are required to turn my clients down because of a criminal conviction. That law provides for eligible conviction records to be automatically “sealed,” meaning they should no longer show up on employer background checks.

CNN —The Supreme Court ruled Friday in favor of an Oregon city that ticketed homeless people for sleeping outside, rejecting arguments that such “anti-camping” ordinances violate the Constitution’s ban on “cruel and unusual” punishment. The case centered on “anti-camping” ordinances in Grants Pass, Oregon, that were challenged by several residents experiencing homelessness. “For some people, sleeping outside is their only option.” The city, she said, “punishes them for being homeless. The ordinances barred people from sleeping in public with “bedding,” which can include sleeping bags or bundled-up clothing. Some venture capitalists are trying to change the equation and are backing minority founders to help them scale their companies and create jobs within their communities. The largest cities that lack any LGBTQ+ founders are Orlando, Florida; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Birmingham, Alabama. One organization trying such solutions is Chasing Rainbows, a venture capital fund that works with LGBTQ+ founders to connect them with capital. Stokes said the LGBTQ+ community historically has experienced some form of discrimination when trying to access these types of services. Add to that the noise surrounding the US election, and it could be a rougher second half. Central Banks in Canada and the eurozone have both cut interest rates, but inflation rose in both of those regions last month. Australia, meanwhile, saw its inflation rate rise to 4% this week, stoking fears that the Reserve Bank of Australia could soon move to raise rates again. It was already well known that no documentation was found to show who worked on the door plug. Without the bolts, the door plug incident was pretty much inevitable.
