The recall involves Tide, Gain Flings, Ace and Ariel liquid laundry detergent pod packets, which were made between September 2023 and February 2024 and sold in flexible film bags in the United States. The CPSC warned that eating a large quantity of detergent can result in death, especially among people with underlying health issues. There have been no confirmed cases of injury directly related to this packaging defect, the CPSC said. Consumers can check for recalled lot codes at pg.com/bags and compare them to codes at the bottom of their package. The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately put recalled bags out of sight and reach of children.

Some Walmart customers may be entitled to claim up to $500 as part of a $45 million settlement that the retail giant is paying to resolve a class-action lawsuit, according to a settlement administrator’s website. The lawsuit, filed on Oct. 19, 2022, claimed that Walmart overcharged shoppers for in-store purchases of certain weighted grocery items, including poultry and pork, and for bagged citrus. The lawsuit alleges that Walmart falsely inflated product weight, mislabeled products and overcharged for clearance products sold by weight. The retail giant has denied the allegations, but it agreed to the settlement. “We believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties,” a Walmart spokeswoman said in a statement.

New York CNN —Two million Black+Decker steamers have been recalled after more than 80 reports of burn injuries, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday. More than 500,000 of these steamers were already recalled in November 2022, but the recall expanded Thursday to include 1.6 million more. The recall noted that 94 of the 317 reports happened with repaired steamers from the 2022 recall or from models with an updated design. Some customers received a replacement upper assembly as part of the 2022 recall — those customers should receive a refund as well. The steamers were sold in store and online at Walmart, Target, Amazon, Bed Bath & Beyond, as well as other retailers.

More than two years later, only four states — Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania and Hawaii — have opened stations funded by the program. The smaller rival of Costco and Walmart -owned Sam's Club is just the latest warehouse club to share its goals for expansion. The company plans to open a dozen new clubs this fiscal year, including an already announced club in Louisville, Kentucky. But a new report suggests we don't know whether organized retail crime is a big problem or not. "Organized retail crime," "retail theft," and similar terms don't correspond with categories that local police departments use to categorize crimes, Hanna Love, a fellow at Brookings, told Business Insider. It's unclear what makes organized retail crime "different than, say, other instances of shoplifting" from a data perspective, Love said. The NRF has said that it took back the estimate due to an error by an outside analyst who contributed to its report on organized retail crime. About fourteen states passed new laws on retail theft in 2022 and 2023, Stateline reported in December.

Three types of Krispy Kreme donuts — original glazed, chocolate iced with sprinkles and chocolate iced “kreme” filled — will go on sale at McDonald’s restaurants starting later this year, the companies told CNN on Monday. Krispy Kreme is giving away a free glazed doughnut to guests who visit a Krispy Kreme location between 5 and 9 pm on Tuesday to celebrate the partnership. The addition of a Krispy Kreme donut to the McDonald’s customer’s breakfast order began as a test at 160 restaurants in Kentucky. But customers can buy Krispy Kreme doughnuts in other places, such as Walmart and other grocery stores. “By making Kreme Krispy accessible to fans nationwide through this partnership, we expect to more than double our points of access by the end of 2026,” said Krispy Kreme President and CEO Josh Charlesworth in a statement.
