Parents should not use infant head shaping pillows to change a baby’s head shape or symmetry, the Food and Drug Administration advised on Thursday. Head shaping pillows typically look like a small mat that slopes downward in the middle to an indent or hole designed to cradle the back of an infant’s head. Not all such pillows are labeled as "head shaping" — some are called baby head support pillows, head cushions, flat head pillows, or anti-flat head pillows. According to the FDA, marketing claims for head shaping pillows commonly suggest that they can improve an infant’s head shape and symmetry or prevent or treat flat head syndrome. The FDA also urged health care providers to discourage the use of infant head shaping pillows and to educate parents on the risks associated with them.
Formerly a prodigious amateur, for eight years Brewerton had traveled the world competing at the summit of women’s professional golf. Regular top-10 finishes became fleeting, then non-existent, and as Brewerton’s ranking tumbled, so too did her income. Despite her struggles in the game, Brewerton never fell out of love with golf. Looking back, Brewerton believes she was often guilty of over-training, at the expense of working on the mental side of her game. Comfortably inside the top-20 ranked players on the LET, Brewerton is enjoying her best season in a decade, with three top-10 finishes highlighting a flurry of top-25 outings.
It sounds morbid but the exercise is designed to call attention to “missing white women syndrome,” the tendency of news organizations to pay relatively little attention to missing people who don’t fit that category. According to the calculator, the disappearance of a 22-year-old white woman in New York would generate 67 stories. And a missing 25-year-old Black woman from New York would get eight. More than 92% of Americans would have heard about a 22-year-old missing white woman from Nevada, the tool says. There was no comparable data from when “missing white person syndrome” was first talked about two decades ago.
Four of our Club holdings — Costco Wholesale (COST), Amazon (AMZN), Humana (HUM) and Bausch Health (BHC) — were in the news Thursday. Bausch Health The news: Bausch Health reported third-quarter results before the opening bell Thursday. Given the latter's roughly $4.73 billion market capitalization, Bausch Health's stake is worth approximately $4.2 billion. The reason behind Bausch Health trading consistently below the valuation of its BLCO stake is debt. Secured debt means that Bausch Health has put up assets as collateral, meaning in the event of default the lenders take ownership of the collateralized assets.

“The FDA is not aware of any demonstrated benefit with the use of infant head shaping pillows for any medical purpose,” the agency said in a statement. “If you own an infant head shaping pillow, throw it away; do not donate or give it to anyone else,” the agency said. For health care providers, the FDA recommends they discourage the use of infant head shaping pillows, and ensure that patients understand the risk of infant death with use. Infant head shaping pillows are easily available, and found at many major infant retailers according to Dr. Sarah Schaffer, pediatrician at the National Children’s Hospital. “Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID), which includes Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), is the leading cause of injury death in infancy,” said the American Academy of Pediatrics on their website.
An earlier study in adults showed that the drug did indeed help with weight loss. “We’ve entered the phase where we are seeing the kind of weight loss where teens come to us in tears. In addition to the weight loss, the drug reduced some cardiovascular risk factors, including waist circumference and bad cholesterol. As it turns out, even when people get weight loss surgery, “three years out, there is significant weight gain,” Li said. When a weight loss drug like this is prescribed to patients, that shouldn’t be the end of things, Li said.
The research will look at whether the drug can effectively treat depression when other therapies have failed. COMPASS Pathways, a United Kingdom-based pharmaceutical company that focuses on psilocybin research, is conducting the study. Most psychedelics, including psilocybin, are illegal at the federal level in the U.S. No one knows for sure how it might work to treat depression. Nayak was also not involved with the COMPASS study, but does conduct research on psilocybin for other mental health conditions. A re-enactment of a COMPASS Pathways psilocybin therapy session.
The Coming War Over Taiwan

The U.S. is running out of time to prevent a cataclysmic war in the Western Pacific. While the world has been focused on Vladimir Putin’s aggression in Ukraine, Xi Jinping appears to be preparing for an even more consequential onslaught against Taiwan. Mr. Xi’s China is fueled by a dangerous mix of strength and weakness: Faced with profound economic, demographic and strategic problems, it will be tempted to use its burgeoning military power to transform the existing order while it still has the opportunity. This peaking-power syndrome—the tendency for rising states to become more aggressive as they become more fearful of impending decline—has caused some of the bloodiest wars in history. Unless the U.S. and its allies act quickly, it could trigger a conflict that would make the war in Ukraine look minor by comparison.
The only field in medicine that uses all of these tools is orthopedic surgery, so it seemed like the right fit. I specialized in limb-lengthening surgery specifically because I wanted to do something that was different from everybody else. People that undergo limb-lengthening surgery are from all walks of life, and many used COVID lockdowns to recover post-surgery. I would say 80% to 85% of my cosmetic limb-lengthening patients are men and 15% to 20% are women. Even though I've done limb-lengthening surgeries hundreds of times, I still get a little nervous.
This week's letter is from a manager whose colleague has lied and his boss doesn't care. Experts say he's experiencing moral injury — when an event or behavior violates your values. I'm a bank procurement manager who's dealing with a difficult situation with one of my colleagues, "Melanie." Most research related to moral injury concerns members of the military, as combat and war create situations that might conflict with people's moral and ethical values. There's no easy remedy for moral injury.
It's been a wild week in tech, made even more wild by Elon Musk's Twitter deal closing last night. We've got a ton of news this morning, including an account from a longtime tech exec who took a job at an Amazon fulfillment center to help cure his burnout. How an $18-an-hour Amazon warehouse job cured one tech exec's burnout. He decided to quit his CEO job and, eventually, take on a seasonal role at an Amazon fulfillment center. How Elon Musk's "autocratic leadership" will change Twitter.
He quit his CEO job and began working 11-hour Amazon warehouse shifts during the company's busiest season. I decided to take a warehouse job at AmazonIt felt like the one thing I really needed for myself was some structure — wakeup times, some exercise — just to get out there somehow. Philip Su worked in an Amazon warehouse for seven weeks. My warehouse job lifted me out of my depressionI took the job because I was desperate for something to enforce regularity for me, and I very much benefited from Amazon doing that. Are you an Amazon warehouse worker with a story to tell?
A January 6 defendant who broke two windows in the Capitol was spared prison on Wednesday. A federal judge sentenced Nicholas Rodean to home confinement instead, Politico reported. The judge said that Rodean's Asperger's Syndrome influenced him to join other rioters that day. But on Wednesday, US District Court Judge Trevor McFadden sentenced him to 240 days of home confinement instead, saying that his Asperger's Syndrome made him "particularly susceptible" to the influences that day, Politico reported. "I am really sorry about breaking the window," Rodean told McFadden, according to Politico.

Oct 25 (Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ.N) therapy for treating a type of multiple myeloma, the company said on Tuesday, giving another treatment option to patients with the incurable blood cancer. Tecvayli is a bispecific antibody, which is engineered to redirect body's immune system to recognize and kill cancer cells. It is the first drug of its class to be approved for multiple myeloma. According to the American Cancer Society's estimates, close to 35,000 new cases of multiple myeloma are likely to be diagnosed in the United States this year.

John Schott MD, a portfolio manager at The Colony Group, retired psychiatrist and a recognized expert on market psychology, coined the term Bear Market Depressive Syndrome (BMDS) in his 1998 book "Mind Over Money." After prolonged bull markets, investors tend to go into denial during bear markets. MARKET RISK FACTORS ALMOST UNPRECEDENTEDThe S&P 500 (.SPX) was down more than 27% year-to-date in mid-October. "That essentially moves the market at a faster pace than you would have seen in previous periods of market weakness." Negative sentiment readings indicate the market is running out of sellers, and are thus considered a bullish signal.
But after trying her hand at acting — and quickly becoming disillusioned with the industry — she decided that the money in pitch decks was too good to turn down. "I didn't even know people [created pitch decks] professionally," said Williams, who got into the industry through a business connection. Designing a pitch deck requires a balance of creative design and business acumen, she said. The deck's font really matters. It's also key that the font in a pitch deck aligns with the branding on a website.

Justin Westwood"Then he started asking me for money again, which usually means he's in trouble," she told Insider. It wasn't until he started asking for money for his gas bill and constantly coming over for dinner that his mom understood how little money Westwood had. On "Ted Lasso" Jason Sudeikis' titular character, an American football coach who manages a British soccer team, leads with optimism, camaraderie and the occasional homemade biscuit to butter up his boss. Off-screen, however, the Emmy-winning actor has relied on different strategies to build a successful career. Sudeikis explained to Indeed CMO Jessica Jensen that while he was growing up in Overland Park, Kansas, the goal was to take improv classes and learn about comedy writing. Then, when he moved to Chicago, that goal became finding work at Second City, a comedy club with famous alumni like Steve Carell and Tina Fey. That experience taught Sudeikis another important career lesson that would stick with him: "Pay attention to the people who have carved a path slightly ahead of you."
Vibrio vulnificus causes an estimated 80,000 illnesses and 100 deaths in the United States every year, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Vibrio vulnificus is one of the bacteria that can cause what’s commonly known as a flesh-eating infection. Vibrio vulnificus infection is the leading cause of death related to eating seafood in the United States. With skin infections, a doctor will first take samples from the infected area to determine if Vibrio vulnificus is what’s causing the problem. Up to 50% of Vibrio vulnificus infections don’t respond to certain antibiotics anymore, studies show.
After dealing with health issues for “the past seven years,” TikToker Dixie D’Amelio shared in an Instagram live that she has been diagnosed with premenstrual dysphoric disorder. I wasn’t feeling great and not really sure why,” D’Amelio, 21, said in a livestream originally posted on her Instagram and shared widely on TikTok. “I’m feeling better now and I will probably be going through the same thing next month and the month after that,” D’Amelio said, adding that she’s learning more about the disorder. The second season of “The D’Amelio Show” premiered last month on Hulu, with new episodes airing on Wednesdays. As D’Amelio noted, fans may be able to see her experience with the disorder in the coming episodes.
Guillain-Barré syndrome, Bell’s palsy, acute flaccid myelitis and transverse myelitis are not polio “renamed”, despite claims posted online. It was NEVER eradicated, it's been renamed several times, Guillian Barre, Bells Palsy, Acute Flaccid Myelitis, Transverse Myelitis... Any neurological disorder has been renamed polio.”A similar post can be found here. Though primarily seen following an acute infection, GBS can also be a rare side effect of vaccination (here). Four medical syndromes with symptoms that can include muscle weakness and paralysis are not “polio renamed”, as claimed on social media. Poliovirus infection, while extremely rare, can lead to some of these syndromes, but the syndromes themselves also have other, more common causes and distinct symptoms.
Babies born to Black mothers are twice as likely to die in the first month than infants born to white women. That death rate was 1.6% among babies born to Black mothers, compared with just 0.3% for babies born to white mothers. Death rates were twice as high among newborns of Asian, Pacific Islander and Hispanic mothers who used fertility technologies compared with babies born to white mothers. Black women are also twice as likely to have stillbirths or preterm births than white women, according to Lisonkova's study. Indeed, Black women in the study who conceived using fertility treatments were slighter older on average than white women who did so.
At the DuPont warehouse, Amazon workers with such injuries took an average of 103 days to heal, Washington state found. Workers' compensation payouts to Amazon workers with musculoskeletal disorders are often in the tens of thousands of dollars — some exceed $100,000, data from Washington state shows. But because musculoskeletal disorders take months to develop and aren't as visible as other, more catastrophic injuries, even some Amazon workers write them off. Williams was out of work for more than 150 days because of her shoulder injury, internal Amazon injury logs show. The company needs to become "Earth's Safest Place to Work," Amazon's founder, Jeff Bezos, said in his final letter to shareholders last year.
After a successful run on the show, he couldn't land another writers room job for over two years. It was my first TV writing job. A few years later, I got my first job on "The Office" through NBC's diversity program. Ryan Koh started working again fairly quickly as well. It was a race thing, for sureLooking back, I think that part of why I couldn't get another TV writing job after "The Office" was because the writers rooms were smaller.
