In 1889, journalist Nellie Bly set off on a trip around the world, trying to make it under 80 days. "You see a huge emphasis being placed on building ships that were ever faster than the previous generation of ships," Goodman said. Once aboard the train, Bly began to receive telegrams from her editors and well-wishers. "Sometimes it literally literally just says, 'Nelly Bly's train,'" Behn said. For Behn, what Bly and Bisland did remains incredible and deserve to be remembered as much as Verne's story.

New York CNN —Navigating the grocery aisle is overwhelming, especially when trying to make sense of food labels. Shoppers who want to know where their food comes from, or how long it will last, have to work even harder. Government agencies have strict guidelines for food safety and nutrition labels on packaged foods. But other information like sell-by dates or animal welfare labels are less regulated — and some are effectively meaningless. Here’s how to know what you’re looking at when you’re reading food labels.

One brave creator at Meta's "Instagram University" event, which gathered emerging creators, social-media managers, and journalists at Meta's Hudson Yards headquarters on October 6, did just that. "I just have a baby beef with Instagram," a beauty creator blurted out during a Q&A session wrapping up the event. Citing Meta's "really rough" last year, Mosseri said matter-of-factly, "I couldn't afford to run that program in the US." Mosseri did not indicate when exactly the right moment would be to bring back bonus payments to the US, however. Conagra Brands beats quarterly profit estimate on price hikes

[1/2] Slim Jim products, owned by Conagra Brands, are seen for sale in a store in Manhattan, New York, U.S., November 15, 2021. Shares of the Chicago-based packaged food maker fell 1.4% to $26.15 premarket on Thursday as Conagra missed quarterly sales estimates and also maintained tepid targets for annual sales and profit. Peer General Mills (GIS.N) in September also narrowly topped profit estimates on higher prices, but the Cheerios cereal maker's volumes took a hit as consumers turned cautious. Campbell Soup (CPB.N) forecast an upbeat annual profit as the company bets on easing cost pressures. Conagra reported first-quarter net sales of $2.90 billion, while analysts on average expected $2.95 billion, according to LSEG data.

Higher chicken prices should improve earnings at top producers Tyson (TSN.N) and Pilgrim's Pride (PPC.O), but will pinch consumers' pockets as they try to save money by turning away from higher-end proteins. Arkansas-based Tyson, which sells all three types of meat, had to deal with a glut of chicken after earning massive profits when meat prices soared during the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. government last month trimmed its estimate for 2023 chicken production from August due in part to expectations for lower chick placements. "We've seen some recovery in chicken prices and we've seen some consumer prices start to level off," Tyson CFO John R. Tyson told investors last month. Further increases in chicken prices could threaten demand, said Adam Speck, senior commodity analyst for Gro Intelligence.

REUTERS/Joshua Roberts/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 2 (Reuters) - McDonald's (MCD.N) and Wendy's (WEN.O) have defeated a lawsuit accusing them of deceiving hungry diners by exaggerating the size of their burgers. Chimienti, a resident of Long Island's Suffolk County, said McDonald's and Wendy's ads depicted undercooked beef patties because meat shrinks 25% when cooked. The complaint quoted a food stylist who said she had worked for McDonald's and Wendy's, and preferred undercooked patties because fully-cooked burgers looked "less appetizing." He said McDonald's and Wendy's were not legally obligated to sell burgers by advertising them, and that their websites provided "prominent, objective information" about the burgers' weight and caloric content. McDonald's, Wendy's and their lawyers did not immediately respond to similar requests.
