New York CNN —Facebook-parent Meta on Wednesday officially launched its Twitter competitor, Threads, after first confirming its plans for the app just three months ago. And for Meta, Threads could further expand its empire of popular apps and provide a new platform on which to sell ads. Similar to Twitter, users can reply to, repost and quote others’ Threads posts. Frequent technical issues and policy changes have sent some noteworthy Twitter users heading for the exits. For Meta, Threads could be a way of eking additional engagement time out of its massive existing user base.

Until recently, Shein has relied on sourcing its products through its on-demand manufacturing model. Last month, the Chinese-owned e-commerce company expanded its marketplace beyond clothing and introduced home appliances, electronics, gardening supplies, and kitchen utensils, among other categories. But to grow its offerings, the company took a page out of Amazon's Marketplace playbook and opened its marketplace to third-party retailers in May. In doing so, it may invite more of the same counterfeit and copyright infringement issues that Amazon's marketplace has faced. In 2020, Amazon established its Counterfeit Crimes Unit, which works with brands to identify and remove counterfeit products.

CNN —Twitter is threatening Meta with a lawsuit after the blockbuster launch of Meta’s new Twitter rival, Threads — in perhaps the clearest sign yet that Twitter views the app as a competitive threat. On Wednesday, an attorney representing Twitter sent Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg a letter that accused the company of trade secret theft through the hiring of former Twitter employees. “No one on the Threads engineering team is a former Twitter employee — that’s just not a thing,” he said on Threads. Unlike some Twitter rivals, Threads has experienced rapid growth, with Zuckerberg reporting 30 million user sign-ups in the app’s first day. As of Thursday afternoon, Threads was the number-one free app on the iOS App Store.

Both the Fitbit Sense 2 and the Apple Watch Series 8 are the latest generation of their brand's flagship wearable — and are the best Fitbit and best Apple Watch, respectively, you can buy. While the original Fitbit Sense had a small touch-sensitive haptic button on the left-hand side of the watch, Fitbit added a physical button to the Fitbit Sense 2, which is easier to operate, especially during workouts. REUTERS/Mike Segar/File PhotoTOKYO, June 17 (Reuters) - Japan plans to stoke competition in smartphone app payments, dominated by Apple (AAPL.O) and Google, by banning major app store operators from forcing software developers to use the operators' own payment systems, a government panel said. Apple's iOS and Android from Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google roughly split Japan's mobile OS market. Apple allows users to download iPhone apps only through its own app store, while both Apple and Google require software developers to use proprietary payment systems that charge commissions of up to 30%.
