The Illinois State Board of Elections rejected a complaint on Tuesday that sought to disqualify former President Donald J. Trump from the state’s primary ballot. The appointed eight-member board determined unanimously that it did not have the authority to decide whether Mr. Trump had engaged in insurrection, the basis for the complaint. The board had appointed a former Republican judge, Clark Erickson, to hear arguments in the case. In an opinion made public over the weekend, Mr. Erickson said that he believed Mr. Trump had engaged in insurrection by attempting to remain in office after losing the 2020 election. But Mr. Erickson said he did not believe that the board had the authority to disqualify Mr. Trump on those grounds, and that the question should instead be left to the courts.

CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois' election board on Tuesday is scheduled to consider whether to keep Donald Trump on the state’s primary ballot after a recommendation that he be removed over the Constitution's insurrection provision. That state's highest court found the 14th amendment barred Trump from the ballot over his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. The push has notched successes in Colorado and in Maine, where the Democratic secretary of state also recommended removing Trump from the ballot. The eight-member Illinois election board is split evenly between Democrats and Republicans. If the vote is tied 4-4, the effort fails and Trump’s name would remain on the ballot.

Now I'm 24, and I'm totally sober. Some people even go as far as to tell me that I just must think that I'm perfect since I don't drink. Walmart said it hasn't made any changes to store managers' pay structure in more than a decade. U.S. managers of the sprawling supercenters, which run about 180,000 square feet, will receive $20,000 in stock grants. Walmart said the stock grants will vest over a three-year period, with ownership for one-twelfth of the grant total coming every quarter. The new starting annual base salary for U.S. store managers will range from $90,000 to $170,000. After living in New York City for 20 years, I moved to Florida, about 15 minutes from Disney World. I was born and raised in New York City, so I knew living in Florida would be very different. It's safe to say I was very startled by this animal I wasn't expecting to see run across the front of the hotel. The case against Donald Trump in Georgia for allegedly participating in a criminal conspiracy to interfere with the 2020 election is more important than any individual actor managing the prosecution, and that includes the Fulton County district attorney, Fani Willis, and the case’s lead prosecutor, Nathan Wade. In recent weeks, Ms. Willis and Mr. Wade have found themselves in a spotlight that should belong to the serious charges against Mr. Trump. The two are the focus of a legal motion, and ensuing news reporting about a possible romantic relationship between them has explored whether it amounts to a conflict of interest with regard to the case. I’m a law professor in Georgia who teaches ethics and who has studied the legal consequences that might come if Ms. Willis and Mr. Wade are found to have a conflict, and I believe the judicious and farsighted course would be for Ms. Willis to take a personal leave of absence and turn over control of the district attorney’s office, and the case against Mr. Trump, to a career deputy district attorney. Doing so would be an act of public service by Ms. Willis — and more important, offers the best option for keeping the criminal case on track and holding Mr. Trump and his co-defendants accountable for their actions in the 2020 election if that is the just outcome.

The other schools named in the original lawsuit have yet to announce trial dates or progress toward reaching a settlement.

Netflix – The streaming stock popped nearly 13% after topping fourth-quarter revenue estimates and posting strong subscriber growth. Revenue topped expectations and AT & T added more subscribers than anticipated, but the company forecasted lower-than-expected adjusted earnings for 2024. The company guided for fourth-quarter revenue of $2.90 billion, under the $3 billion expected by analysts surveyed by FactSet. Abbott posted adjusted earnings that came in line with the consensus estimate of analysts polled by FactSet at $1.19 per share. The firm also told investors to anticipate full-year adjusted earnings between $4.50 and $4.70 per share, a range that includes the $4.63 per share analyst forecast.
