Still, the mood in the dressing room after Sunday's edge-of-seat drama was about two points lost than the one salvaged, manager Mikel Arteta said. "Super intense match," Arteta said. "We relied on big defensive moments where Aaron took a big part," Arteta said. Arsenal's lead was cut to six points, with City having a game in hand. The result set up what should be a thrilling match between the two at City's Etihad home on April 26.

LIVERPOOL, England, April 9 (Reuters) - Arsenal's grip on the Premier League title race was loosened as Liverpool produced a storming comeback to snatch a 2-2 draw in super-charged clash at a raucous Anfield on Sunday. The north Londoners were heading for a first league win at Liverpool since 2012, an eighth successive league win and a massive three points in their quest to win the league as they powered into a 2-0 lead. Arsenal have 73 points from 30 games, while Liverpool are eighth with 44 points. The game was under control but after that we concede a really sloppy goal and the game shifted momentum," Arsenal manager Arteta said. Liverpool took charge after the break and were awarded a penalty in the 58th minute after Rob Holding fouled Jota.
LIVERPOOL, April 9 (Reuters) - Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was left at a loss to explain how his side did not complete a comeback win against Arsenal in what he described as a 'spectacular' game at Anfield on Sunday. An open game, completely open, they score with the first situation and the second one," Klopp said. "It was a spectacular game in the end. The draw left Liverpool down in eighth spot, a massive 29 points behind leaders Arsenal, although Klopp's side may just have opened the door for champions Manchester City. Arsenal lead City by six points but have played a game more and must also visit the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester United maintained their top-four pursuit while at the bottom there were vital victories for Bournemouth and West Ham United. Leicester City's plight worsened as the 2015-16 Premier League champions suffered a seventh defeat in eight league games as they lost 1-0 at home to Bournemouth to stay 19th. Newcastle's fifth consecutive win moved them up to 56 points from 29 games -- the same as Manchester United who beat Everton 2-0 in Saturday's early kickoff. Arteta preparing Arsenal players for Anfield 'jungle'

April 8 (Reuters) - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is preparing his players to take their Premier League title charge to the Anfield "jungle" as they look to end a marathon winless run at the home of Liverpool. Arsenal have not won at Anfield in the Premier League since their 2-0 victory in the 2012-13 season - a game in which Arteta himself played for the north London club. "You cannot train the players in the zoo and then go to the jungle on Sunday," Arteta told reporters on Friday. You have to prepare the players. Arteta said his side are enthusiastic ahead of Sunday's clash with Liverpool as Arsenal look to maintain their eight-point lead over Manchester City in the title race.

REUTERS/Phil NobleCompanies Ford Motor Co FollowDETROIT, April 5 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) plans "dramatic reductions" in the complexity of its product lineup starting in the 2024 model year, Jim Baumbick, the automaker's product development chief, said Wednesday at a conference hosted by Bank of America. At the same time, Ford plans to develop more variations of certain model lines, such as the Bronco SUV, because they offer 30% or greater profit margins compared to the base model, Baumbick said. Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley has said the automaker's product lineup and vehicle architectures are too complex and too costly. Ford is driving to cut billions from operating costs after 2022 profits fell short of investor expectations. Ford is also "rushing to add capacity" to build more Maverick compact pickup trucks, he said.
[1/2] Soccer Football - Premier League - Chelsea v Liverpool - Stamford Bridge, London, Britain - April 4, 2023 Chelsea's Reece James scores a goal that is later disallowed Action Images via Reuters/Andrew CouldridgeApril 5 (Reuters) - Liverpool have called for an end to "vile chants" about the Hillsborough Stadium disaster after they were heard during Tuesday's goalless Premier League draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The 1989 FA Cup semi-final was the scene of Britain's worst sporting disaster when 97 Liverpool fans lost their lives after a crush in an over-crowded and fenced-in enclosure. "We know the impact these vile chants have on those who continue to suffer as a result of football tragedies. The Premier League said it condemned the "tragedy chanting" at the match. "We continue to treat this as an unacceptable issue and are seeking to address it as a priority," it added.

MANCHESTER, England, April 2 (Reuters) - Manchester City have condemned the actions of individuals responsible for causing damage to Liverpool's team bus on their return journey following Saturday's Premier League clash at the Etihad. City, who won the game 4-1, said an object was thrown towards the bus in a residential area. Greater Manchester Police said they had launched an investigation after reports of criminal damage and said there were no injuries, adding that the bus continued with its journey. "Incidents of this kind are totally unacceptable, and we strongly condemn the actions of the individual(s) responsible," City, the reigning league champions, said in a statement. City also said the club were disappointed to have heard "inappropriate chants" from their fans during the game.
Chelsea sack Potter with club 11th in Premier League

April 2 (Reuters) - Chelsea have sacked manager Graham Potter, the London club said on Sunday after a string of poor results left the team 11th in the Premier League. "Graham has agreed to collaborate with the club to facilitate a smooth transition," Chelsea said in a statement. "In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter final ahead. Potter is the 12th manager to be sacked in the Premier League this season and the announcement came hours after relegation-threatened Leicester City parted ways with Brendan Rodgers by mutual agreement.
"Nothing changed," Guardiola said after his 100th win at Etihad with City. The club made an exceptional signing with him – he's a world champion alongside Lionel Messi because he has something." His fitness is unclear, although TV cameras caught him on his feet wildly celebrating Alvarez's goal. The City manager pumped his fists wildly after Alvarez's goal and then confronted Liverpool substitutes Kostas Tsimikas and Arthur Melo when they walked by him on the sidelines seconds later. "Manchester City are disappointed to have heard inappropriate chants from home fans during today's game," the team said.
MANCHESTER, England, April 1 (Reuters) - Manchester City showed they can win without goal machine Erling Haaland as they put four past Liverpool at the Etihad on Saturday to keep their chase of Premier League leaders Arsenal very much alive. Julian Alvarez, Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish were all on target for Pep Guardiola's side in a goal-packed return to Premier League action after the international break. "We had a chat between ourselves and with the manager (at halftime) and he said we have to stay in the game," Grealish said. "The first minute to 93 ... really really good, the way we played." Looking ahead though, the England winger insisted that the fate of the Premier League this season is still in Arsenal's hands.
Jesus at the double as Arsenal steam on towards title
  + stars: | 2023-04-01 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
Jesus, starting a league game for the first time since returning from a knee injury last month, converted a 35th-minute penalty after being clipped in the box by Luke Ayling. Ben White doubled Arsenal's advantage from Gabriel Martinelli's pass before Brazilian Jesus, signed from Manchester City last summer, struck again from close range in the 55th minute from Leandro Trossard's assist. Leeds had troubled Arsenal in the opening period but once Jesus put the hosts ahead it was relatively plain sailing as they restored their eight-point lead over champions Man City. The most important thing is that everyone that has come in has played good," Jesus said. His persistence and trickery earned Arsenal a nerve-settling penalty on Saturday as he jinked into the box and Ayling, rather unluckily, conceded the spot kick as Jesus tumbled.
Arsenal's seventh successive league win moved them to 72 points from 29 games with City, who still have to play the London club at home, on 64 having played one game less. Jean-Philippe Mateta's late goal sparked jubilation amongst the home fans as Palace moved into 12th place with 30 points, five points ahead of third-from-bottom Leicester. Pressure is intensifying on Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers as his side lost for the fifth time in six league games. Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers drew 1-1 at the City Ground as both clubs stayed far too close to the relegation zone for comfort. The result took both teams above Liverpool with Brighton in sixth place and Brentford in seventh.

REUTERS/Phil Noble/File PhotoMarch 22 (Reuters) - The U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday said it will release guidance next week on sourcing requirements for electric vehicle battery tax subsidies under President Joe Biden's climate change law, the first in a string of highly anticipated rules to determine how broadly the credits can be used. It will also issue guidance on selling tax credits and making them refundable, which allows entities without tax liability to use them. The IRA specifices, for instance, that a $7,500 EV tax credit is only available to North American-assembled vehicles that meet certain local battery production and mineral extraction processing standards. In December, Treasury decided not to issue proposed guidance on battery sourcing rules until March, effectively giving some EVs not meeting new requirements a few months of eligibility in 2023 before battery rules take effect. The other half requires manufacturing or assembly of at least 50% of battery components in North America.

Leeds will head into the international break above the relegation zone thanks to a superb display at Wolves.
British passport officers to take five weeks of strike action

LONDON, March 17 (Reuters) - Most of Britain's passport office workers will go on strike for five weeks starting next month in a pay dispute, potentially disrupting the delivery of passports ahead of the summer holiday period. Passport officers in Belfast, Northern Ireland could also strike if they vote in favour of walking out in a ballot that closes on Friday. The PCS union has demanded a 10% pay rise for civil servants as UK inflation is now running at just over 10%. Passport officers had previously rejected a 2% pay rise. The government's passport offices are the sole issuer of UK passports, issuing over 5 million of them each year, meaning any strike by officers working there will likely cause significant disruption to services.

Authorities in Liverpool want the river to be home to a huge tidal power project which, they say, could power as many as 1 million homes, generating thousands of jobs for the region in the process. Speaking to CNBC, Martin Land, director of the Mersey Tidal Power Project, outlined how the system would work in practice. Tidal barrage systems in operation today include EDF's 240 megawatt La Rance tidal power plant in France, and South Korea's 254 MW Sihwa Lake tidal power plant, currently the world's largest. The agreement, it added, would see "K-water and the Combined Authority working closely together to explore possibilities for tidal power." "Once operational, Mersey Tidal Power would have the potential to become the world's largest tidal power scheme," he said.
