Consumers won’t get that sort of care if they buy drugs online without seeing a health care provider.

A college student visiting the Grand Canyon died after an accidental fall near a scenic overlook, park officials said Thursday. The park service said it is investigating the incident with the local medical examiner’s office and no additional details were immediately available. At Grand Canyon National Park, which has recorded millions of visitors annually for decades, there were 14 deaths in the same period. While Michigan, Washington, Minnesota, Texas and California already had laws regulating deepfakes, Minnesota updated their law this year to require a candidate to forfeit their office or nomination if they violate the state’s deepfake laws, among other provisions. In states such as New York, New Mexico and Alabama, victims can seek a court order to stop the content. Katie Hobbs signed his proposal into law in May, along with another AI bill that requires disclosures in campaign ads. Big Tech has already taken some steps to moderate deepfake content. TikTok and Meta (the parent company of Instagram, Threads and Facebook) announced plans in recent months to label AI content, while YouTube requires creators to disclose when videos are AI-created.

CNN —The US Secret Service protective detail of Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff was involved in an incident Tuesday in which a man caused damage to two of her protective detail’s vehicles in New York City. The man was detained by USSS with New York authorities putting him in police custody. “Secret Service Agents quickly detained the individual until local authorities arrived and placed the individual into police custody,” Byrne said. “At no point was any protectee in danger as a result of this incident.”Spokespeople for the vice president and second gentleman did not immediately respond to CNN’s request for comment. It’s not the first incident involving a USSS protectee’s vehicle.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s remarks to the annual Bitcoin conference on Saturday were delayed for about an hour after two individuals were removed from the premises for “not following proper entry protocols,” the United States Secret Service said. The two individuals were credentialed, the Secret Service said, adding that there was no “protective interest with these individuals.”The agency determined there was “never a threat to the former president,” a Secret Service spokesperson told CNN. The former president ultimately took the stage alone and no indication of a potential security issue was relayed to the crowd. The actions of the Secret Service that day led to bipartisan condemnation of the agency and the resignation of USSS Director Kimberly Cheatle. A Wall Street analyst did just that – and said the car almost crashed. The experience of WIlliam Stein, an analyst with Truist Securities, is not unique; others have also reported problems with Tesla’s full self driving, or FSD, feature. The acting Secret Service director told senators on Tuesday that the agency failed on July 13 by not having a countersniper focused on the roof where a would-be assassin fired eight shots at former President Donald J. Trump, injuring him and others and killing a rally attendee. While Ronald L. Rowe Jr., the acting director, provided a more complete account of what happened that day than his predecessor did a week ago, he failed to answer a critical question about that day: Who was supposed to be watching that roof? In one of his first actions as acting director, Mr. Rowe said he went to the site of the shooting in Butler, Pa., and specifically to the warehouse roof that the gunman used, which had been unmanned and apparently unwatched. Mr. Rowe said he climbed onto the building and lay on the roof so he could see the direct line that the shooter, later identified as Thomas Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa., had to Mr. Trump.

New York CNN —A US safety regulator announced Tuesday that it voted unanimously to hold Amazon responsible for faulty or unsafe products sold by third-parties on its website and app. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, tasked with ordering companies to recall dangerous products sold in America, said it found more than 400,000 defective products sold on Amazon’s platform that the online retailer now must recall or face legal consequences. The ruling today underlines the CPSC’s crackdown on products it views as unsafe. The agency first sued the mega-retailer in 2021, when it said it was cracking down on Amazon because it has limited ability to force a recall of foreign products. Amazon claims in a statement when it was notified about the potential safety issues, it “swiftly notified customers, instructed them to stop using the products, and refunded them.”CNN’s Chris Isidore contributed to this report.
