Choi continued breaking while navigating corporate America. Olympics.com reported that breakers' moves fall into three elements: top rock, down rock, and freezes. Top rock refers to moves done while standing, such as a Crossover Step or an Outlaw Two-Step, while down rock refers to the moves done on the floor that we commonly associate with this style of dance. "It adds this element of surprise because the thing is, we don't even know what's going to happen, so how could the audience know what's going to happen?" Choi said breaking is also different from other sports because it doesn't have "a traditional history of having coaches."

AdvertisementBy 49, I was doing life coaching and successfully running my businesses. Even though it was idyllic — the perfect retirement spot — I quickly got bored sitting around doing nothing. I retired at 52I decided that retirement wasn't going to look like a permanent vacation by the beach, but it entailed endless time to do whatever I wanted. Although I enjoyed what I was doing, doing it forever didn't feel like all it was cracked up to be. My new retirement plan is to continue doing the work I enjoy so much for as long as I can.

Nirmala Sitharaman, India's finance minister, leaves the ministry to present the budget at the parliament in New Delhi, India, on July 23, 2024. India's finance ministry on Tuesday lowered the country's fiscal deficit target to 4.9% for the financial year ending March 2025, a revision from 5.1% during the pre-election interim budget published back in February. That target will then fall to 4.5% or lower for the financial year ending March 2026, India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said during the announcements. "This is imperative for attracting foreign investment and sustaining growth," he said, adding that "unprecedented financial support" from the central bank will make the fiscal deficit target possible. "We will endeavor to maintain strong fiscal support for infrastructure over the next five years, in conjunction with imperatives of other priorities and fiscal consolidation."

Meta on Tuesday announced the latest version of its Llama artificial intelligence model. Nvidia is a key Meta partner and provides the social networking giant with the computing chips called GPUs to help train its AI models, including the latest version of Llama. For example, Meta said that Llama model announced on Tuesday was trained on 16,000 of Nvidia's H100 graphics processors. But open-source models can cost hundreds of millions or billions of dollars to create. The Biden administration, along with congressional Democrats, broadened access to health insurance by temporarily beefing up the federal premium subsidies for Affordable Care Act policies. Providing middle class tax reliefAs a senator, Harris proposed providing middle-class and working families with a refundable tax credit of up to $6,000 a year (per couple) to help keep up with living expenses. Harris also campaigned on the measure – titled the LIFT the Middle Class Act, or Livable Incomes for Families Today – during her earlier presidential run. Like Trump, Harris proposed allowing the federal government to set “a fair price” for any drug sold at a cheaper price in any economically comparable country, including Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Japan or Australia. As California’s attorney general, Harris joined other states in pursuing several drugmakers for their pricing or practices, winning multimillion-dollar settlements.

Before last week’s Republican convention, Donald Trump seemed to be moving away from the populism that characterized his 2016 campaign. “He’s defending big business, cozying up to billionaires, and wooing C.E.O.s.”When Mr. Trump named Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate, though, pundits quickly concluded that he was doubling down on populism. In his convention speech, Mr. Vance denounced NAFTA and China trade deals and promised to prioritize American workers over multinational corporations. On the other hand, in a long interview with Bloomberg (conducted in late June) that came out after the announcement of Mr. Vance’s selection, Mr. Trump hardly sounded like a firebrand economic populist. He floated the idea of reducing corporate tax rates to 15 percent and said he’d consider the JPMorgan Chase C.E.O., Jamie Dimon, as a potential Treasury secretary.

Overstock.com is back from the dead

New York CNN —Overstock.com, which was one of the biggest names in e-commerce, is being revived just a year after its new owners ditched the name in favor of Bed Bath & Beyond. The relaunched Overstock.com sells a lot of stuff similar to its previous incarnation, including indoor and outdoor furniture, home improvement tools and jewelry, but with a bigger emphasis on closeout and liquidation deals. Its sister site will still use the Bed Bath & Beyond name and continue to operate with a refined focus on home goods and as a destination for registries for weddings and other life events. In June 2023, Overstock.com changed its name to Bed Bath & Beyond after Overstock’s parent company bought the bankrupt retailer’s brand’s name and domain in a failed effort to benefit from its name recognition. The changes didn’t catch on with shoppers, prompting major moves within the company’s management ranks.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman speaks during the Microsoft Build conference at Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington, on May 21, 2024. OpenAI last week removed Aleksander Madry, one of OpenAI's top safety executives, from his role and reassigned him to a job focused on AI reasoning, sources familiar with the situation confirmed to CNBC. Madry will still work on core AI safety work in his new role, OpenAI told CNBC. The decision to reassign Madry came less than a week before a group of Democratic senators sent a letter to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman concerning "questions about how OpenAI is addressing emerging safety concerns." Leike wrote in a post on X that OpenAI's "safety culture and processes have taken a backseat to shiny products."

A one kilogram gold bar sits on top of silver bars at London bullion dealers Gold Investments in London, United Kingdom, on April 4, 2013. Gold prices firmed on Monday as the dollar eased following U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, with investors turning to bullion as a hedge against an uncertain political and market outlook. Spot gold rose 0.2% at $2,405.40 per ounce, as of 0510 GMT, while U.S. gold futures gained 0.3% to $2,407.20. The prospect of rate cuts and political uncertainty in the United States are supporting gold prices, and conditions are in place for gold to see another record high before the end of 2024, said Kyle Rodda, a financial market analyst at Capital.com. Among other metals, spot silver fell 0.5% to $29.11 per ounce, platinum slipped 0.3% to $959.99, while palladium rose 1.1% to $916.18.
