CNN —Alice Stewart, a veteran political adviser and CNN political commentator who worked on several GOP presidential campaigns, has died. Law enforcement officials told CNN that Stewart’s body was found outdoors in the Bellevue neighborhood in northern Virginia early Saturday morning. She went on to serve as the communications director in then-Arkansas Gov. Most recently, Stewart was the communications director for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s 2016 GOP campaign. David S. Our money was worth more back then, so we got more value for our Canadian dollar when we went shopping in the States. She was an American living in Atlanta and said, "Hey, why don't you come and spend the winter with me?" It almost seemed like Canada was 10 or 20 years behind, progressive-wise — and I don't mean politically. The amenities, the shopping, the food, and the restaurants in Canada are way behind if you're outside Vancouver or Toronto. CNN —The Biden administration plans to speed up court cases for some recently arrived migrants who are seeking asylum, marking the latest move to address arrivals at the US-Mexico border, according to senior administration officials. The Department of Homeland Security and Justice Department announced Thursday a new court docket targeting migrants who have unlawfully crossed the US southern border. Cases can often take years because of an immigration court backlog, prompting the effort to set up a process intended to expeditiously work through cases. A former diversity manager at Facebook and Nike was sentenced to five years and three months in prison for stealing more than $5 million from those companies that had been earmarked for DEI initiatives, federal prosecutors said. Georgia resident Barbara Furlow-Smiles, who pleaded guilty to wire fraud in the case in December, stole more than $4.9 million from Facebook "utilizing a scheme involving fraudulent vendors, fake invoices, and cash kickbacks," Atlanta U.S. Attorney Ryan Buchanan said in a statement. "After being terminated from Facebook, she brazenly continued the fraud as a DEI leader at Nike, where she stole another six-figure sum from their diversity program," Buchanan said. Furlow-Smiles, 38, used the money she stole "to fund a luxury lifestyle in California, Georgia and Oregon," according to Buchanan's office, which had asked a judge to sentence her to 6½ years. New York CNN —Uber wants to make it cheaper to get a ride to the airport, concerts or sporting events. The rideshare company on Wednesday announced the launch of Uber Shuttle, an offering that will let users book up to five seats in a shuttle from a central location to an event or the airport – for less than the cost of a regular Uber ride. The cost of the shuttle rides won’t be affected by surge pricing, a common affliction when lots of people are looking for rides at the same time. Uber has previously rolled out early shuttle tests, including in India, and as an offering for corporate customers. Uber Shuttle will let riders book up to five seats in a shuttle to the airport or a concert or sporting event, for less than the cost of a regular Uber ride.
