Last week, the IRS announced that it would begin sending out letters to over 9 million people and families who qualify for tax credits, but haven't collected them because they didn't file taxes. "The IRS wants to remind potentially eligible people, especially families, that they may qualify for these valuable tax credits," IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said in a statement. "We encourage people who haven't filed a tax return yet for 2021 to review these options. Between the expanded child tax credit, earned income tax credit, and third stimulus check, families could get over $10,000 if they claim their credits, according to Adam Ruben, director of the Economic Security Project. The letters come as debate over whether to restart the child tax credit begins to pick up yet again.

But there's one thing that's just a little silly about it: the $99 optional Apple Pencil requires a dongle to charge and pair with the new iPad. Unlike the iPad Air, iPad Pro and iPad Mini, the new iPad only supports the first-generation Apple Pencil. But since Apple made the move from a Lightning port to USB-C, you can't just stick the Apple Pencil into the iPad's charging port to juice it up. You'll plug the Apple Pencil into that dongle, and then plug the dongle into the iPad. So, just a word of warning to people who may already own an Apple Pencil, or who may be upgrading to the new iPad: prepare to spend another $9 if you want to use the Pencil with this iPad.

Around 10 million Americans may still be eligible to receive a Covid-19 stimulus check, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). Individuals with little to no income, who are not required to pay taxes, can complete a simplified tax return to receive compensation, says the agency. Americans who meet this criteria must fill out and submit the information by November 15. Additionally, taxpayers who didn't meet the deadline on April 15, now have an extension until October 17. Those who may qualify can fill out and submit a tax return on the Internal Revenue Service's site.
I know I'll need passive income to support myself if I want to retire early. I asked financial planners who work with millionaires which passive income streams are most lucrative. That's why financial planner Darren Colananni says it's one of the most common passive income streams among millionaires. "You can get a tax deduction on the rental income by depreciating the property," which means deducting the cost of buying or improving a rental property, says Colananni. Social Security, collected strategicallyA passive income stream that most American workers get when they retire, Social Security, is one that millionaires also bank on, according to financial planner Scott Sturgeon.
The Job Creators Network just filed a lawsuit attempting to block Biden's student-loan forgiveness. It's at least the fifth conservative lawsuit seeking to halt the debt relief. The group argued the policy was decided in secret with the goal of implementation before the midterms. By blocking this inflationary taxpayer bailout, JCN's lawsuit can lay the groundwork to actually solve the student debt crisis by holding its college perpetrators accountable." The other is suing because her commercially-held student loans do not currently qualify for Biden's loan forgiveness.
The drag show at a Tennessee pride festival will go on Saturday — but not in the way organizers had planned it. Darin Hollingsworth, a Jackson Pride Committee member, said organizers were “horribly disappointed,” because they know local LGBTQ youths would have felt supported at the drag performance. “But we will be in contempt if we even allow parents to bring in their child, so we won’t.”Hollingsworth said the pride event had been in the works for a year, and Jackson Pride had advertised it repeatedly. The event began to face backlash after a Sept. 17 Facebook post from Republican state Rep. Chris Todd. As a result, the Jackson Pride Committee decided to move the festival, including the drag show, into the Civic Center and to increase security measures by, among other things, having a metal detector.

The IRS skipped about $3.7 billion in advance child tax credit payments for 4.1 million eligible households, but sent more than $1.1 billion to 1.5 million filers who didn't qualify in 2021, according to an audit released Tuesday by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. Justin Thomas on LIV's rankings gripe: 'It's their fault'
  + stars: | 2022-09-21 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY SportsJustin Thomas understands why LIV Golf players are fighting hard to receive world rankings points for their events, but he strongly disagrees with their stance. "I don't understand," Thomas said when asked about LIV's petition at the Presidents Cup on Tuesday. But that's their own fault for making the decision they made, and they knew very, very well going into it there's a good chance they won't have World Ranking points, and they took that risk. Billy Horschel will make his Presidents Cup debut this week on the United States team along with Thomas. "To my eye, it seems like they should get World Ranking points," he said.
