CNN —A federal judge ordered Friday that the trial in the classified documents case that special counsel Jack Smith brought against former President Donald Trump begin in May 2024. The restaurant industry already has the highest number of child labor law violations, according to the Economic Policy Institute. At an event at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., the group had something of a soft launch of its potential third-party bid for the presidency when Senator Joe Manchin III, Democrat of West Virginia, and Jon Huntsman Jr., the former Republican governor of Utah, formally released No Labels’ policy manifesto for political compromise. The three-year average of heat-related worker deaths has doubled since 1990, a 2021 report from NPR and Columbia Journalism Investigations revealed. According to federal data reported between 2017 and 2022, the Department of Labor fines businesses governed by federal OSHA regulations an average of just $8,539.98 if an employee dies because of heat-related illness. Gleason also noted that federal OSHA fines for worker deaths are significantly smaller than that of other federal agencies. You need to make over $650,000 to be considered in the top 1%, according to new data. Most states had a higher income floor this year than last year, though New York stayed stagnant. New data released Thursday from financial information company SmartAsset broke down how much money people need to make to be among the top 1% of highest earners in each state. This map shows how much you need to make in each state to break into this elite demographic. A news release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday further revealed real average hourly earnings rose by 0.2% month over month in June.

Sen. Joe Manchin appears to have the least diverse staff of any Democratic senator. A Senate diversity survey found that 0% of his staff identify as LGBTQ, and just 12% are non-white. According to an annual survey of diversity among Senate Democratic staffers released this week, just 12% of the conservative West Virginia Democrat's staffers identify as non-white — the lowest of any Senate Democratic office. And in a stark contrast from the rest of the Democratic caucus, 0% of his staffers identify as LGBTQ, according to the survey. When it comes to gender diversity, Manchin also ranks low among the rest of his colleagues: 46% of his staff are women.
