Cinci state membre ale UE au început să emită de joi, 1 iulie, certificate digitale ale UE privind COVID, iar alte 21 de state membre, dar și Norvegia, Islanda și Liechtenstein au început să facă acest lucru înainte de 1 iulie, data la care a intrat în vigoare Regulamentul privind certificatul digital al UE privind COVID. Acum putem confirma că sistemul certificatului digital al UE privind COVID este operațional. Marea majoritate a statelor membre ale UE sunt deja conectate la sistem și sunt pregătite să emită și să verifice certificatele. La 17 martie, Comisia Europeană a prezentat o propunere de creare a unui certificat al UE privind COVID pentru a facilita libera circulație a cetățenilor, în condiții de siguranță, pe teritoriul UE în timpul pandemiei. Conectarea în timp real la portal a tuturor celor 30 de țări membre ale UE și SEE s-a realizat în termenul stabilit, și anume 1 iulie.
