Disney's networks went dark on Sept. 1 after the two sides could not agree to terms on fees and bundle structures. DirecTV called Disney anti-consumer, and ESPN Chairman Jimmy Pitaro called the responses DirecTV made to Disney's package offers "basically hypotheticals." The amount of customers DirecTV lost during the dispute was not "immaterial," said DirecTV Chief Marketing Officer Vince Torres at Goldman Sachs' Communacopia & Technology Conference on Thursday. Maui fire commanders discussed the forecast, but “no evidence of pre-event preparedness plans by the MFD were produced,” the report said. The minister said that in addition to the Americans, two Spanish citizens and one Czech citizen were arrested. A US State Department spokesperson said a member of the US military had been arrested in Venezuela, and said the department was “aware of unconfirmed reports of two additional US citizens detained” in the country. “Any claims of U.S. involvement in a plot to overthrow (Venezuelan leader Nicolas) Maduro are categorically false,” the spokesperson added. A person was shot and and suffered a life-threatening injury Thursday after tackling a pro-Israel demonstrator in Newton, Massachusetts, the district attorney said. A member of the demonstrating group, a 47-year-old man from Framingham, then shot that person, she said. Asked at a news conference if the person shot was anti-Israel or pro-Palestinian, Ryan said, "I think it’s too soon to get into that." The person who was shot, who has not been identified by authorities, sustained injuries that are life-threatening and was at a hospital Thursday night, Ryan said. New York CNN —Former President Donald Trump said Friday that he is not selling shares in his controversial social media company, an announcement that sent the stock prices skyrocketing. Trump and other insiders in Truth Social owner Trump Media & Technology Group will be free to sell shares as soon as next week when lock-up restrictions are set to expire. In late afternoon trading, Trump Media was up 19%. Regulatory filings indicate the lock-up period will expire as soon as the closing bell on September 19 if the closing share price remains above $12. Trump is the dominant shareholder in the Trump Media, owning 57% of the outstanding shares.

Six years later, sports betting has exploded across the United States, as 38 states have legalized it. The bill addresses three key areas tied to sports betting: advertising, affordability and artificial intelligence. It would mandate gambling operators ensure customers who wager more than $1,000 can afford to do so. "The gambling industry is following a playbook developed by the tobacco industry and this is a direct threat to public health," said Richard Daynard, a law professor and president of the Public Health Advocacy Group at Northwestern. The sports betting operators, meanwhile, are fighting back and saying the industry has brought benefits.
