"Girl Math" is the humorous TikTok trend where users justify expenses with tricks. "Girl Math" may just be "Buy Now, Pay Later" in disguise, the experts said. "To me, the popularity of the "Girl Math" trend indicates a lot of pent-up guilt around our purchases," said Barrow. That's why it's important to disclose when "Girl Math" is humor instead of fact, said Sara Samuels, a wealth management advisor at Northwestern Mutual. CNN —Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee, who is presiding over the Georgia election subversion case against former President Donald Trump and 18 other co-defendants, will hold his first hearing Wednesday afternoon amid questions of how soon a trial could begin. The hearing could provide key insight into how much evidence Fulton County prosecutors have in their case against Trump and his allies who are accused of interfering in Georgia’s 2020 election results to try to flip the state away from Joe Biden. All 19 defendants charged in the sprawling Fulton County racketeering case – including Powell and Chesebro – have pleaded not guilty and waived their right to an in-person arraignment. Last week, Chesebro’s legal team filed a separate motion asking the Fulton County judge not to force him go to trial alongside his co-defendant Powell. Willis has said she wants to keep the case together and hold one massive trial for all the defendants beginning in October.

REUTERS/Florence Lo/Illustration Acquire Licensing RightsSept 5 (Reuters) - A post Labor-day rush of bond issuance by U.S. investment-grade-rated companies added renewed pressure on long-end U.S. Treasuries, as some investors switch to buying top-rated corporate debt offering higher yields than those on government bonds. Investors told Reuters they expect anywhere between $100 billion and $150 billion in new bond issuance this month. Ten-year Treasury bond yields were last about nine basis points above Friday's market closing, at 4.27% from 4.180%, and 30-year yields similarly climbed about 9 bps to 4.38% from 4.285% on Friday. Other factors have also contributed to the selloff, from higher government bond supply to rising concerns around U.S. debt sustainability, as highlighted by Fitch’s downgrade of U.S. debt last month. "For right now, it’s just all about supply, and I think that’s what’s pushing yields higher," he said.

CNN —Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows and five other defendants charged in the election interference case in Fulton County pleaded not guilty Tuesday and waived their arraignments in new court filings. Jeffrey Clark, a former Justice Department official who is similarly seeking to move his case to federal court, also pleaded not guilty in a court filing. Fortescue founder toys with reverse greenwashing

First the $43 billion iron ore miner’s CEO, Fiona Hick, left abruptly on Sunday, barely six months after joining. But in trying to shrug off the mounting exodus, founder and Executive Chair Andrew Forrest, also known as Twiggy, introduces a new risk: reverse greenwashing. His approach to the energy transition is forcing a lot of change on the company in short order. That process surely would have involved rigorous discussions to ensure they were on board with Forrest’s goals and methods. That makes his absolutist twist to climate spin as unhelpful as the more traditional form of greenwashing.

Does the MIND Diet Prevent Dementia?
  + stars: | 2023-08-31 | by ( Alice Callahan | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
What is the MIND diet? The MIND diet was first described in a 2015 study led by Martha Clare Morris, a nutritional epidemiologist at Rush University, who died in 2020. The MIND diet is unique, however, in that it calls for at least six servings of leafy greens and two servings of berries each week. Does the MIND diet benefit the brain? But these studies can’t prove that the MIND diet itself leads to better brain health.

CNN —The Fulton County, Georgia, judge overseeing the sprawling 2020 election interference racketeering case against former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants says that all proceedings in his courtroom related to the case will be livestreamed and allowed to be televised. The ruling, however, would be subject to change and would not apply to any portions of the case moved to federal court. In a court hearing Thursday, Superior Court of Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee, who was assigned the case, said he would make all hearings and possible trials available to be broadcast on the Fulton County Court YouTube channel. McAfee’s ruling is limited to the Fulton County state case. District Attorney Fani Willis argued in her new brief that such a finding would not be sufficient for the case to be moved.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsLONDON, Aug 29 (Reuters) - Bitcoin's gains from a U.S. court ruling that bolsters future prospects for retail investor-friendly funds have rescued the original cryptocurrency from a dismal month, offering new optimism over its longer-term outlook. The win for Grayscale is likely to now factor into the SEC's future decisions for spot bitcoin ETFs filed by several major financial firms this year, including the world's largest asset manager BlackRock (BLK.N), investors said. Any advent of spot bitcoin ETFs could help the crypto industry tap a glut of previously untapped retail investor cash, in turn bolstering the price of bitcoin. Still, bitcoin's prospects remain tied to the performance of wider markets, some investors said.

The Canadian dream-pop band Alvvays played first; its last album, “Blue Rev,” was one of my favorites of 2022, and I especially love this fuzzed out, gently melancholic second track. Tanya Tucker: “Delta Dawn”When I traveled to the Gorge in Washington earlier this summer to catch Brandi Carlile’s Echoes Through the Canyon festival — and, you know, a certain very, very special headliner — I was lucky enough to catch an early evening set by the country icon Tanya Tucker. My first favorite part was when Tucker uncorked a bottle of her signature tequila and passed it around the front row. Each Highwoman played a solo cover during the set, and Shires wowed me with a poignant rendition of “Always on My Mind,” which she dedicated to Bobbie Nelson. Luckily, you didn’t just have to be there: The studio recording of the song, on which Nelson played piano shortly before she died last year, is gorgeous, and quite close to the version Shires played live.

Three Ukrainian pilots were killed Friday after a midair collision during a training flight. The catastrophe comes as Western allies have begun offering pilot training to Ukraine's troops. "Yesterday, a disaster occurred in the sky over Zhytomyr region," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a statement released Saturday, confirming the pilots' deaths. The training, which will be conducted at Morris Air National Guard Base in Tucson, Arizona, will begin in October.

The Biden administration on Thursday announced plans to begin F-16 pilot training for Ukrainian troops. The offering is a marked shift from Biden's original position of not providing F-16s or training. In February, he ruled out providing F-16s; by May, he supported allies supplying jets. Russia's superior air power has been challenging for Ukrainian troops to overcome.
