NEW YORK (AP) — A man was trapped inside a steel-reinforced concrete jewelry vault in New York City overnight after firefighters had to abandon an attempt to rescue him for safety reasons. Fortunately, the vault was on a timer and opened on its own Wednesday morning, officials said. Sarrocco did not explain how the man became trapped. Fire and police department personnel were in communication with the man inside the vault and could watch him on a security camera. “The process was started to breach the wall at the vault,” he said in a news conference at the scene.

Federal prosecutors have accused 10 people of orchestrating a $20 million scheme to “get rich” by buying and selling black-market H.I.V. medications that in some cases had been purchased from low-income patients who risked their lives by selling it. Some of those accused in the case then used the proceeds to buy luxury cars, waterfront real estate in New York City, designer clothes, jewelry and gold, according to a statement released Friday by Damian Williams, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. According to a 24-page indictment filed in Federal District Court in Manhattan, the scheme also involved bribing patients to use specific local pharmacies that were involved in the plot and defrauding Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance companies of millions of dollars since 2017. In a storefront window in Warsaw, Poland, stood at what first glance appeared to be a mannequin in a mustard-colored sweatshirt. Only it was not a mannequin, but a 22-year-old man. Once the store closed, the man leaped into action, stealing jewelry, according to the Warsaw police. It will most likely be his last meal at the shopping center for some time. The police have arrested the man and charged him with theft and burglary, they said in a statement on Wednesday.

A total of 35 gold foil figures have been found at the Hov temple site. The remains of the Hov temple were uncovered in 1993 along with two gold figures. The five latest pieces uncovered were buried under the temple's walls and within post holes of the structure, leading researchers to believe the gold figures were placed there intentionally. CNN —Customs workers at a Minnesota airport discovered a traveler had brought a unique souvenir in her luggage: Giraffe feces. “The passenger declared giraffe feces and stated she had obtained the droppings in Kenya and planned to make a necklace,” the release stated. The agency’s agriculture specialists “seized the box, and the excrement was destroyed via steam sterilization” according to protocol, the release said. The agency noted Kenya experiences African Swine Fever, Classical Swine Fever, Newcastle disease, Foot and Mouth disease, and Swine Vesicular Disease. Giraffes inhabit 27 of the 47 counties in Kenya, according to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation.

“The Missing Thread, Untold Stories of Black Fashion” is filled with photos like this, as the showcase dives deep into the history of Black British culture from the 1970s to the present day — specifically, how it has been a forgotten influence on the fashion industry. British Jamaican photographer Vanley Burke has spent over 50 years documenting Black British communities in Birmingham. London-born photographer Jennie Baptiste is another artist getting her dues in "The Missing Thread." At the center of the exhibition is the work of Black British designer Joe Casely-Hayford, who died in 2019. Casely-Hayford was nominated for Womenswear British Designer of the Year in 1989 and also Innovative Designer of the Year in 1991.
