Job seekers often churn out what can feel like endless applications, going for gigs that might not even exist. And I think with job interviews, how much can you really gauge from a résumé or a cover letter?" Another parallel he sees: Fake job listings that feel like the dating equivalent of catfishing. "I've found getting a job easier than getting a date," one Reddit user posted. "I keep getting spammed on LinkedIn with job offers from recruiters despite setting my status to not looking for a job.

The ultra-discount retailer Temu bought an eye-popping three $7 million Super Bowl ad spots. NEW LOOK Sign up to get the inside scoop on today’s biggest stories in markets, tech, and business — delivered daily. Though not quite a rebranding, this pronunciation is new for the two-year-old e-commerce site, which aired its first (single) Super Bowl commercial last year. Wall Street is forecasting a better backdrop for companies that want to go public. While lower rates can stoke the IPO market, fewer rate cuts because the economy remains strong with cooling inflation should still be viewed as favorable. The IPO market and mergers and acquisitions (M & A) activity started to sour when the Fed began hiking interest rates back in March 2022. A strong IPO market overall is expected to also benefit burgeoning biotechnology firms, which would mean more business for Danaher. Something similar exists among those swiping for love on dating apps. In the past year, Ali Jackson, a 36-year-old dating coach in Brooklyn, has been struck by how many people have come to her asking about “hacks” they have seen online, which they believe will help them overcome barriers between their profiles and true love. These are not really tips for dating but for outmaneuvering dating apps. On TikTok and Reddit, users recommend deactivating and reactivating your account, rejecting a string of attractive profiles or temporarily switching your location to a different city. Each of these moves, proponents say, could scramble the app’s algorithm into offering the user better options.

Shopify quietly announced a program last week where it will buy Google and Meta ads on behalf of its merchants. This new program, called Shop Campaigns, is the first time Shopify is providing full marketing services for its merchants. However, Shopify Audiences is only available to Shopify's large enterprise merchants to help supplement their existing ad campaigns. Shopify claims that Shop Campaigns have helped brands like Thrive Cosmetics and Caraway acquire more than 1 million customers. He compared Shopify Campaign to Meta's now defunct Audience Network, where Meta placed ads on publishers' websites outside of Meta.

Generative AI Neural networks are the heart of the increasingly popular type of AI known as generative artificial intelligence , or gen AI for short. Both traditional AI and gen AI systems rely on data and can be used to automate decision-making tasks. Microsoft's AI virtual assistant Copilot — which went live in November — is perhaps the most prominent generative AI feature among our portfolio companies. Bias Bias is another downside to AI systems — and LLMs in particular — that users need to consider. While GPUs have the upper hand in AI training, CPUs are understood to perform AI inference well.

There's an ideological gap widening between Gen Z's young men and women. Half of young men also believe they face some kind of discrimination, and less than half identify as feminists. Sharing the data, journalist and lawyer Imani Gandy commented on the pattern, saying: "YouTube algorithms are turning young men into sociopaths." "Women are going to rise up and women are going to take over everything and feminism is awful and women hate us," Stein said. "If you're being rewarded by the algorithm and by the platform you're creating on, you're going to probably keep doing it," she said.

The IPO market is looking very shaky and confronted with a host of challenges that are holding it back. Regardless, recent IPO performances have been poor across the board. IPO investors cheered the advance by bidding up the Renaissance Capital IPO ETF (IPO), a basket of recent IPOs, in December, assuming the IPO market would open up. CNBC's Jim Cramer, speaking early Thursday on Squawk on the Street , highlighted another obstacle for IPO buyers: investors are getting comfortable returns elsewhere with far lower risk. When David Faber asked why the IPO market was off to such a slow start with the markets so strong, Cramer replied, "I think it's the five percent solution," he said, referring to the ocean of money still sitting in money market funds.
