☆ DTC brands are struggling to turn a profit. Shopify and some software startups aim to solve this by paying customers to shop.

Some are leaning away from the heavy discounting and confusing rewards programs of the past and instead turning to new tech that offers customers cash back for shopping. Keith Rabois' OpenStore is launching a new accelerator program for Shopify merchants. OpenStore, Keith Rabois' Shopify aggregator startup , is launching another offering for Shopify merchants. The new program, called OpenStore Boost, is an accelerator for Shopify merchants generating between $50,000 and $500,000 in net sales annually. The company has since launched OpenStore Drive , which allows Shopify merchants to pass off the day-to-day operations of their store while retaining full ownership of the business. In June, OpenStore launched a website where shoppers can browse products from all of the brands in its portfolio.

In Apple's latest iOS developer beta, the end call button has moved back to the middle of the screen, as seen by CNBC on Tuesday. Apple has moved the end call button back to the middle of the screen in the the newest developer version of iOS 17 released on Tuesday. However, in the most recent developer beta, the red end call button is centered vertically, in the middle of three buttons close to the bottom of the screen. The new photos take up most of the screen during a phone call, so Apple moved the buttons to the bottom. Apple has also moved where push notifications appear to the bottom of the iPhone's screen in recent years.

REUTERS/Mike Blake/File PhotoAug 14 (Reuters) - Netflix (NFLX.O) will test games on select TVs and computers in a first step to make them playable on more devices, the company's vice president of Games Mike Verdu wrote in a blog post on Monday. The streaming platform had begun its push into the gaming experience by launching Netflix games on mobiles in November 2021. "Oxenfree" from Night School Studio, a Netflix Game Studio, and "Molehew's Mining Adventure", a gem-mining arcade game, will be part of the initial testing. "By making games available on more devices, we hope to make games even easier to play for our members around the world," Verdu said. Netflix said games on TV will operate on select devices from initial partners Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV and Roku devices, among others.

Apple used to dominate the K-12 education market. By missing out on schools, Apple is losing the unique relationship it once had with students. Long before music was part of Apple's DNA and computers were something to be strapped to one's face, Apple was the de facto standard for K-12 education. Apple's share of the K-12 education market has been under siege since at least 2017 , when low-cost Windows computers and Google's affordable Chromebooks with its suite of cloud apps, began to own the market. But maybe more importantly, Google now owns the K-12 market because Apple appears to be uninterested in it.

Washington CNN —A judicial order forcing Apple to change some of its app store terms will not need to take immediate effect while litigation over the decision plays out, Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan said on Wednesday, handing a temporary defeat to opponents of the company. The order is a setback for “Fortnite”-maker Epic Games as Apple appeals a lower-court ruling that found the iPhone-maker had violated California competition law. Epic Games declined to comment on Kagan’s decision, which occurred in the Supreme Court’s so-called “shadow docket” and was not referred to the full court. The appeals court temporarily paused enforcement of the injunction while Apple appeals the ruling to the Supreme Court. But last month, Epic Games filed an emergency request to the court calling for the order to be put into effect immediately, saying the public would otherwise be harmed by Apple’s practices.
