PARIS, June 10 (Reuters) - Pressure will be immense on Sunday when Novak Djokovic faces Casper Ruud in the French Open final with a record-breaking 23rd men's Grand Slam title and his position in the pantheon of tennis at stake. In 2021, Djokovic was on the brink of completing a calendar slam -- winning all four majors in the same year -- but was beaten in straight sets in the final in New York by Daniil Medvedev. "You remember the U.S. Open final he had with Medvedev after beating me in the semis still. "I put myself in another really ideal position to win a Grand Slam," said Djokovic, who will also snatch the world number one spot from Spain's Alcaraz if he lifts the Musketeers Cup. With the fickle French Open crowd often backing the underdog, Djokovic might face a few jeers, but he could not care less.

Saturday’s women’s French Open final proves to be an intriguing one for many reasons, in particular because each player’s recent experiences offer tantalizing narratives. Muchová has had to overcome countless battles with injuries while Świątek has skyrocketed to become a three-time grand slam winner. She has slowly climbed back to her best and has enjoyed a remarkable run at this year’s French Open. In the final, with just a victory between her and a French Open title, this is familiar territory for the Pole. Although she’s familiar with the situation, Świątek said a lot had changed since her first French Open title three years ago.

On May 25, 2005, Liverpool and AC Milan contested the Champions League final at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium, which also hosts this year’s showpiece between Manchester City and Inter Milan. What happened in the second half, however, made the 2005 Champions League final the mother of all “I was there” moments. Rafael Benítez’s men emerged for the second half looking like an entirely different team, one full of belief that played with courage and purpose. “I think the most asked question is: ‘What happened at half time?’” Hyypia said. We have to give the fans something to cheer about in the second half, many of them have traveled a long way – even in cars to Istanbul to support us.

Levi's has run a worker savings program since 2015 but in recent years has participated in BlackRock's initiative. When new employees get hired at the Levi's store in Lone Tree, Colorado, there's one job perk for them that really stands out, says store manager Debbra Ward — a company emergency-savings program that includes a match. If store workers save $40 per month, Levi's will match that with another $40 per month; in addition, they get a $20 sign-on bonus. But even after it ends, Ward expects the workers who have enrolled will continue to participate after they have built a habit of savings. Levi's has been running a program to help workers boost their emergency savings since 2015.

Tesla stock charges upwards on deal with GM

Both Ford and GM EV drivers will, for now, need special adapters to allow their vehicles to use Tesla chargers. Tesla’s charging system had been proprietary and only usable by Teslas – although Teslas could use CCS chargers with an adapter. But CEO Elon Musk announced in late 2022 that he was inviting other automakers and charging companies to use Tesla’s charging system and design standards. Tesla’s NACS chargers outnumber CCS chargers in the United States by a factor of two to one, according to Tesla. Other automakers, such as KIa, Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes and Volkswagen, still use the CCS charging standard and have not announced any plans to change.

The Spaniard has been inspiring fear and dropping jaws at Roland Garros, and his take-no-prisoner approach faces the ultimate test on Friday in his semi-final clash against Novak Djokovic, who at 36 is hanging on to his dream of claiming a record-breaking 23rd men's Grand Slam title. The two-times French Open champion has been his usual metronomic self on the Parisian clay, where his defence system will come under heavy fire against Alcaraz. The 22-time Grand Slam tournament champion struggled to find his timing early on, with the wind gusting as day turned to night. But as the light faded the wind did too, and Djokovic cruised, finishing off the steady Fucsovics, 7-6 (2), 6-0, 6-3, in two hours and 44 minutes. But as it is so often with Djokovic, what is happening on the tennis court this week is only a fraction of the story. He didn’t even have to worry about his main nemesis, with Rafael Nadal missing this year’s French Open, a tournament he has won 14 times, because of an injury. Djokovic continues his usual march toward the second week of the tournament — though the top-seeded Carlos Alcaraz may pose trouble.

Ukrainian drone sparks fire at Russian refinery - governor
  + stars: | 2023-05-31 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +5 min
MOSCOW/KYIV, May 31 (Reuters) - A Ukrainian drone sparked a fire at an oil refinery in southern Russia and shelling hit a Russian town close to the border for the third time in a week, damaging buildings and setting vehicles ablaze, Russian officials said on Wednesday. The Afipsky refinery is not far from the Black Sea port of Novorossiisk, near another refinery that has been attacked several times this month. There was no immediate information on who launched the drone but Moscow has accused Kyiv of increased attacks inside Russia in recent weeks, while Russia has repeatedly pounded Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles. Russian drone attacks killed one person and wounded four in Kyiv on Tuesday, according to Ukrainian officials. Civilian targets in Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities have since the earliest days of the war been struck repeatedly by Russian drones and missiles.
