The stock exchange operator's actions come amid a surge in the shares of Chinese companies that raise small amounts, typically $50 million or less, in their IPO. Nasdaq started asking the advisers of small Chinese IPO candidates questions in mid-September. Seven sources who work on IPOs of small Chinese companies spoke to Reuters on the condition that neither they nor their clients be identified. LOOPHOLESNasdaq's intervention underscores how liquidity standards it adopted in the last three years to prevent stock manipulation in small IPOs have loopholes that Chinese companies are exploiting. While bitcoin's price is stuck lately, there is one good thing to come from it for investors betting on crypto to become a legitimate asset class: It's less of a wild ride. After hovering in the $19,000 level for more than a month, bitcoin's volatility is now lower than that of both the Nasdaq and S&P 500, according to Kaiko. (Though bitcoin's correlation with stocks has eased, it remains high and its price continues to be driven by macro themes.) "Bitcoin volatility is at multi-year lows while equity volatility is only at its lowest level since July," Clara Medalie, head of research at Kaiko, told CNBC. The data suggests that cryptocurrency markets are less reactive to volatile macro events than they were earlier on in the year, whereas equity markets have remained highly sensitive."
Ancient rock carvings that are believed to be more than 2,700 years old have been unearthed by a team of archaeologists in Iraq's northern city of Mosul. The marble slabs were found during restoration work on the Mashki Gate, an ancient monument that was partially destroyed by Islamic State militants when they captured the city in 2016. The relief carvings show scenes of war from the rule of Assyrian kings, in the ancient city of Nineveh, the Iraqi State Board of Antiquities and Heritage said in a statement Wednesday. The gray stone carvings date to the rule of King Sennacherib, in power from 705 to 681 B.C., the statement added. The discovery was made last week by an Iraqi team, alongside American experts from the University of Pennsylvania who are helping to lead the reconstruction effort.

CAIRO, Oct 18 (Reuters) - Iraq's foreign ministry said late on Tuesday that it refuses any threatening or pressuring policy, reiterating its support for OPEC+ and Saudi Arabia after the alliance's decision to cut oil production by 2 million barrels per day caused a rift between Washington and Riyadh. The ministry added in a statement carried by the state news agency that it calls for "resolving any disagreement related to this case through the natural means and in the context of a direct and balanced dialog". As yields rose from just under 4% Tuesday morning, the stock market rally lost some steam. That should help stocks rally into year end, but he expects the yield to rise again next year, challenging the market. But he is encouraged by the strength of the rally and says there's a chance this could be the start of a new bull market. "You could always side conservatively and assume it's a bear market rally," he said. But he is also watching the market day-to-day, and expects it is in a bear market rally, rather than a new bull trend.

CAIRO Oct 16 (Reuters) - OPEC+ member states lined up on Sunday to endorse a steep production cut agreed this month after the White House, stepping up a war of words with Riyadh, claimed Saudi Arabia had pushed some other nations into the move. Iraq, OPEC's second largest exporter, said the decision was based on economic indicators and was taken unanimously. The cut came despite oil markets being tight, with inventories in major economies at lower levels than when OPEC has cut output in the past. But some analysts have said recent volatility in crude markets could be remedied by a cut that would help attract investors to a market that was underperforming fundamentals. Oman's energy ministry said OPEC+ decisions were based purely on the realities of market supply and demand.

Newly elected Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid has named Mohammed Shia al-Sudani as prime minister-designate and tasked him with forming a new government in Baghdad, Iraq, October 13, 2022. Rashid, 78, was the Iraqi minister of water resources from 2003-2010. Sudani, 52, previously served as Iraq’s human rights minister as well as minister of labour and social affairs. Putin's strategy is failing because he has "little effective internal challenge," per a UK intel chief. The remarks come after Putin launched a major bombardment of Ukrainian cities and facilities. The Russian leader has surrounded himself primarily with people who share his mindset, making internal challenges to his thinking exceedingly rare. Putin framed this as retaliation for an attack on the Kerch Strait Bridge over the weekend, state media reported. On Saturday, Putin named a notoriously brutal commander, Sergei Surovikin, to lead Russia's assault on Ukraine.
Oct 11 (Reuters) - Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) announced on Tuesday it will be pushing back the release dates for numerous upcoming Marvel films including, "Blade," "Fantastic Four" and "Avengers: Secret Wars." Following "Blade" director Bassam Tariq's departure from the project in September due to scheduling conflicts, Marvel has decided to temporarily shut down production of the film to search for a new director. "Blade" is now slated to premiere on Sept. 6, 2024 instead of Nov. 3, 2023, which has impacted the rest of the studios' production scheduling. The Marvel Blade character who first appeared in comic book "The Tomb of Dracula," written by Marv Wolfman in 1973 eventually had his own storyline that was later adapted into the Wesley Snipes film trilogy which includes, "Blade," "Blade II" and "Blade Trinity.”Throughout the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse, stories have been intertwined and a significant delay from one film often impacts the slate for others. Investors may be fleeing the sector in droves, but Barton Crockett, senior research analyst at Rosenblatt Securities, said the sell-off is an opportunity for long-term investors to buy the dip. One such "winner" that Crockett likes is Alphabet , which he described as a "good story" that will be "here today and tomorrow." But the stock has outperformed all its peers in the FAANG (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google) grouping except Apple . 'Be choosy' Despite the challenges of the current investing climate, Crockett said investors should remain exposed to tech. "You have to have the fortitude to ideally absorb some of the near-term gyrations for a long-term return," he said.
