PARIS, July 24 (Reuters) - Luxury giant LVMH (LVMH.PA) unveiled on Monday a deal to sponsor next year's Olympic Games in Paris with top fashion brands Louis Vuitton and Dior, Moet Hennessy champagne and spirits labels and jeweller Chaumet, which will design medals for the event. The group will also sponsor athletes, including French swimmer Leon Marchand, and its beauty retailer Sephora will sponsor the Olympic torch relay, LVMH said. Terms of the deal, which was negotiated by Antoine Arnault, one of the five children and heirs of LVMH Chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault, were not revealed. "The Games are an opportunity to make France shine," Antoine Arnault said as he made the official announcement. The run-up to an Olympic Games can become mired in global geo-politics and controversies over domestic matters can attract scrutiny, such as China's rights record ahead of the Beijing Games.

July 21 (Reuters) - Apollo Global Management Inc (APO.N) co-founder Leon Black paid $62.5 million to the U.S. Virgin Islands to avoid any legal claims tied to a Jeffrey Epstein sex-trafficking investigation, the New York Times reported on Friday. The Times obtained a copy of the settlement agreement from the Virgin Islands government through a public records request. A spokesperson for Black confirmed in an emailed statement to Reuters that Black had settled with the Virgin Islands, noting that there was no suggestion in the settlement "that Mr. Black was aware of or participated in any misconduct." The spokesperson went on to say that, as previously known, Black had paid Epstein for "legitimate financial advisory services" and that Black had "resolved the (Virgin Island's) potential claims arising out of the unintended consequences of those payments." A New York state judge in May dismissed a lawsuit accusing Black, 71, of defaming a woman by falsely claiming she tried to extort him after accusing him of rape, which he denied.

Brent futures were flat at $79.63 a barrel by 0800 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude edged 10 cents lower to $75.65 per barrel. "With the Fed likely to raise interest rates for the last time in July, concerns about U.S. demand that will limit oil price gains are likely to remain," said CMC Markets analyst Leon Li. GRUENHEIDE, Germany, July 18 (Reuters) - Tesla (TSLA.O) on Tuesday sought to assuage Brandenburg state residents' concerns by holding a question-and-answer session on the EV maker's planned expansion that would make its local plant the biggest car factory in the country. Tesla, which currently produces around 5,000 cars a week, hopes to double the plant's production capacity to 1 million vehicles a year and add 50 gigawatt hours of battery production capacity, though it has not provided a timeline. While Volkswagen still holds the highest EV market share in the region, Tesla is making its mark. Tesla has long argued that the plant's impact is relatively low and referred to the benefits of EVs in combating climate change. At JPMorgan, the nation's largest bank, average deposits fell 6% in the second quarter to $2.4 trillion from a year earlier. The central bank reported total bank deposits fell 1.2% to $17.26 trillion through the week ended June 28 versus $17.47 trillion at the end of March. The German filmmaker Christian Petzold’s spiky and at times mordantly funny “Afire” is a tonic for moviegoers tired of nice, squishable, likable, relatable dull and dull characters. Yet while the writer is boorish, he’s never insipid; he’s pleasurably bad company. One of the most reliably interesting and surprising filmmakers working today, Petzold makes sharp, visually intelligent, psychologically sophisticated movies. There, the men will be alone while Leon waits for his publisher and Felix readies an art-school portfolio. When they arrive, though, they find that the mother has invited a third, a stranger to the men named Nadja (Paula Beer).

The Mexico nearshoring play is real, but investors should be aware of some pitfalls. Nearshoring — also called reshoring, onshoring, inshoring or backshoring — is helping drive Mexican stocks higher this year. For U.S. companies, there are compelling advantages to moving operations to Mexico from Asia, including geographical proximity, as well as low labor costs. "There is no nearshoring industrial revolution without electricity," according to a March note where Lippmann discusses Mexico's need to revamp its electricity infrastructure. According to Nace, the firm is the largest auto insurance company in Mexico, "similar to a Progressive in the United States.

Results for investment banking behemoths will also weaken, with EPS forecast to drop almost 59% at Goldman Sachs (GS.N). That offsets the doldrums in investment banking, where revenues have been depressed by rising interest rates and economic uncertainty. “The UK’s standing in the world has long been defined by its closeness to America,” a US administration official told CNN. “After Brexit, under Boris (Johnson) and (Liz) Truss, the UK was just so needy. US officials deny that this is true, but that they say they are aware of its significance in Europe.
