By 2006, he'd earned an associate degree in computer information systems and a bachelor's degree in computer science. A college degree helped him eventually land a high salaryWhen he first enrolled in college, Houde didn't have any idea what he would major in. In 2016, about a decade after he graduated with his bachelor's degree, he decided to pursue an MBA. Have you found financial success without a college degree?

Eli Lilly on Thursday reported a home-run quarter fueled by sales of its blockbuster obesity and diabetes drugs, quieting any lingering investor concerns in the stock. Eli Lilly Why we own it: Eli Lilly's best-in-class drugs should enable growth above the industry average for many years to come. The report left little doubt that Eli Lilly's best days are ahead, driven by the growth of GLP-1s. It's really early" for Zepbound, Eli Lilly CEO David Ricks said in a CNBC interview Thursday. But the good news is Eli Lilly's multibillion dollar investments to expand manufacturing capacity are paying off.

DORA requires banks, insurance companies and investment to strengthen their IT security. The EU regulation also seeks to ensure the financial services industry is resilient in the event of a severe disruption to operations. These IT providers often deliver "critical digital services to customers," said Joe Vaccaro, general manager of Cisco-owned internet quality monitoring firm ThousandEyes. This has made banks and other financial services providers more vulnerable to cyberattacks and other incidents. DORA will focus more on banks' digital supply chain — which represents a new, potentially less comfortable legal dynamic for financial firms.

Pelvic floor issues are commonOverall, nearly a quarter of women in the United States develop pelvic floor issues, according to the National Institutes of Health. Regular physical activity is essential for overall health and can be safely maintained with proper modifications and attention to pelvic floor health. Why focus on pelvic floor healthGiven the prevalence and impact of these issues, maintaining pelvic floor health is vital to a good quality of life. But here’s the good news — pelvic floor health can be improved with the right care at the right time — sooner rather than later. And Kegels, which strengthen pelvic floor muscles, aren’t the only essential pelvic floor exercises.

Shipping giant Maersk, considered a barometer for global trade, is not seeing signs of a U.S. recession as freight demand remains robust, the company's chief executive said Wednesday. "We've seen in the last couple of years, actually, [the shipping container] market remaining surprisingly resilient to all the fear of recessions that there has been," Vincent Clerc told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" Wednesday, adding that container demand was generally a good indicator of underlying macroeconomic strength. The last week has seen a sudden escalation in worries about a recession in the world's biggest economy, the U.S., following a set of weaker-than-expected jobs data which has divided economists and market participants. U.S. retail trade inventories — a measure of unwanted build — in May were up 5.33% from a year ago at $793.86 billion, according to the most recent release from the U.S. Census Bureau. A report released by leasing platform Container xChange on Wednesday said indicators suggest inventories are higher than demand, meaning a less "prosperous time" in the coming months for container traders, the logistics market and retailers who stockpiled.

The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage after the national supply fell by more than 25% since July 1. The organization said Monday that extreme temperatures and oppressive heat waves impacted almost 100 blood drives last month, in almost every state where the Red Cross collects blood. Blood donations typically slow down during the summer because of travel and other seasonal activities, but the Red Cross said extreme heat exacerbated the challenge, contributing to a shortfall of more than 19,000 blood donations in July. Type O blood is routinely in short supply because type O positive is the most common blood type, and type O negative is the universal blood type needed for emergency transfusions. Those who donate by Aug. 31 will receive a $20 Amazon gift card, the Red Cross said.

SEOUL, South Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the delivery of 250 new tactical ballistic missile launchers to front-line troops, state media KCNA reported on Monday, which Seoul said could be used to threaten South Korea. The launchers have been described by state media as a modern tactical attack weapon personally designed by Kim and ready to be transferred to Korean People’s Army units on the border with the South. North Korea said it test-fired a new tactical ballistic missile last month. In a speech, Kim blamed the United States for creating a “nuclear-based military bloc” that forced his country to further strengthen military capabilities. A spokesperson for Seoul’s unification ministry handling inter-Korean affairs said North Korea’s illegal nuclear and missile programs were the primary threat to peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.

That future loomed like a long, dark tunnel ahead: middle school. AdvertisementMy memories of middle school colored my fears for my sonI remembered my own middle school years as both fun and fraught. In middle school, I jumped on an external validation treadmill that became very hard to get off, eventually losing touch with my own wants and needs. The author, middle, was worried when her son started middle school. The night before school started, I sat in the living room unboxing, unpackaging, organizing, and arranging.

The United States spent $43 billion annually on screening to prevent five cancers, according to one of the most comprehensive estimates of medically recommended cancer testing ever produced. The analysis, published on Monday in The Annals of Internal Medicine and based on data for the year 2021, shows that cancer screening makes up a substantial proportion of what is spent every year on cancer in the United States, which most likely exceeds $250 billion. The researchers focused their estimate on breast, cervical, colorectal, lung and prostate cancers, and found that more than 88 percent of screening was paid for by private insurance and the rest mostly by government programs. For Karen E. Knudsen, the chief executive of the American Cancer Society, the value of screening for the cancers is clear. It’s the right thing to do for individuals.”

A renewed spotlight on protecting access to birth control may not help women who are already struggling to find affordable contraception in some states with the strictest abortion laws. Few community clinics have the amount of money needed to cover birth control each month, McCollum said. But over-the-counter birth control pills haven’t reached many women in rural areas. Because of the Texas policy change an estimated one-quarter of family planning clinics in the state closed by 2013. “If someone does not have insurance, we can pay for their visit and their birth control method,” McCollum said.
