LONDON — European markets were poised to open higher Monday as investors digest U.S. inflation data and look ahead to another busy week of earnings and central bank meetings. The pan-European Stoxx 600 closed higher on Friday as a global stock selloff eased and investors reacted to a U.S. personal consumption expenditures price print that came in in line with expectations. The slew of earnings releases continues this week, with Heineken, Philips, Pearson and Associated British Foods all reporting during the session. Asia-Pacific markets climbed on Monday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 leading gains in the region as the U.S. inflation print raised hopes for a rate cut. U.S. stock futures, meanwhile, were also higher ahead of a continued slew of corporate earnings stateside.

According to Bank of America, the most recent market pullback is a symptom of a "buffalo" market. Related stories"A buffalo market is still in the bull family," McGregor said. She expects that the buffalo market will roam around this summer before stabilizing into a bull market later this year. "We're expecting this earnings growth story to broaden beyond the Magnificent Seven in tech in the coming quarters." Bank of America believes small-caps could lead the stock market for the next ten years if interest rates come down and remain favorable.

A survey of over 2,000 content creators conducted by the influencer marketing agency NeoReach last year found that 48% of creators earned less than $15,000 a year. Since the money that influencers make sometimes isn't enough to sustain their lifestyles, they balance content creation with other jobs. AdvertisementThe typical US-based influencer is likely to be making less than six figures and creating content part-time, according to research, surveys, and influencer interviews. Most of these creators have smaller audiences, according to former influencer marketer Emmy Petit, who is now a full-time influencer. "The idea of full-time content creation is often more glamorous than reality," Mitchie Nguyen, a content creator based in New York, previously told BI .

A master's degree wasn't a prerequisite for a good job; my work during the internship earned me a job offer. I wish I had sought to get a job straight out of college. In hindsight, I realize the ideal time for an MBA is after gaining six to eight years of work experience. I also recommend getting a job or work experience whenever possible; it will teach you things that school won't. Take those risks, seize those opportunities, and remember there's no rush to pursue a master's degree.

American Airlines executives plan to lean on additional earnings from a recently revamped ticket distribution strategy as part of a turnaround strategy. AdvertisementThe disastrous policies cost the company $750 million in lost revenue during the first half of the year, American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said during the earnings call on Thursday. Investors who are camped out in cash are nabbing sweet yields, but the clock is ticking on that attractive income. Money market fund assets totaled $6.14 trillion as of the week ended July 24, according to the Investment Company Institute . The largest money market funds are offering an annualized 7-day current yield of 5.12%, per the Crane 100 Money Fund Index. "Investors must also remember that the liquid securities held in money market funds have maturities capped at slightly over a year," he said. While these short-term bonds may be an attractive alternative to hiding out in cash, investors should avoid making them the lion's share of their fixed income holdings.

As more commuters settle into flexible working arrangements, the traditional American 9-to-5 has shifted to 10-to-4, according to the 2023 Global Traffic Scorecard released in June by INRIX Inc., a traffic-data analysis firm. Its analysis shows fewer early morning trips and a higher volume of midday trips compared to pre-pandemic traffic patterns. Ridership sank during the pandemic, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis data shows, and never fully recovered. The result is a surge in traffic congestion throughout the peak midday and evening hours, according to Pishue. "Pre-Covid, the morning rush hour would be a peak and then the evening peak would be much larger," he said, describing two apexes with a valley in between.

Americans keep turning their backs on McDonald’s

CNN —Inflation has caught up with McDonald’s, and budget-conscious Americans are looking elsewhere for their fast-food fix. The tough environment for McDonald’s wasn’t limited to the United States: Sales at stores open for at least a year fell 1% globally. The plan focuses on value meal plans like the popular $5 meal introduced earlier this summer. He pointed to McDonald’s new emphasis on chicken, which is now on par with beef sales at restaurants. Whether or not that viral post was the final straw for McDonald’s customers, Americans have been punishing the company ever since.

Follow and ListenApple PodcastsSpotifyAmazon MusiciHeartRadioAbout The Crimes of Putin's TraderHosted by CNBC Senior Washington Correspondent Eamon Javers, this is the secret story of a young Russian oligarch who hacked his way to an illicit $93 million fortune...and the FBI team who finally brought him to justice. For generations, insider trading on Wall Street has been a crime of the American rich: the stereotype of corporate executives passing stock tips at country clubs was not far off. But new cyberwarfare techniques, and an aggressive anti-Western Putin regime in Moscow have turned this kind of insider corruption into an attack from the outside on the American economy itself, with profound implications for all of us who have retirement accounts, investments, or work in corporate America.

Twenty years ago, when I was 35, I left my life in the greater Boston area to pursue a job opportunity in glamorous Milan. I was on a permesso di soggiorno (residence work permit), which allowed me one year to find another job. With a few months left on my permit, I received an offer to work for a U.S. multinational with offices in Italy. I was so glad that I hung in there and bet on myself and my life in Italy. Ultimately, I learned valuable things about my peers and the business over a relaxing meal or coffee.

China has, in its own way, signaled it wants to support specific kinds of consumer purchases. Authorities on Thursday announced the equivalent of 300 billion yuan ($41.5 billion) in special bonds would go towards trade-ins and equipment upgrades — a significant expansion of an existing program. The 300 billion yuan ultra-long bond issuance is not a new government allocation, but rather a more detailed designation of a 1 trillion yuan ultra-long bond program announced earlier this year. "300 billion yuan is the largest equipment upgrade subsidy from the central government historically," the analysts said. Even the 300 billion yuan figure is split roughly between consumer-related trade-ins with business-side equipment upgrades.

Since then we’ve watched cracks spread throughout this edifice, dividing groups and institutions that once seemed to move in lock step. These fault lines include the split between a more ideological academic culture, where wokeness seems entrenched, and corporate and media realms, where its hold has somewhat weakened. They include the divisions between donors, university administrators and activists exposed and heightened by the Hamas attacks and the Israel-Gaza war. This means money: a surge of tens of millions of dollars into Democratic coffers. It means star power, whether through endorsements or just associations: Olivia Rodrigo and George Clooney, Charli XCX and Beyoncé.

While Trian has a history of being an active shareholder, the firm has also created tremendous shareholder value as an engaged director. CNN —The stereotypical “cat lady” is one of pop culture’s most bizarre characters — and easiest punching bags. And though Vance’s description of “cat lady” didn’t include “crazy,” madness has been associated with “cat ladies” for over a century. “There is something about the independence of cats, something I like about them, which can be linked with a suspicion of independent women,” said Alice Madicott, whose book “Cat Women” prods the “crazy cat lady” stereotype. Many women proudly reclaim ‘cat lady’So-called cat ladies have been reclaiming the term for more than a century. And since Vance’s comments resurfaced this week, “childless cat lady” is now appearing on new merchandise including bumper stickers and yard signs.

Since Harris kicked off her presidential campaign, there’s been a string of good news for the US economy. Harris will have Biden’s mostly strong economy to run on. By June 2021, Biden’s sixth month in office, the nation’s inflation rate jumped to more than 5%. After the Federal Reserve hiked interest rate hikes to a 23-year high to stamp out inflation, the economy — eventually — started to run at a slower pace. Work hours are more flexibleMany workplaces are flexible and allow employees to choose a schedule that fits their lifestyle. Some people, depending on the industry and their tenure at their job, can have up to 38 paid vacation days a year. For example, both parents are offered paid leave and they can decide when to use them in different amounts. If your kid is sick and you need to leave work to care for them, that is not just accepted but encouraged. In many cases, this can be considered a sick day for the parent as well and can be paid leave.

The GOP, under presidential candidate Donald Trump, could seek to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. In the abstract, one can argue that tax cuts and deregulation are good for business. However, further unfunded tax cuts would add to the nation's deficits and debt. He has also pushed for raising the corporate tax rate to 28%. Currently, that rate is at 20%, plus a 3.8% net investment income tax for high earners.
