“Back then, it definitely wasn’t cool to be into theme parks, but I was obsessed,” Jeffs, 39, tells CNN. Jeffs points to the immersive “Pacific Rim: Shatterdome Strike” ride at Trans Studio Cibubur, part of Indonesia’s largest theme park chain, as an example. “When I was growing up, theme park design was often dismissed as a rinky-dink, second-class artistic discipline simply because it was rarely well done. “That first summer, we drove 10,000 miles and hit up virtually any theme park that had managed to re-open,” he says. Several states, including Georgia, Idaho and most notably Florida, have passed varying laws making it easier to ban books and limit what American educators can teach. I am the president of a private, nonprofit university in Rhode Island, a state founded on the values of freedom and tolerance. The new laws censor their voices as well as those of their faculty and students. Proponents of these laws attempt to justify them by repeating claims that universities are places where political correctness runs rampant and students are intolerant of alternative viewpoints. Students should not ‌violate university policies and ‌shout down speakers they don’t agree with.
Last September, Larry Page's flying car company Kittyhawk, closed its doors. It was a stunning failure for what was once the vanguard of the eVTOLs (electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft) industry. The company was started in 2015 and explored a range of concepts for eVTOLs over its lifespan. In our exclusive story on the rise and fall of Kittyhawk, we revealed several of the company's ideas for new flying cars. Another of the ideas, an autonomous taxi named Wisk, is still alive as part of a joint venture with Boeing.
KT Thornton, Taco Bell's chief of equity, inclusion, and belonging, said she felt "fully embraced." Equity, inclusion, and belonging is a term we use across our entire Yum system. These possible selves, both positive and negative, are closely related to motivation. A person whose feared possible self is an alcoholic may become a teetotaler. And researchers have found that conjuring positive possible selves can improve well-being and alleviate symptoms of depression by holding out the potential for a better future. A possible self can take you beyond daydreams, which are often fleeting and not necessarily grounded in reality. It can come to fruition “if you build a bridge from your ‘now’ self to the possible self,” Dr. Markus said.
Offices are increasingly adding designated "quiet rooms" for employees to recharge, WSJ reported. Companies like Adobe now have a craft room and private music rooms for staffers. The spaces are the next evolution of the nap and meditation rooms made popular by tech companies like Google. Now, workplaces are installing "quiet rooms" designed to help staffers cope with over-stimulation from open offices in today's post-pandemic workplaces. But though many have left, none have returned — until a boy named Tutu sets out to find water to help his ailing mother. While on his quest through the desert, Tutu meets many strange people with many strange stories and, through them, uncovers dangerous truths. Invaders stealing the literal tongues of the invaded is such a powerful, resonant premise, one that accrues more layers as Tutu navigates the desert. In keeping with the contradictions at the book’s heart, it left me perfectly sated and hungry for more. A question recurs throughout the book, an attempt to explain the concept of a multiverse: How many numbers are there between 1 and 2?

CNN —Amazon wants investors to know it won’t be left behind in the latest Big Tech arms race over artificial intelligence. In a letter to shareholders Thursday, Amazon (AMZN) CEO Andy Jassy said the company is “investing heavily” in large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, the same technology that underpins ChatGPT and other similar AI chatbots. Since ChatGPT was released to the public in late November, Google (GOOG), Facebook (FB) and Microsoft (MSFT) have all talked up their growing focus on generative AI technology, which can create compelling essays, stories and visuals in response to user prompts. With that in mind, Amazon on Thursday unveiled a new service called Bedrock. It essentially makes foundation models (large models that are pre-trained on vast amounts of data) from AI21 Labs, Anthropic, Stability AI and Amazon accessible to clients via an API, Amazon said in a blog post.

It's an example of how some startups in Ukraine's dynamic tech sector are switching to pursue military projects. Pavlo Kartashov, director of the Ukrainian Startup Fund (USF), a government-backed organization that seeds technology startups, told Reuters his group resumed funding in October. Demand from the government has driven the shift to military technology, but most of the entrepreneurs who spoke to Reuters said that patriotic duty also played a role. "There are much more ideas in military technology," said Krasovsky, the founder and chief executive of Swedish-Ukrainian Sigma Software Group. Groups like the Polish-Ukrainian Start Up Bridge - a Polish-government backed venture - offer emerging Ukrainian tech companies small grants to fund basic business needs and a co-working space in Warsaw.
