Ten people were injured and nearly 1,000 were evacuated after an escalator caught fire at Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday morning, airport officials said. The escalator, in Concourse C of Terminal 8, started emitting smoke around 7:15 a.m., according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates the airport. The Fire Department and Port Authority police officers responded, and about 990 travelers were taken by bus to other areas of the terminal, according to the Port Authority. Eleven U.S. and international airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways and Japan Airways, use Terminal 8. American Airlines said that three of its 89 total departing flights from the airport on Wednesday had been canceled because of the evacuation.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note traded marginally lower at 4.237% at 4:50 a.m. ET, while the yield on the 2-year Treasury note fell less than 1 basis point to trade at 4.439%. Yields and prices move in opposite directions, and one basis point is equivalent to 0.01%.

Shares in the world's largest luxury group LVMH fell on Wednesday after its second-quarter sales came in below analyst consensus on Tuesday. Quarterly sales came in at 20.98 billion euros ($22.7 billion) in the second quarter, compared to the 21.6 billion euros LSEG analysts were expecting. Sales in Asia, excluding Japan, fell 14% in the second quarter from the same period a year earlier, LVMH said. Across the first half of the year, sales in Asia excluding Japan dropped 10% compared to the first six months of 2023, while sales in Japan rose by 44%, LVMH said. By business groups, wine and sprits revenue fell 5% in the second quarter of 2024 from a year earlier, and the watches and jewellery division declined 4% over the same time.

It is the fourth consecutive week of inventory declines. CNN —Insurers have begun calculating the financial damage caused by last week’s devastating CrowdStrike software glitch that crashed computers, canceled flights and disrupted hospitals all around the globe — and the picture isn’t pretty. The estimates come the same day that CrowdStrike issued a preliminary report on how it inadvertently caused the widespread IT meltdown. Numerous Fortune 500 companies use CrowdStrike’s cybersecurity software to detect and block hacking threats. Only a small portion, around 10% to 20%, may be covered by cybersecurity insurance policies, Parametrix added. The company routinely tests its software updates before pushing them out to customers, CrowdStrike said in the report.

Last year, Nepal saw its worst plane crash in more than 30 years when at least 68 people died when a Yeti Airlines flight went down near Pokhara.
