The partners said the proposed project would redevelop Times Square building 1515 Broadway into Caesars Palace Times Square, which will include a Broadway theater that will be home to "The Lion King" and other entertainment attractions. Earlier this year, Nike took legal action against online resale marketplace StockX for allegedly allowing sales of counterfeit versions of its sneakers.
The case centers on how courts decide when an artist makes "fair use" of another's work under copyright law. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the estate's appeal of a lower court's decision favoring Goldsmith. The Supreme Court's eventual decision could have broad or narrow implications for fair use depending on the ruling, Tushnet said. The Warhol estate told the Supreme Court the 2nd Circuit's decision "casts a cloud of legal uncertainty over an entire genre of visual art, including canonical works by Andy Warhol and countless other artists." Goldsmith's lawyers told the Supreme Court that a ruling favoring the foundation would "transform copyright law into all copying, no right."
Rocketing energy costs are savaging German industry

“We don’t need a crystal ball to see a further weakening of German industry in the coming months. The full impact of higher energy prices will only be felt in the last months of the year,” he said. Energy prices started rising last fall, and then shot even higher when Russia invaded Ukraine in late February, sparking an energy standoff between Europe and Moscow. Energy costs at Prysmian’s six German factories are expected to soar to €20 million ($20 million) this year from just €5 million ($5 million) in 2021. “German industry, the so-called ‘Mittlestand’, the small and medium [sized] companies, are quite resilient and adaptable,” he said.
The families of three children who survived the Uvalde, Texas, school shooting earlier this year are pursuing legal action in separate cases, as well. But survivors, victims, family members and gun law advocates see an opportunity to hold manufacturers and dealers liable by calling into question their sales and marketing practices. The Highland Park suits were filed in Lake County Circuit Court on behalf of the family members of people who were killed. The plaintiffs allege Smith & Wesson used deceptive marketing strategies to "appeal to the impulsive, risk-taking tendencies of civilian adolescent and post-adolescent males." CNBC reached out to Smith Wesson, Bud's Gun Shop and Red Dot Arms for comment.

A fracking rig flares gas during an anti-fracking protest by Greenpeace activists outside the Houses of Parliament in London, Britain February 9, 2016. REUTERS/Stefan Wermuth/FilesLONDON, Sept 22 (Reuters) - Britain on Thursday formally lifted a moratorium on fracking for shale gas that has been in place since 2019, saying strengthening the country's energy supply was an "absolute priority". Business and Energy Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg said all sources of energy needed to be explored, "so it's right that we've lifted the pause to realise any potential sources of domestic gas". Fracking, which involves extracting shale gas from rocks by breaking them up with water and chemicals at high pressure, was banned after the industry regulator said it was not possible to predict the magnitude of earthquakes it might trigger. The government said that ending the ban would allow drilling to restart and more data to be gathered, building an understanding of how shale gas can be safely extracted where there was local support.

Meanwhile, major tech companies continue to ramp up their federal lobbying spending, together spending more in 2021 than in any other year in history.

Twitch said it is planning to ban the streaming of certain crypto gambling websites in an effort to protect users from potential harm. The ban will prohibit streaming of sites including slots, roulette and dice websites that aren't licensed in the U.S. or "other jurisdictions that provide sufficient consumer protection". The policy change comes after some of the platform's top streamers threatened to stop using the platform if Twitch didn't change its policy on gambling streams. Twitch said the ban applies to sites including Stake.com, Rollbit.com and Duelbits.com and that it "may identify others as we move forward." Twitch's current community guidelines already prohibit streamers from referring viewers to sites that include slots, roulette or dice games or sharing affiliate links or referral codes to such sites.
Two dozen Republican attorneys general are urging Visa, MasterCard, and American Express to drop their plans to adopt a new merchant category code for gun retailers, saying the move would infringe on consumers' privacy. In a letter sent to the companies Tuesday, the attorneys general warn the credit card companies that they could face legal action if they move forward with the code adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). On Saturday, Senate Republicans sent a similar letter to the three credit card companies. The letters come after the credit card companies announced plans to start applying the new sales code to transactions made at gun stores. "A fundamental principle for Visa is protecting all legal commerce throughout our network and around the world and upholding the privacy of cardholders who choose to use Visa," Visa said in a statement last week.
