Ron DeSantis said Friday that the “theories” put out by former President Donald Trump and his associates following the 2020 election were “unsubstantiated” and “did not prove to be true.”“I’ve said many times, the election is what it is. All those theories that were put out, did not prove to be true,” DeSantis, a Republican presidential candidate, told reporters traveling on his Never Back Down bus tour in Iowa. I mean they’ve been trying to get him since he became president.”Previously, when asked about the 2020 election, DeSantis has pivoted and emphasized a focus on the future, not the past. I mean, that’s the formula for success.”Such a focus on the future is typical for DeSantis when faced with questions surrounding the 2020 election. At a New Hampshire town hall, DeSantis was asked by a high school student if Trump violated the peaceful transfer of power during the 2020 election.

According to the indictment, Trump ignored advisers who told him the election was not fraudulent and helped organize fake slates of electors to try to capture electoral votes in states he had lost. The Trump campaign issued a statement accusing the Biden administration of targeting him for political gain. Trump, the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges, has been indicted on three separate occasions this year. Strategists said that while the indictments could help Trump solidify support among Republican voters, who view the charges as bogus, they could prove more damaging among independent voters in the general election against Biden. Many Republican officials, unwilling to anger Trump’s substantial base of supporters, attacked Biden instead, claiming that the latest charges were politically motivated.

Emerson also saw better-than-expected profit margin performance and robust cash flow. Topping it all off, management raised their earnings outlook and sales growth forecast to ranges above what analysts had been expecting. As for cash flow, management offered up a slight increase to their full-year forecast, at the midpoint. Operating cash flow is now expected to be in the range of $2.5 billion to $2.6 billion (versus $2.63 billion expected) while free cash flow is expected to come in between $2.2 billion and $2.3 billion (versus $2.21 billion expected). This compares to prior operating cash flow and free cash flow targets of about $2.5 billion and roughly $2.2 billion, respectively.

More than a dozen Republican voters interviewed on Wednesday unanimously said the new charges would not affect their 2024 election choice. These voters seemed to accept Trump's contention that he is being targeted by Democrats because he is a political threat. "The only way I'd vote for anyone other than Trump is if Trump dropped dead before the primaries, and I don't see that happening," Silver said. The Republican voters who spoke to Reuters appeared unmoved by arguments by Trump's rivals that he likely would lose a November 2024 rematch with Biden.

DeSantis, in a written statement, conceded that he had not read the indictment but suggested that a jury in the nation's capital could not be fair to Trump. Entrepreneur and fellow candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who has gained ground in recent polls but remains well behind Trump and DeSantis, called the indictment "un-American" and said that if elected he would pardon Trump. Trump's most loyal supporters comprise about a third of the Republican electorate, giving other candidates reason to be cautious about criticizing him.

Former U.S. Vice President and Republican presidential candidate Mike Pence speaks at the Republican Party of Iowa's Lincoln Day Dinner in Des Moines, Iowa, U.S., July 28, 2023. Trump, working with six co-conspirators, pushed Pence to refuse to certify the results based on his accusations of voter fraud on multiple occasions, the indictment alleges. But the Vice President who had stood at Trump's side for four stormy years refused. In special counsel Jack Smith's 45-page indictment of Trump, Pence is a frequent participant in the narrative, which includes detailed recollections of private calls and conversations. The indictment describes Trump pressuring Pence to overturn or otherswise tamper with 2020 election results on a number of occasions in the weeks leading up to Jan. 6, including on Christmas Day 2020.

While he faces classic signs of a campaign in free fall, including staffer layoffs and donor concern, DeSantis’ problems are not all self-inflicted. Keith Davis, who has served as Sheriff of Wayne County since 1997, is a Trump voter who is now backing DeSantis. While he was in Iowa, DeSantis also repeatedly paid tribute to Reynolds after Trump alienated some caucus-goers by badmouthing the state’s popular Republican governor. Walgreens is now offering the respiratory syncytial virus vaccine for older adults nationwide, the pharmacy chain said on Tuesday. This is the first RSV season in which older adults have the option to get vaccinated against the virus. The Food and Drug Administration approved the first RSV vaccines, made by Pfizer and GSK, last spring. The virus kills 6,000 to 10,000 older adults and hospitalizes 60,000 to 160,000 every year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The RSV vaccines are now available in most states and appointments will be added on a rolling basis over the next two weeks as more pharmacies receive the shots, according to Walgreens.

"CNN's use of the phrase 'the Big Lie' in connection with Trump's election challenges does not give rise to a plausible inference that Trump advocates the persecution and genocide of Jews or any other group of people," the judge wrote in his decision. More intense summer heat resulting from emissions-driven climate change means animal heat stress that can result in billions of dollars in lost revenue for farmers and ranchers if not properly managed. But technology often insulates livestock in richer countries — another way global warming exacerbates the gap between wealthy and poor nations. Their cows are already showing signs of improved welfare, like chewing more cud, and there's more heat ahead this summer. "We're going to do what's best by our cows no matter what is or isn't going on with climate change," said Megan McAllister, a sixth-generation dairy farmer. Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks at a campaign event in Council Bluffs, Iowa, July 7, 2023. Federal prosecutors in a new court filing blasted a request by Donald Trump to be allowed to discuss classified information for his criminal case in Florida at home with his defense attorneys, outside of a specially secured room. "Defendant Trump's personal residences and offices are not lawful locations for the discussion of classified information, any more than they would be for any private citizen," prosecutors wrote. The filing noted that since the end of Trump's presidency in January 2021, neither Mar-a-Lago nor his summer residence at his Bedminster, New Jersey, club have been authorized locations to store, possess or discuss classified information. Prosecutors are proposing that Judge Aileen Cannon issue a protective order that would require Trump and his lawyers only to discuss classified information with each other with a so-called SCIF, or sensitive compartmented information facility, which is designed to prevent people not authorized to hear the information from doing so.

And while Mr. DeSantis’s stump speech in Chariton, Iowa, was shorter and more focused on what his priorities would be as president (the economy, immigration, challenging the federal government bureaucracy), he barely talked about the state or the town he was in. He still trails Mr. Trump in national polls by more than 30 percentage points. With all of this bad news, the campaign has shifted to a more guerrilla-style approach.
