Donor fatigue has come for Ukraine

Ukrainian officials say donor fatigue is now impacting their war effort. Ukraine officials say donor fatigue is a big part of the problem. "They would like to forget about the war, but the war is still ongoing, full-scale," Marchenko told Reuters on Saturday. AdvertisementAdvertisementUkrainian officials said they're also concerned that the war between Israel and Hamas could dilute future international support for Ukraine. Since Russia first launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, US lawmakers have approved about $113 billion in response.

REUTERS/Susana Vera Acquire Licensing RightsMARRAKECH, Oct 14 (Reuters) - Ukraine is finding it harder to secure financial support as the attention of officials in key donor countries shifts to upcoming elections and geopolitical tensions heighten, Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko told Reuters on Saturday. As the war with Russia rages on, Ukraine needs to secure Western financial support to cover a $43 billion budget gap in 2024. Marchenko said "a geopolitical shift and internal political context in different countries" was dampening governments' appetite to support Ukraine, mentioning elections scheduled in the U.S. and the European Union next year. Marchenko said Ukraine is seeking 18 billion euros of that in 2024, matching the package received for this year. Ukraine's economy is set to grow 5% in 2024, Marchenko told the meetings earlier this week, and sufficient gas storage for the winter should buttress the economy from a potential rise in prices, he told Reuters.

is recommending an updated Covid-19 vaccine, which is better matched to the currently circulating virus, for everyone age 6 months and older. Those with certain underlying health conditions — approximately 70 percent of American adults — and weakened immune systems also are at greater risk than younger, healthier Americans. What’s more, anyone who gets infected with Covid can develop long Covid, and I don’t want any American to experience that if it can be avoided. People with long Covid can have many ongoing symptoms — like extreme tiredness, shortness of breath and headache — that diminish their quality of life. For people with health insurance, most plans will cover the Covid vaccine at no cost.

That’s the true mark of a real milestone on this campaign,” Ramaswamy joked. For many voters in Iowa, the debate was their introduction to the 38-year-old candidate. A survey of potential Republican primary voters who watched the debate conducted by The Washington Post, FiveThirtyEight and Ipsos showed 26% of voters thought Ramaswamy won the debate, second highest behind DeSantis. Still, the Ramaswamy campaign said it raised $600,000 in the day after the debate, the largest single-day total since its launch. The Ramaswamy campaign plans to continue visiting Iowa and answering voter questions like Christensen’s around the state, Chapman told CNN.

Even Bill Gates thought school was boring as a kid. While in middle school, Gates didn't find learning "interesting," he recently said on his "Unconfuse Me" podcast, in an episode featuring Khan Academy CEO Sal Khan. But the teacher spotted potential, and took the opportunity to encourage Gates to put some effort into his education. Gates went on to develop his mathematics and coding skills in high school, before dropping out of Harvard University to co-found Microsoft in 1975. "I do think the AI will be like a great high school teacher who really marks your essay, and you go back and think, 'OK, I need to step up there,'" Gates said.

Tired after eating? Here’s why, and how to fix it
  + stars: | 2023-08-01 | by ( Kristen Rogers | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +7 min
The tendency to get tired after eating isn’t inherently suggestive of something amiss. If you had a meal high in fat — such as fried foods or pizza — that could make you feel tired. “That can really be an energy zapper.”Just like high-sugar foods, sugary drinks can also make you feel tired once the crash hits, Stefanski said. Choosing more balanced meals and snacks can help you feel less tired after eating, experts said. The test measures average blood sugar levels and shows how much glucose is attached to hemoglobin in red blood cells, Stefanski said.

Experiencing negative changes in workplace leadership and fairness was associated with the strongest long-term impact on a worker's sleep. LumiNola/E+/Getty ImagesSleep problems included initiating or maintaining sleep, poor-quality sleep and daytime tiredness two to four times a week that lasted one month to three months. Within a two-year period of time, over half of the participants (53%) reported changes in their workplace environment. However, if the changes at work were negative, sleep issues increased — in fact 1 in 4 people in the study with a worse job environment developed problems getting enough rest. Having negative changes in the leadership and fairness sector was associated with the greatest long-term impact on sleep, more than negative changes in coworker relationships or collaboration, the study found.
Summary Pontiff was hospitalised unexpectedly on WednesdayVatican says he has respiratory infectionNot clear if pope will be able to lead Easter servicesVATICAN CITY, March 30 (Reuters) - Pope Francis spent a peaceful night in a Rome hospital after suffering from a respiratory infection, a Vatican source said on Thursday. Bruni has said Francis would have to stay at Rome's Gemelli hospital for "a few days" for "appropriate" medical treatment. An official update on his condition was expected in late morning, the Vatican source said. Last year, the pope attended but did not preside at some of the Easter services due to his knee pain. Francis, who this month marked 10 years as pope, is sometimes short of breath and generally more exposed to respiratory problems.

"Pope Francis is touched by the many messages received and expresses his gratitude for the closeness and prayer," the Vatican said. The statement came hours after the pope was unexpectedly taken to hospital for tests. Earlier in the day, the pope attended his weekly general audience at the Vatican and had appeared in good health. Pope Francis suffers from diverticulitis, a condition that can infect or inflame the colon, and had an operation at the Gemelli hospital in 2021 to remove part of his colon.
Pope says Ukraine war fuelled not just by 'Russian empire'
  + stars: | 2023-03-10 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
VATICAN CITY, March 10 (Reuters) - The war in Ukraine is driven by the interests of several "empires" and not just of Russia's, Pope Francis said in an interview published on Friday. Francis said the conflict was fuelled by "imperial interests, not just of the Russian empire, but of empires from elsewhere". He expressed a readiness to talk to Russian President Vladimir Putin to call for peace. Extracts were published on Friday by Italian dailies La Repubblica, La Stampa and Corriere della Sera. I have less physical resistance, the knee (problem) was a physical humiliation, even if the recovery is going well now," he said.
In addition to stress and lack of sleep, it can be caused by the immune system creating an inflammatory response in the brain. As a neuroscientist, I study the causes of brain fog and forgetfulness. Even if you think you're relaxed, your body may be physically tense (e.g., stiff neck, back or shoulder pain). Box breathing is a simple way to help calm your brain. More than that can lead to a depressed mood, and less than that doesn't give the brain enough time to rest and reset.

Earlier this year, more than 70 companies in the UK began one of the largest-ever trials of a 4-day work week. Here, Ursell shares several key lessons he'd tell other companies considering a shortened work week. Preparation is vitalWe started talking about a four-day week more than four years ago. We also spoke to companies that were doing a four-day week and took their advice. The four-day week isn't a compressed work schedule but rather reduced hours, with the objective of being more productive, happier, and more focused.

REUTERS/Claudia Morales/File PhotoSANTIAGO, Nov 12 (Reuters) - With flavors ranging from bubble gum to passion fruit and TikTok stars promoting it, chewing coca has become the latest chic trend in Bolivia. Andean villagers have chewed coca leaves - the base ingredient of cocaine - for centuries to help ward off the effects of high altitude and hunger. Consumption of the leaves is legal in Bolivia and coca is considered by many in the region as a sacred plant. The regulator has now concluded that there is at least a "reasonable possibility" that heavy menstrual bleeding is causally associated with these vaccines. Menstrual disorders can occur due to a range of reasons, including underlying medical conditions as well as stress and tiredness. Health authorities have highlighted that cases have also been reported following COVID-19 infection.

Dads cherish Sweden’s parental leave

Story highlights Johan Bavman photographed fathers in Sweden, which has generous parental leave Sweden's policies encourage fathers to take just as much leave as mothersCNN —When photographer Johan Bavman became a father for the first time, he took more than a passing wonder about how his native Sweden is said to be the most generous nation on Earth for parental leave. Get this: Sweden grants a total of 480 calendar days of parental leave, with 390 of them paid at 80% of income, with a maximum of 3,160 euros a month or $3,474. Fathers have to share that leave with mothers. In reality, only 12% of Swedish couples equally share the 480 days of leave, Bavman said, with women continuing to lead the way as the stay-at-home parent and men as the careerist. Still, Bavman mused last summer about how the policy impacts those men who use the full measure of their parental leave.
