A white supremacist is accused of trying to destroy an electricity substation in Tennessee in an attempt to bring down the regional power network and disrupt American society, authorities said Monday. The theory was popularized by manifestos left by perpetrators in a number of high-profile neo-Nazi and white supremacist terrorist incidents, including the killing of 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2019. Philippi drove to an electricity substation, along with undercover FBI agents, to carry out reconnaissance, the bureau said. While driving, he ordered C-4 explosives from the undercover agents, and at a later date he bought black powder intended to be used in pipe bombs. Philippi was arrested on Nov. 2 by undercover agents acting as co-conspirators who had agreed to be lookouts.

A long-shuttered administration building at the struggling Knoxville College, a historically Black institution, was destroyed in a fire Monday night, officials said. Firefighters spray water on a building fire on the Knoxville College campus, in Knoxville, Tenn., on Monday. Knoxville College is a small historically Black college and university, or HCBU, founded in 1875. Frank Shanklin, Jr., a member of Knoxville College's board of trustees, told WBIR that the former administration building has not been used in the last 40 or 50 years. "We're going to keep fighting for Knoxville College," Shanklin said, adding that he hopes the city, county and people in the region keep it in their prayers.

At least 11 people were injured and around 100 homes were damaged as a result of a weekend of severe weather. A Massachusetts woman passed herself as a nurse and dispensed thousands of doses of phony Botox and other fillers that had been smuggled into the United States, authorities said. Since March 2021, Fadanelli "completed approximately 1,631 Botox appointments, totaling $522,869 in client payments, and 1,085 filler appointments, totaling $410,545 in client payments," federal prosecutors said. Fadanelli's attorney could not be immediately reached for comment on Monday. In an interview with agents Fadanelli said she never claimed to be a nurse and didn't make the injections, prosecutors said. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a warning in June, alerting consumers to "harmful reactions among people who received injections of counterfeit or mishandled" Botox.

The researchers found that reducing sugar consumption in this window decreased the type 2 diabetes risk by about 35% and the risk of high blood pressure by roughly 20%. The research team looked at data from before and after the end of the United Kingdom’s World War II-era sugar rationing in September 1953. When the rationing of sugar and sweets ended in September 1953, the average adult’s daily sugar consumption in the UK nearly doubled almost immediately, from about 40 grams to 80 grams. Corkins says one way for parents to reduce sugar consumption in young children is to change their own habits. The key is practicing moderation when consuming sugary foods.

ERWIN, Tenn. — Rescue workers in Tennessee said Friday they have recovered the body of the final person still missing after massive flooding from Hurricane Helene hit a plastics factory there. Rosa Andrade, 29, was one of six employees killed after they were unable to escape the rising waters around Impact Plastics in Erwin, a small town in East Tennessee. Normally running 2 feet deep, the river rose to a record 30 feet that day, with more than 1.4 million gallonso of water running downstream each second — twice as much as Niagara Falls. Relatives of some of those who were killed have sued Impact Plastics and its owner, Gerald O’Connor. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is probing the allegations involving Impact Plastics at the direction of the local prosecutor.
