Over the course of several days, The Associated Press interviewed a cross section of voters in Northampton County to ask whether Biden's messaging around the fate of democracy was resonating. These voters represented parts of the very coalition Biden will need to win Pennsylvania again — Black voters, Latinos, independents and moderates from both parties. A Biden campaign spokesperson said the democracy message is central to the campaign but it is not the only one the campaign will use to reach voters. Getting Black voters engaged is going to take more from Biden, she believes, because so far his campaign messages have not resonated. But Lopez thinks messages of fear and Trump imperiling American democracy are essentially meaningless for many of the county's working class voters.

Almost a year after the sudden death of Alynda Segarra’s father, the sight of a Bronx-bound subway entrance made the musician cry. “I walked by the 1 train yesterday, and the color of the red and the ‘1’ and the ‘Van Cortlandt Park’ and the ‘Uptown’ — I just burst into tears,” Segarra, who uses they/them pronouns, said. “My dad loved enjoying,” Segarra said. “He just didn’t deny himself pleasure. NEW YORK (AP) — Super Bowl Sunday is here — and, as always, there's a vast roster of advertisers ready to vie for fans' attention during game breaks. Airing a Super Bowl commercial is no easy feat. “This Super Bowl is a blast from the past. She added that “everything old is new again,” with successful Super Bowl ads or messages from the past making more returns this year. New York CNN —Women watch the Super Bowl, too, right? In a bigger shift, several longtime Super Bowl advertisers, like M&M’S, have spots featuring women who, for a change, aren’t just sipping soda in tight pants. It was just after 4 p.m. on a recent weekday, and Oscar Goodman, the mob lawyer turned Las Vegas mayor turned civic cheerleader, was sipping perhaps his first Hizzoner of the day. The drink — made with Bombay Sapphire gin, more Bombay Sapphire gin and a slice of jalapeño pepper, served in a large martini glass — is not just Mr. Goodman’s favorite social lubricant. It’s a homage to a faded version of Las Vegas that he has spent decades celebrating and trying to keep alive. Mr. Goodman, 84, has no trouble dishing out bare-knuckle opinions about everything from graffiti and gambling to prostitution and the homeless situation. Mr. Goodman is more than merely an “only in Vegas” relic, however.

Curled on the couch in my daughter Kristil's Parisian apartment, the sound of a key turning jolted me awake. Relief at hearing Kristil's return home turned to anxiety as I recognized the voice of a friend whom I disapproved of. Suddenly, the holidays morphed from a string of cozy celebrations with friends and family into a smorgasbord of plastic toys, plastic packaging, plastic decor, and plastic everything. Despite my best efforts, every holiday season I struggle to keep a stream of unwanted stuff from entering my home. THERE’S NO PARTY I love more than a holiday party. A fabulous frock, a little lippy, something special to sip on. But this year, instead of shots and Champagne towers (which I adore), I’m craving something more relaxed. For a drink that still feels special but also suits nights when I don’t feel like tearing up the dance floor, I can think of nothing more perfect than vermouth. Strangely, it’s taken me years to figure out how to re-create this social ritual at home.

Genetics likely played a large part in his health, an aging expert told Business Insider. Munger was a fan of donuts (in moderation), peanut brittle , and Diet Coke, and he avoided exercise as best he could, he said. "I'm eating this good peanut brittle," he told CNBC during an interview in February 2023. Munger favored peanut brittle by See's Candy, which is owned by Berkshire Hathaway. A Chinese coffee chain called Luckin Coffee recently overtook Starbucks in China, beating the international coffee chain in sales in the second quarter of 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday. Founded in Beijing in 2017, Luckin Coffee has staged a dramatic turn-around. I had watched the movie so many times. When I was in college, I’d come home for Thanksgiving break and flip on Jodie Foster’s “Home for the Holidays” while sipping a peppermint mocha. Maybe he’ll take to the Charlie Brown holiday specials this year. Or maybe he’ll continue to worship “The Polar Express,” turning the pages of the hardcover book in his lap as he watches the snowy scenes unfold. Images like this burn into my memory more than any still, scene or set from a movie.

“It’s a mishegas,” Whitney Siegel (Emma Stone), a convert to Judaism, says to her husband, Asher Siegel (Nathan Fielder), as they do a good deed for a needy family. “Mitzvah,” Asher corrects her. “Mishegas means something else.” (It means, roughly, “craziness” in Yiddish.) “The Curse,” which has its streaming premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime Friday and its on-air premiere on Showtime Sunday, is also something else — several things else. Above all, “The Curse” is an unnerving, erratic, dizzyingly original exploration of the fine line between mitzvah and mishegas.
