CNN —Comedian and activist Eddie Izzard has announced on social media that she is hoping to stand as a member of parliament at the UK’s next general election. Izzard has long been a public supporter and member of the Labour Party, alongside her decades-long career in film and television. She is best known for her appearances in the “Ocean’s 11” films and NBC’s “Hannibal” series, in addition to her stand-up comedy work. Last year, she reached the shortlist to be nominated as the Labour candidate for the northern English constituency of Sheffield Central but ultimately lost out to Abtisam Mohamed. On her website, Izzard said that, if elected, she would increase funding and resources for schools, promote eco-friendly transportation, work to secure more funding in housing infrastructure, champion mental health services and build stronger ties between law enforcement and local communities.

Environmental groups expect next week's meeting of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica, to rule out any immediate permission for mining to begin. Mining companies say the ocean floor is potentially rich in metals like nickel and cobalt used in batteries for electric vehicles, so their extraction will support the global energy transition. Any permitting delay will hurt the prospects of Canada's The Metals Company (TMC.O) (TMC), which has led efforts to exploit seabed minerals in the Pacific. TMC says that while deep-sea mining will have some ecological impact, it would be less damaging than land-based extraction. "The fact is no one has ever mined the sea floor in any major commercial capacity," said Victor Vescovo, an investor and deep-sea explorer who will attend the meeting.

CNN —LeBron James continues paving the way for his post-basketball media career, this time by producing a superstar origin story adapted from his book, “Shooting Stars,” about how his hoops heroism came with an assist from a close-knit group of friends. Directed by Chris Robinson, the story is adapted from the book by James and “Friday Night Lights” author Buzz Bissinger, and previously served as the basis for the documentary “More Than a Game.”Sian Cotton, Romeo Travis, Dru Joyce III, Willie McGee, Coach Dru Joyce II and LeBron James, the real-life inspiration for "Shooting Stars." Rob Lowe ’s hair is as monumental as his character’s ego in the eight-episode “Unstable,” which has a perversely magical secret: Its people would be obnoxious if they weren’t so charming. It’s “Seinfeldian” in a sense, self-absorption being the defining comic quality of most of the characters, who have no intention of changing. But “Unstable” is not a show about nothing: Ellis Dragon (Mr. Lowe), an incorrigibly eccentric chem-tech billionaire who has developed a biodegradable alternative to plastic, is relentlessly judgmental, flamboyantly narcissistic and has an insistent cheer that masks the fact he’s mourning his wife of 30 years. His son, Jackson ( John Owen Lowe ), despite being the child of a nut who guilts him relentlessly (and who has just lost his mother), is extraordinarily normal, perhaps the most normal-seeming character who has ever inhabited a sitcom. But no: Ellis’s second-in-command, Anna Bennet (the epic Sian Clifford of “Fleabag”), wouldn’t allow it, though she’s kept awfully busy wrangling Ellis into a state of productivity.
