This summer, she and Taylor Swift seemed to prove it. Some estimates suggest that Beyoncé’s world tour could gross even more than that by the time it wraps in October. Taylor Swift and Beyoncé fans have been shelling out on everything from secondhand tickets that cost more than a flight to Europe to fancy fingernails to match the singers’ wardrobe. Beyoncé’s shows are expected to spur $4.5 billion in spending, based on a separate QuestionPro survey. Both the hotel and its neighbors reported surging demand that pushed up room rates and sold out many properties.

Like many of her contemporaries, Varo fled Europe as war bore down on the continent, arriving in Mexico in 1941. It took more than a decade for her to exhibit her work there, but when she did, she left her mark. Alchemy and artistryDuring her life in Mexico City, Varo bonded with fellow artist Carrington and photographer Kati Horna. You see that on the surface of her work, with story and material coming together into one unified composition.

RIGHT IN the heart of Jerusalem’s Old City lies the centuries-old Suq El-Attarine, or spice merchants’ market. Whether you head there by descending the stairs past Damascus Gate or navigating the labyrinth of stone-lined alleyways from the Holy Sepulchre, the aroma of this narrow marketplace is inescapable. Through domes punctuated with apertures for light and ventilation, the sun often dances upon the vivid goods on display. At first glance, the spice heaps shimmer like a collection of precious gemstones, an analogy that isn’t far from historical reality. Once, spices were indeed worth more than gold.

I use Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser and Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Hyaluronic Serum and The Good C Serum. She has a personal line of products called Katalaya Skin Care; right now I’m using her Rejuvenating Moisturizer. When I want to make it look like I’ve slept well, I’ll mix my foundation in with my moisturizer for light coverage. I love the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation because it looks like skin and it doesn’t take much for it to seamlessly blend. I’m somebody who takes excess blush and puts it on my eyes, so right now I’m using Dior Rouge Blush in Grand Bal.

The northern and southern lights, which are usually confined to the Arctic and Antarctica, have generated awe and wonder for centuries. The northern lights were visible over St. Mary's lighthouse in Whitley Bay, England on Monday. The southern lights glowed over Lake Ellesmere on the outskirts of Christchurch, New Zealand on Monday. Over the next few years, the northern lights might appear further south more regularly, said Robert Massey, executive director at the Royal Astronomical Society. A National Weather Service employee took a photo of the northern lights in Maine on Sunday.
Loren McManus has spent months sewing costumes for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. The outfits are bejeweled, sparkly and can make a stadium shimmer—but they’re not for the stage. Taylor mania means a boom time for tailors. Swifties are going all out, paying hundreds of dollars to have fashion designers create custom looks to wear to Ms. Swift’s first tour in five years. Most want copies of designer dresses the superstar has worn on red carpets or in music videos.
Earthy, muted shades are becoming increasingly popular among car buyers, according to the LA Times. The muted cars are suddenly popping up everywhere, lining freeways and parking lots in unassuming shades of gray, black, brown, tan, and green. "The term 'stealth' comes to mind when we see a car in matte gray or matte black. Derek Joyce, a spokesman for Hyundai Motor North America, told the Los Angeles Times that the muted shades of its Hyundai Santa Cruz model are outselling more traditional hues. The styles are also picking up steam on TikTok, where users are sharing videos of their matte cars, or of transforming old models using the new trendy paints.
BANG BO, Thailand—When the buses stopped coming in early 2020, it wasn’t long before businesses began dropping like flies. Then the hot-pot place let its lease expire. Now, this cluster of three-star hotels near Thailand’s main international airport is coming back to life as China reopens its borders. Neatly uniformed staff at Chor Cher, a resort that catered almost exclusively to Chinese tourists, come to work daily even though all of its 389 rooms are still empty. The walls shimmer with a fresh coat of paint and new furniture is in place.

Y Combinator alum Shimmer raised $1.3 in funding from VCs like Honeystone Ventures and Koa Labs. The startup provides ADHD coaching for adults. The adult ADHD space is much smaller, with medication-focused startups like Cerebral and Done receiving regulatory scrutiny for over-prescribing controlled medication like Adderall and putting patients at risk. At Shimmer, Wang says the focus on coaching, as opposed to medication, is a better long-term solution for many people managing ADHD. Here's a look at the 15-slide pitch deck Shimmer used to raise its seed round.
Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers about “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” season finale. CNN —“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has ended its first season, with plans for several more to come. Yet the real battle for Amazon could be convincing everyone that its very expensive – and mostly underwhelming – gamble on J.R.R. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was personally involved in acquiring rights from the Tolkien estate way back in 2017, reflecting the company’s high-stakes bet. It’s become popular to refer to certain large corporations as being “Too big to fail,” and in TV terms, “Rings of Power” is about as big as they come.
