An Arizona grand jury that indicted 18 allies of former President Donald Trump on criminal charges related to trying to overturn his 2020 election loss in the state was interested in indicting Trump as well, but was asked not to do so by the state attorney general's office, according to a new court filing. Attorney General Kristin Mayes' office disclosed the grand jury's interest in charging Trump in a filing that disputed a claim by many of the defendants that the office was politically biased in prosecuting them in the so-called fake electors case. "The State Grand Jury was told by the Attorney General's Office on multiple occasions that it had the discretion to indict no one," the office wrote. CNN —Members of the grand jury in Arizona that indicted 18 allies of Donald Trump earlier this year for their alleged roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election had also expressed interest in charging the former president, according to a new court filing. The interest was strong enough that it prompted the state’s lead prosecutor to request that the grand jury not indict the former president and give a PowerPoint presentation to explain his reasoning. Prosecutors cited two primary reasons for why the grand jury should not charge Trump: a lack of evidence and a US Justice Department policy they believe would hamper charges against a former president. The policy cited by prosecutors deals with DOJ guidelines limiting how the federal government can prosecute individuals already charged with similar crimes at the state level. A 5-year-old boy died when a bounce house full of children went airborne and crashed down onto a baseball field in Maryland on Friday, authorities said. The 5-year-old, from the town of La Plata, was airlifted by a state police helicopter to a children’s hospital and later pronounced dead, the county said. The gust of wind carried it over a wall and onto the field, the station reported. Witnesses said the bounce house had been secured by stakes hammered into the ground, according to the station. La Plata is a town of about 10,000, around 70 miles southwest of Baltimore.

A New York bankruptcy judge on Friday approved a deal that would dismiss Rudy Giuliani’s attempt to secure bankruptcy protections, putting two former election workers he repeatedly defamed after the 2020 race closer to collecting on their $146 million verdict against him. Lane’s order gives Giuliani one business day after the ruling to pay the $100,000, at which point the case will be officially dismissed. Lane said in July he would dismiss the bankruptcy case, citing Giuliani's failure to turn over virtually any necessary information about his businesses, while submitting incomplete or incorrect information about his personal spending. A spokesman for Giuliani said at the time that Giuliani wanted the case done with because it was preventing him from appealing the Freeman verdict and subjecting him to "voluminous and overly broad discovery requests." The spokesman, Ted Goodman, did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday night, nor did attorneys for Freeman and Moss.

CNN —Rudy Giuliani is no longer entitled to bankruptcy protection, a judge decided Friday, making it possible for creditors to immediately pursue his assets within days. Judge Sean Lane of the federal bankruptcy court in New York made the decision partly because of Giuliani’s lack of transparency after he filed for bankruptcy more than six months ago. The worth of those other assets is unclear, as creditors accuse Giuliani of downplaying or not disclosing complete estimates of the value of what he owns. The creditors believe one World Series ring alone would sell for nearly $30,000, according to court filings in his bankruptcy case. Giuliani agreed to end his bankruptcy proceedings, after Freeman and Moss suggested that approach earlier this week.

Patrol cars used by the New York Police Department will soon bear a new motto, news that made me raise an eyebrow. Three important words — “Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect” — have been on the side of patrol cars since 1996, when this New York City kid was just 9 years old.
