London CNN —Pearl Jam has canceled its scheduled concert at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday because of “illness in the band,” it announced on Friday. Due to existing schedule commitments, the American rock band added that it would not be able to reschedule the concert and would refund all the tickets purchased. “There was simply no other option based on our current health and also having to avoid further damage,” it added. “We couldn’t be more disappointed to not play one of our favorite cities this tour,” the band said, adding that it was “deeply grateful” for the support of its fans. It is currently touring Europe, the United States and Australia in support of its latest album “Dark Matter” and is next scheduled to perform in Berlin on Tuesday.

They think that the Fed may curtail its quantitative tightening (QT) program — that’s the selling off of its assets to decrease money supply and increase interest rates — by as much as half. Those purchases ended up pushing down interest rates in certain parts of the economy, like housing and auto sales. That led to a “repo crisis”, where the interest rates for overnight loans between banks spiked unusually high. That’s because a taper should send bond prices higher, and interest rates lower.

The US Department of Justice is expected to recommend that marijuana be rescheduled as a Schedule III controlled substance, a classification shared by prescription drugs such as ketamine and Tylenol with codeine. The standard rulemaking process is lengthy, is subject to a public comment period, and could take months to complete. However, rescheduling marijuana will not solve that federal-state conflict, the Congressional Research Service noted in a January 16 brief. States with medical marijuana programs do currently have some federal protections in place via appropriations legislation that restricts the Justice Department from interfering in those programs. ☆ Senegal parliament to debate extending president’s mandate as protests break out

Reuters —Senegalese police on Sunday cracked down on protests against the postponement of the presidential election, as parliament prepared to debate a bill that would reschedule the vote for August and extend President Macky Sall’s mandate. “It (AU) strongly encourages all political and social forces to resolve any political dispute through civilized consultation, understanding and dialogue..,” the statement added. Senegal has never delayed a presidential vote and uncertainty about what happens next threatens to fuel further unrest like the deadly protests of recent years that have tarnished its reputation as one of West Africa’s most stable democracies. In one area, around 200 people retreated into side streets after police in riot gear fired tear gas and started detaining protesters. Further protests are planned outside parliament on Monday.
